< Psalms 6 >
1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments, according to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, neither chasten me in your hot displeasure.
2 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am frail; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are in agony.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?
My soul is also sore vexed: but you, O LORD, how long?
4 Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.
Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for your mercies' sake.
5 For there is no mention of You in death; who can praise You from Sheol? (Sheol )
For in death there is no remembrance of you: in the grave who shall give you thanks? (Sheol )
6 I am weary from groaning; all night I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 My eyes fail from grief; they grow dim because of all my foes.
Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxs old because of all mine enemies.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
The LORD has heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.
Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
