Proverbs 23
1 When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is set before you,
൧നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്തെന്ന് കരുതിക്കൊള്ളുക.
2 and put a knife to your throat if you possess a great appetite.
൨നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയൻ ആകുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടയ്ക്ക് ഒരു കത്തി വച്ചുകൊള്ളുക.
3 Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.
൩അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങൾ കൊതിക്കരുത്; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമത്രേ.
4 Do not wear yourself out to get rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself.
൪ധനവാനാകേണ്ടതിന് ബദ്ധപ്പെടരുത്; അതിനായുള്ള ബുദ്ധി വിട്ടുകളയുക.
5 When you glance at wealth, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and flies like an eagle to the sky.
൫നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേൽ പതിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന്? അത് ഇല്ലാതെയായിപ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകൻ ആകാശത്തേക്ക് എന്നപോലെ അത് ചിറകെടുത്ത് പറന്നുകളയും.
6 Do not eat the bread of a stingy man, and do not crave his delicacies;
൬കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുത്; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുകയുമരുത്.
7 for he is keeping track, inwardly counting the cost. “Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
൭അവൻ തന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ കണക്ക് കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; ‘തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്ളുക’ എന്ന് അവൻ നിന്നോട് പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്ക് അനുകൂലമല്ല.
8 You will vomit up what little you have eaten and waste your pleasant words.
൮നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛർദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്ക് നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.
9 Do not speak to a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.
൯ഭോഷൻ കേൾക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുത്; അവൻ നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനം നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.
10 Do not move an ancient boundary stone or encroach on the fields of the fatherless,
൧൦പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര് നീക്കരുത്; അനാഥരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കുകയുമരുത്.
11 for their Redeemer is strong; He will take up their case against you.
൧൧അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകൻ ബലവാനല്ലയോ; അവർക്ക് നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവിടുന്ന് നടത്തും.
12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.
൧൨നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിനും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങൾക്കും സമർപ്പിക്കുക.
13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; although you strike him with a rod, he will not die.
൧൩ബാലന് ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുത്; വടികൊണ്ട് അടിച്ചാൽ അവൻ ചത്തുപോകുകയില്ല.
൧൪വടികൊണ്ട് അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തിൽനിന്ന് വിടുവിക്കും. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if your heart is wise, my own heart will indeed rejoice.
൧൫മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനം പഠിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.
16 My inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.
൧൬നിന്റെ അധരം നേര് സംസാരിച്ചാൽ എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങൾ ആനന്ദിക്കും.
17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always continue in the fear of the LORD.
൧൭നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോട് അസൂയപ്പെടരുത്; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്കുക.
18 For surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
൧൮ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശക്ക് ഭംഗം വരുകയുമില്ല.
19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart on the right course.
൧൯മകനേ, കേട്ട് ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്കുക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേർവഴിയിൽ നടത്തിക്കൊള്ളുക.
20 Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat.
൨൦നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുത്.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe them in rags.
൨൧കുടിയനും അമിതഭോജകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; ആലസ്യം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.
22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
൨൨നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്ക് കേൾക്കുക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുത്.
23 Invest in truth and never sell it— in wisdom and instruction and understanding.
൨൩നീ സത്യം വില്ക്കുകയല്ല വാങ്ങുകയാണ് വേണ്ടത്; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ.
24 The father of a righteous man will greatly rejoice, and he who fathers a wise son will delight in him.
൨൪നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പൻ ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകൻ അവനിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കും.
25 May your father and mother be glad, and may she who gave you birth rejoice!
൨൫നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവൾ ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.
26 My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes delight in my ways.
൨൬മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്ക് തരുക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന് ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.
27 For a prostitute is a deep pit, and an adulteress is a narrow well.
൨൭വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.
28 Like a robber she lies in wait and multiplies the faithless among men.
൨൮അവൾ പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരിൽ അവിശ്വസ്തരെ വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has needless wounds? Who has bloodshot eyes?
൨൯ആർക്ക് കഷ്ടം, ആർക്ക് സങ്കടം, ആർക്ക് കലഹം? ആർക്ക് ആവലാതി, ആർക്ക് അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകൾ, ആർക്ക് കൺചുവപ്പ്?
30 Those who linger over wine, who go to taste mixed drinks.
൩൦വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവർക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്നവർക്കും തന്നെ.
31 Do not gaze at wine while it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.
൩൧വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്ന് പാത്രത്തിൽ തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുത്.
32 In the end it bites like a snake and stings like a viper.
൩൨ഒടുവിൽ അത് സർപ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.
33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will utter perversities.
൩൩നിന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas or lying on the top of a mast:
൩൪നീ നടുക്കടലിൽ ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളിൽ ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.
35 “They struck me, but I feel no pain! They beat me, but I did not know it! When can I wake up to search for another drink?”
൩൫“അവർ എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്ക് നൊന്തില്ല; അവർ എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാൻ അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാൻ എപ്പോൾ ഉണരും? ഞാൻ ഇനിയും അത് തന്നെ തേടും” എന്ന് നീ പറയും.
