< Proverbs 27 >
1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Ati waaʼee boriitiin hin boonin; waan guyyaan fidu hin beektuutii.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth— a stranger, and not your own lips.
Namni biraa si haa jaju malee ati afaan keetiin of hin jajin; namni kaan si haa jajuu malee hidhiin kee si hin jajin.
3 A stone is heavy and sand is a burden, but aggravation from a fool outweighs them both.
Dhagaan ni ulfaata; cirrachis baʼaa dha; tuttuqaan gowwaa garuu lachuu caalaa ulfaata.
4 Wrath is cruel and anger is like a flood, but who can withstand jealousy?
Dheekkamsi gara jabeessa; aariinis guutee dhangalaʼa; hinaaffaa dura garuu eenyutu dhaabachuu dandaʼa?
5 Better an open rebuke than love that is concealed.
Jaalala dhokfamee mannaa ifannaa ifatti baʼe wayya.
6 The wounds of a friend are faithful, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Madaan michuun nama madeessu amanamaa dha; dhungachuun diinaa garuu gowwoomsaa dha.
7 The soul that is full loathes honey, but to a hungry soul, any bitter thing is sweet.
Namni quufe damma illee ni balfa; kan beelaʼe garuu wanni hadhaaʼu iyyuu itti miʼaawa.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who wanders from his home.
Namni mana isaatii badu tokko, akkuma simbirroo manʼee isheetii badduu ti.
9 Oil and incense bring joy to the heart, and the sweetness of a friend is counsel to the soul.
Shittoo fi ixaanni garaa nama gammachiisu; gorsi michuus garaa nama ciibsa.
10 Do not forsake your friend or your father’s friend, and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity; better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
Michoota keetii fi michoota abbaa keetii hin gatin; yoo balaan sitti dhufe mana obboleessa keetii hin dhaqin; obboleessa fagoo jiru irra ollaa dhiʼoo jiru wayya.
11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, so that I can answer him who taunts me.
Yaa ilma ko, ogeessa taʼiitii garaa koo gammachiisi; ergasii ani nama na tuffatu hundaaf deebii kennuu nan dandaʼa.
12 The prudent see danger and take cover; but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Namni hubataan balaa argee jalaa dhokata; wallaalaan immoo ittuma deemee adabama.
13 Take the garment of him who posts security for a stranger; get collateral if it is for a foreigner.
Nama nama ormaatiif wabii taʼe irraa uffata isaa fudhadhu; yoo inni dubartii ormaatiif wabii taʼes uffata sana qabdii qabadhu.
14 If one blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be counted to him as a curse.
Namni tokko ganamaan sagalee ol fudhatee ollaa isaa yoo eebbise wanni sun akka abaarsaatti fudhatama.
15 A constant dripping on a rainy day and a contentious woman are alike—
Niitiin nyakkiftuun, akkuma bokkaa guyyaa roobaa dhimmisaa ooluu ti;
16 restraining her is like holding back the wind or grasping oil with one’s right hand.
ishee ittisuun akkuma bubbee ittisuu ti yookaan akkuma zayitii harkaan qabuu ti.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Akkuma sibiilli sibiila qaru, namni tokko nama kaan qara.
18 Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored.
Namni muka harbuu eeggatu tokko ija isaa nyaata; namni gooftaa isaa eeggatus ulfina argata.
19 As water reflects the face, so the heart reflects the true man.
Akkuma bishaan fuula namaa argisiisu sana garaan nama tokkoo eenyummaa namichaa argisiisa.
20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol )
Duʼaa fi Badiisni gonkumaa hin quufan; iji namaas akkasuma. (Sheol )
21 A crucible for silver and a furnace for gold, but a man is tested by the praise accorded him.
Okkoteen waa itti baqsan meetiif; boolli ibiddaa immoo warqeef; namni immoo ulfina argatuun qorama.
22 Though you grind a fool like grain with mortar and a pestle, yet his folly will not depart from him.
Gowwaa mooyyee keessatti yoo tumte iyyuu, akkuma midhaaniitti muka mooyyeetiin isa bulleessite iyyuu, ati gowwummaa isa irraa hin balleessitu.
23 Be sure to know the state of your flocks, and pay close attention to your herds;
Haala bushaayeen kee keessa jiran sirriitti beeki; loon keetiifis xiyyeeffannaa kenni;
24 for riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to every generation.
soorumni bara baraan itti hin fufuutii; gonfoonis dhaloota irraa dhalootatti hin darbu.
25 When hay is removed and new growth appears and the grain from the hills is gathered,
Yeroo okaan haamamee biqilaa haaraan jalaan biqilee margi tulluu irraa walitti qabamutti,
26 the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field.
xobbaallaawwaniin daara baata; reʼoonni immoo gatii lafa qotiisaa siif taʼu.
27 You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed you— food for your household and nourishment for your maidservants.
Ati ofii keetii fi maatii kee, xomboreewwan kees ittiin jiraachisuuf aannan reʼootaa baayʼee ni qabaatta.
