< Proverbs 31 >
1 These are the words of King Lemuel—the burden that his mother taught him:
Jecha Lemuuʼeel mootichaa kan haati isaa isa barsiifte:
2 What shall I say, O my son? What, O son of my womb? What, O son of my vows?
“Maali yaa ilma ko, maali yaa ilma gadameessa ko, maali yaa ilma wareega ko,
3 Do not spend your strength on women or your vigor on those who ruin kings.
humna kee dubartoota irratti, jabina kee warra mootota balleessan irratti hin fixin.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to crave strong drink,
“Yaa Lemuuʼeel, wanni kun moototaaf hin malu; daadhii wayinii dhuguun moototaaf hin malu; dhugaatii cimaatti gaggabuunis bulchitootaaf hin malu;
5 lest they drink and forget what is decreed, depriving all the oppressed of justice.
kunis akka isaan dhuganii waan seerri jedhu dagatanii warra hacuucaman hunda mirga isaanii hin dhowwanneef.
6 Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to the bitter in soul.
Warra baduuf jiraniif dhugaatii cimaa, warra jireenyi itti hadhaaʼeef daadhii wayinii kenni;
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
isaan dhuganii hiyyummaa isaanii haa irraanfatan; rakkina isaaniis deebiʼanii hin yaadatin.
8 Open your mouth for those with no voice, for the cause of all the dispossessed.
“Warra ofii isaaniitiif dubbachuu hin dandeenyeef, mirga warra gatamaniitiifis falmi.
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the poor and needy.
Afaan kee banadhu; murtii qajeelaas kenni; mirga hiyyeeyyiitii fi rakkattootaatiif falmi.”
10 A wife of noble character, who can find? She is far more precious than rubies.
Niitii amala gaarii qabdu eenyutu argachuu dandaʼa? Isheen lula diimaa caalaa gati qabeettii dha.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he lacks nothing of value.
Dhirsi ishee guddisee ishee amanata; inni waan faayidaa qabu tokko illee hin dhabu.
12 She brings him good and not harm all the days of her life.
Isheen bara jireenya ishee guutuu waan gaarii isaaf fiddi malee isa hin miitu.
13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
Isheen suufii fi quncee talbaa barbaaddee harka ishee kan hojii jaallatuun footi.
14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
Isheen akkuma doonii daldalaatti lafa fagoodhaa nyaata ishee fidatti.
15 She rises while it is still night to provide food for her household and portions for her maidservants.
Isheen utuu lafti hin bariʼin hirribaa kaatee maatii isheetiif nyaata kenniti; xomboreewwan isheefis hojii qooddi.
16 She appraises a field and buys it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Isheen lafa qotiisaa hubattee ilaaltee bitti; waan hojjettee argattu keessaa wayinii dhaabdi.
17 She girds herself with strength and shows that her arms are strong.
Isheen jabinaan mudhii ishee hidhattee hojiidhaaf irree ishee jabeeffatti.
18 She sees that her gain is good, and her lamp is not extinguished at night.
Isheen akka daldalli ishee buʼaa qabu hubatti; ibsaan ishees halkaniin hin dhaamu.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
Mukni itti jirbii maran harka ishee keessa jira; quba isheetiin immoo calii qabatti.
20 She opens her arms to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.
Isheen hiyyeessaaf harka hiixatti; dhabaadhaaf illee harka balʼifti.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household, for they are all clothed in scarlet.
Yoo cabbiin buʼe illee isheen maatii isheetiif hin yaaddoftu; isaan hundinuu uffata bildiimaa uffataniiruutii.
22 She makes coverings for her bed; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Isheen wayyaa siree dhaʼatti; uffata dhiilgee quncee talbaa haphii irraa hojjetames uffatti.
23 Her husband is known at the city gate, where he sits among the elders of the land.
Dhirsi ishee yommuu karra magaalaa dura, jaarsolii biyyaa gidduu taaʼu ni kabajama.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchants.
Isheen wayyaa quncee talbaa dhooftee gurgurti; daldaltootaafis sabbata dhiʼeessiti.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the days to come.
Isheen jabinaa fi ulfina uffatti; bara dhufaa jiruttis kolfuu dandeessi.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
Afaan ishee ogummaadhaan banatti; gorsi gara laafinaas arraba ishee irra jira.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Isheen mana ishee toʼatti; isheen buddeena dhibaaʼummaas hin nyaattu.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband praises her as well:
Ijoolleen ishee kaʼanii, eebbifamtuu jedhuun; dhirsi ishees akkasuma jedhaan; akkana jedhees ishee jaja:
29 “Many daughters have done noble things, but you surpass them all!”
“Dubartoonni hedduun waan gaarii hojjetu; ati garuu isaan hunda caalta.”
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Simboon nama gowwoomsa; miidhaginnis ni darba; dubartiin Waaqayyoon sodaattu garuu galateeffamtuu dha.
31 Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her at the gates.
Buʼaa harka ishee kennaafii; hojiin ishee karra magaalaa duratti ishee haa jaju.
