< Proverbs 10 >
1 The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother.
Mwana mũũgĩ atũmaga ithe akene, no mwana mũkĩĩgu atũũragia nyina na kĩeha.
2 Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing, but righteousness brings deliverance from death.
Mĩthiithũ yumanĩte na ungumania ndĩrĩ kĩguni, no ũthingu ũkũũraga mũndũ kuuma kũrĩ gĩkuũ.
3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but He denies the craving of the wicked.
Jehova ndarekagĩrĩria mũndũ mũthingu ahũte, no nĩamarigagĩrĩria merirĩria ma mũndũ mwaganu.
4 Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Moko ma kĩgũũta matũmaga mũndũ athĩĩne, no moko ma mũndũ ũrĩ kĩyo marehaga ũtonga.
5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
Ũrĩa ũcookanagĩrĩria irio hĩndĩ ya riũa nĩ mwana mũũgĩ, no ũrĩa ũkomaga hĩndĩ ya magetha nĩ mwana wa kũrehe thoni.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Mũtwe wa mũndũ mũthingu ũikaraga ũhumbĩrĩtwo nĩ irathimo, no kanua ka mũndũ mwaganu kaiyũraga ngũĩ.
7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
Kĩririkano kĩa mũndũ mũthingu gĩgatuĩka kĩrathimo, no rĩĩtwa rĩa mũndũ mwaganu nĩrĩkabutha.
8 A wise heart will receive commandments, but foolish lips will come to ruin.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũrĩ na ũũgĩ wa ngoro nĩetĩkagĩra mawatho, no mũndũ wa kũhũhũtĩka nĩakanangĩka.
9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
Mũndũ wa mĩthiĩre mĩrũngĩrĩru athiiaga ategwĩtigĩra ũgwati, no mũndũ ũrĩa ũrĩ mĩthiĩre mĩogomu nĩakamenyeka.
10 He who winks the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will come to ruin.
Mũndũ ũrĩa uunagĩra ũngĩ riitho na rũnano nĩarehage kĩeha, na mwaria mũkĩĩgu nĩakanangĩka.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Kanua ka mũndũ mũthingu nĩ gĩthima kĩa muoyo, no kanua ka mũndũ mwaganu kaiyũraga ngũĩ.
12 Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers all transgressions.
Rũmena rũrehaga nyamũkano, no wendani ũhumbagĩra ũũru wothe.
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment.
Ũũgĩ ũkoragwo mĩromo-inĩ ya mũndũ ũrĩa mũkũũrani maũndũ, no mũndũ ũrĩa ũtooĩ gũkũũrana maũndũ aagĩrĩirwo nĩ rũthanju ciande-inĩ ciake.
14 The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of the fool invites destruction.
Andũ oogĩ meigagĩra ũmenyo, no kanua ga kĩrimũ keĩtagĩria mwanangĩko.
15 The wealth of the rich man is his fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
Indo cia itonga nĩ gĩtũũro kĩao kĩirigĩre na hinya, no ũkĩa nĩguo mwanangĩko wa andũ arĩa athĩĩni.
16 The labor of the righteous leads to life, but the gain of the wicked brings punishment.
Mũcaara wa andũ arĩa athingu ũmarehagĩra muoyo, no indo iria cionagwo nĩ andũ arĩa aaganu imarehagĩra iherithia.
17 Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who ignores reproof goes astray.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũiguaga agĩtaarwo arĩ njĩra-inĩ ya muoyo, no mũndũ ũrĩa ũregaga kũrũithio-rĩ, nĩahĩtithagia andũ arĩa angĩ.
18 The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũhithaga rũmena rwake aaragia na mĩromo ya maheeni, na ũrĩa wothe ũcambanagia nĩ mũndũ mũkĩĩgu.
19 When words are many, sin is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
Rĩrĩa ciugo ciaingĩha mehia matiagaga, no mũndũ ũrĩa ũkiraga nĩ mũũgĩ.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked has little worth.
Rũrĩmĩ rwa mũndũ mũthingu nĩ betha njega, no ngoro ya mũndũ mwaganu ndĩrĩ bata.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of judgment.
Mĩromo ya arĩa athingu ĩhũnagia andũ aingĩ, no andũ akĩĩgu makuaga nĩ kwaga gũkũũrana maũndũ.
22 The blessing of the LORD enriches, and He adds no sorrow to it.
Kĩrathimo kĩa Jehova nĩkĩo kĩrehaga ũtonga, na ndarĩ kĩeha onganagĩrĩria nakĩo.
23 The fool delights in shameful conduct, but a man of understanding has wisdom.
Mũndũ mũkĩĩgu akenagĩra mĩtugo mĩũru, no mũndũ ũrĩ na ũtaũku akenagĩra ũũgĩ.
24 What the wicked man dreads will overtake him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
Kĩrĩa mũndũ mwaganu etigagĩra nĩkĩo gĩkaamũkora, na kĩrĩa mũndũ mũthingu eriragĩria nĩkĩo akaaheo.
25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure forever.
Kĩhuhũkanio kĩahĩtũka andũ arĩa aaganu maticookaga kuoneka, no andũ arĩa athingu mehaandaga wega nginya tene.
26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the slacker to those who send him.
Ta ũrĩa thiki ĩgagatagĩra magego, na ndogo ĩkarũrĩra maitho-rĩ, noguo kĩgũũta kĩhaana kũrĩ arĩa magĩtũmaga.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be cut short.
Gwĩtigĩra Jehova-rĩ, kuongagĩrĩra mũndũ matukũ ma gũtũũra muoyo, no mĩaka ya mũndũ mwaganu nĩkũnyiihio ĩnyiihagio.
28 The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectations of the wicked will perish.
Itanya rĩa mũndũ mũthingu nĩ gĩkeno, no kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro kĩa mũndũ mwaganu no gĩa tũhũ.
29 The way of the LORD is a refuge to the upright, but destruction awaits those who do evil.
Njĩra ya Jehova nĩ rĩũrĩro rĩa andũ arĩa athingu, no nĩ mwanangĩko harĩ arĩa mekaga ũũru.
30 The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not inhabit the land.
Mũndũ ũrĩa mũthingu ndarĩ hĩndĩ akaamunywo, no ũrĩa mwaganu ndagatũũra thĩinĩ wa bũrũri.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
Kanua ka mũndũ ũrĩa mũthingu karehaga ũũgĩ, no rũrĩmĩ rwa ũtũrĩka nĩrũkaniinwo.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
Mĩromo ya mũndũ mũthingu nĩyũũĩ kwaria ndeto iria ciagĩrĩire, no kanua ka ũrĩa mwaganu kaaragia o rũtũrĩko.
