< Psalms 48 >

1 A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, His holy mountain.
Psalmus Cantici filiis Core secunda sabbati. Magnus Dominus, et laudabilis nimis in civitate Dei nostri, in monte sancto eius.
2 Beautiful in loftiness, the joy of all the earth, like the peaks of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the great King.
Fundatur exultatione universæ terræ mons Sion, latera Aquilonis, civitas Regis magni.
3 God is in her citadels; He has shown Himself to be a fortress.
Deus in domibus eius cognoscetur, cum suscipiet eam.
4 For behold, the kings assembled; they all advanced together.
Quoniam ecce reges terræ congregati sunt: convenerunt in unum.
5 They saw and were astounded; they fled in terror.
Ipsi videntes sic admirati sunt, conturbati sunt, commoti sunt:
6 Trembling seized them there, anguish like a woman in labor.
tremor apprehendit eos. Ibi dolores ut parturientis,
7 With a wind from the east You wrecked the ships of Tarshish.
in spiritu vehementi conteres naves Tharsis.
8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of Hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish her forever.
Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri: Deus fundavit eam in æternum.
9 Within Your temple, O God, we contemplate Your loving devotion.
Suscepimus Deus misericordiam tuam, in medio templi tui.
10 Your name, O God, like Your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness.
Secundum nomen tuum Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terræ: iustitia plena est dextera tua.
11 Mount Zion is glad, the daughters of Judah rejoice, on account of Your judgments.
Lætetur mons Sion, et exultent filiæ Iudæ, propter iudicia tua Domine.
12 March around Zion, encircle her, count her towers,
Circumdate Sion, et complectimini eam: narrate in turribus eius.
13 consider her ramparts, tour her citadels, that you may tell the next generation.
Ponite corda vestra in virtute eius: et distribuite domos eius, ut enarretis in progenie altera.
14 For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death.
Quoniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in æternum, et in sæculum sæculi: ipse reget nos in sæcula.
