< Proverbs 5 >
1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom; incline your ear to my insight,
Yaa ilma ko, ogummaa koo qalbeeffadhu; hubannaa kootiif illee gurra kenni;
2 that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.
kunis akka ati hubannaa turfattee arrabni kees beekumsa kuufattuuf.
3 Though the lips of the forbidden woman drip honey and her speech is smoother than oil,
Hidhiin ejjituu damma coccobsa; haasaan ishee zayitii caalaa lallaafa;
4 in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a double-edged sword.
dhuma irratti garuu isheen akkuma hadhooftuu hadhoofti; akkuma goraadee afaan lamaas qara qabeettii dha.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to Sheol. (Sheol )
Miilli ishee gara duʼaatti gad buʼa; tarkaanfiin ishee awwaalatti nama geessa. (Sheol )
6 She does not consider the path of life; she does not know that her ways are unstable.
Isheen waaʼee karaa jireenyaa dhimma hin qabdu; daandiin ishee jalʼaa dha; isheen garuu kana hin beektu.
7 So now, my sons, listen to me, and do not turn aside from the words of my mouth.
Egaa yaa ilmaan ko, mee na dhagaʼaa; waan ani jedhu irraa gara kamitti iyyuu hin gorinaa.
8 Keep your path far from her; do not go near the door of her house,
Karaa keessan ishee irraa fageeffadhaa; balbala mana isheetti hin dhiʼaatinaa;
9 lest you concede your vigor to others, and your years to one who is cruel;
kunis akka ati ulfina kee nama biraatiif, umurii kees nama namaaf hin naaneef hin kennineef;
10 lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich the house of a foreigner.
akkasumas qabeenya kee ormatu nyaata; dadhabbiin kees mana alagaa badhaasa.
11 At the end of your life you will groan when your flesh and your body are spent,
Dhuma jireenya keetiitti, yeroo foonii fi dhagni kee dhumutti ati ni aadda.
12 and you will say, “How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!
Atis akkana jetta; “Ani akkamittin adabamuu jibbee! Garaan koos akkam sirreeffamuu tuffate!
13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ear to my mentors.
Ani barsiistota kootiif hin ajajamne yookaan qajeelchitoota koo hin dhaggeeffanne.
14 I am on the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly.”
Ani waldaa guutuu gidduutti qarqara badiisaa gaʼeen ture.”
15 Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well.
Eela kee keessaa bishaan, boolla bishaanii kee keessaa immoo bishaan qulqulluu dhugi.
16 Why should your springs flow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares?
Burqaan kee guutee daandii irra, bishaan kee kan yaaʼus oobdii keessa dhangalaʼuu qabaa?
17 Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers.
Isaan kan kee haa taʼan; ormi si wajjin qooddachuu hin qabu.
18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth:
Burqaan kee haa eebbifamu; niitii dargaggummaa keetiitti gammadi.
19 A loving doe, a graceful fawn— may her breasts satisfy you always; may you be captivated by her love forever.
Isheen miidhagduu akka borofaa, bareedduu akka gadamsaa ti; harmi ishee yeroo hunda sitti haa tolu; yeroo hunda jaalalli ishee si haa boojiʼu.
20 Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress, or embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Yaa ilma ko, ati maaliif ejjituudhaan boojiʼamta? Maaliif bobaa niitii nama biraa hammatta?
21 For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and the LORD examines all his paths.
Karaan namaa guutumaan guutuutti fuula Waaqayyoo dura jiraatii; innis daandii namaa hunda ni toʼata.
22 The iniquities of a wicked man entrap him; the cords of his sin entangle him.
Balleessaan nama hamaa isuma qabaata; funyoon cubbuu isaa jabeessee isa qaba.
23 He dies for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.
Inni sababii adabamuu dhabeef duʼa; guddinni gowwummaa isaas karaa irraa isa balleessa.
