< Proverbs 12 >

1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
Mũndũ ũrĩa wothe wendete ũtaaro nĩendete ũmenyi, no ũrĩa ũthũire gũkaanio nĩ mũndũ mũkĩĩgu.
2 The good man obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a man who devises evil.
Mũndũ ũrĩa mwega nĩatugagwo nĩ Jehova, no mũndũ mwara Jehova amũtuaga mũndũ mwĩhia.
3 A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.
Mũndũ ndangĩhota kwĩhaanda na maũndũ ma waganu, no ũrĩa mũthingu ndangĩenyenyeka.
4 A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but she who causes shame is like decay in his bones.
Mũtumia ũrĩa ngatha nĩwe thũmbĩ ya mũthuuri wake, no mũtumia ũconorithagia mũthuuri wake atariĩ ta ũbuthu mahĩndĩ-inĩ make.
5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the counsel of the wicked leads to deceit.
Mĩbango ya andũ arĩa athingu nĩ ya kĩhooto, no ũtaaro wa andũ arĩa aaganu nĩ wa maheeni.
6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
Ndeto cia andũ arĩa aaganu nĩ cia kuohia andũ mamaite thakame, no mĩario ya andũ arĩa arũngĩrĩru nĩĩmahonokagia.
7 The wicked are overthrown and perish, but the house of the righteous will stand.
Andũ aaganu mangʼaũranagio magathira biũ, no nyũmba ya mũndũ ũrĩa mũthingu ĩtũũraga ĩrĩ nũmu.
8 A man is praised according to his wisdom, but a twisted mind is despised.
Mũndũ agaathagĩrĩrio kũringana na ũũgĩ wake, no andũ marĩ meciiria mogomu nĩmamenagwo.
9 Better to be lightly esteemed yet have a servant, than to be self-important but lack food.
Kaba mũndũ ũrĩa wonagwo ta atarĩ bata no nĩ arĩ ndungata, gũkĩra ũrĩa wĩtuaga atĩ nĩ mũndũ wa bata, na ndarĩ gĩa kũrĩa.
10 A righteous man regards the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are only cruelty.
Mũndũ mũthingu nĩamenyagĩrĩra muoyo wa nyamũ yake, no maũndũ marĩa ma tha ma ũrĩa mwaganu nĩ ma kũnyariirana.
11 The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases fantasies lacks judgment.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũrĩmaga mũgũnda wake nĩarĩkoragwo na irio nyingĩ, no ũrĩa ũhanyũkanagia na maũndũ ma tũhũ nĩagĩte gũkũũrana maũndũ.
12 The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.
Arĩa aaganu meriragĩria indo iria itahĩtwo nĩ andũ arĩa ooru, no mĩri ya arĩa athingu nĩĩgaacagĩra.
13 An evil man is trapped by his rebellious speech, but a righteous man escapes from trouble.
Mũndũ mũũru ategagwo nĩ mĩario ya wĩhia wake, no mũndũ mũthingu nĩahonokaga kuuma thĩĩna-inĩ.
14 By fruitful speech a man is filled with good things, and the work of his hands returns to him.
Mũndũ nĩaiyũragwo nĩ maciaro mega ma kanua gake, ti-itherũ, o ta ũrĩa agunagwo nĩ wĩra wa moko make.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to counsel.
Njĩra ya mũndũ mũkĩĩgu yonekaga yagĩrĩire harĩ we, no mũndũ mũũgĩ nĩathikagĩrĩria mataaro.
16 A fool’s anger is known at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.
Mũndũ mũkĩĩgu onanagia marakara make o rĩmwe, no mũndũ mũbaarĩrĩri aarumwo ndatindanagĩrĩra.
17 He who speaks the truth declares what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit.
Mũira wa ma arutaga o ũira wa ma, no mũira ũtarĩ wa ma aaragia maheeni.
18 Speaking rashly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Ciugo iteciirĩtio itheecaga ta rũhiũ rwa njora, no rũrĩmĩ rwa mũndũ ũrĩa mũũgĩ nĩkũhonia rũhonagia.
19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
Mĩromo ĩrĩa yaragia ma ĩtũũraga nginya tene, no rũrĩmĩ rwa maheeni nĩ rwa kahinda o kanini.
20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who devise evil, but the counselors of peace have joy.
Ngoro cia arĩa mathugundaga gwĩka ũũru ciyũrĩtwo nĩ maheeni, no gĩkeno nĩ kĩa andũ arĩa matũmaga thayũ ũgaacĩre.
21 No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble.
Gũtirĩ ũũru ũngĩkora andũ arĩa athingu, no arĩa aaganu maiyũrĩtwo nĩ thĩĩna.
22 Lying lips are detestable to the LORD, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.
Mĩromo ĩrĩa ĩheenanagia nĩ kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi harĩ Jehova, no nĩakenagio nĩ andũ arĩa maaragia ma.
23 A shrewd man keeps his knowledge to himself, but a foolish heart proclaims its folly.
Mũndũ mũbaarĩrĩri nĩahithaga ũmenyi wake, no ngoro cia andũ arĩa akĩĩgu ĩmemerekagia ũrimũ.
24 The hand of the diligent will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.
Moko ma mũndũ ũrĩ kĩyo nĩmo magaathana, no kĩgũũta gĩkaarutithio wĩra wa ũkombo.
25 Anxiety weighs down the heart of a man, but a good word cheers it up.
Ũritũ wa ngoro nĩũhatagĩrĩria mũndũ, no ciugo njega nĩitũmaga akene.
26 A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.
Mũndũ mũthingu nĩataaraga arata ake, no njĩra ya arĩa aaganu nĩ kũmahĩtithia ĩmahĩtithagia.
27 A lazy man does not roast his game, but a diligent man prizes his possession.
Mũndũ kĩgũũta o na ndahĩhagia nyama cia ũguĩmi wake, no mũndũ ũrĩ kĩyo onaga indo ciake irĩ cia goro.
28 There is life in the path of righteousness, but another path leads to death.
Muoyo wonekaga na njĩra ya ũthingu; na njĩra-inĩ ĩyo-rĩ, kũrĩ muoyo ũtagaathira.
