< Numbers 31 >
1 And the LORD said to Moses,
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, ʻo pehē,
2 “Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”
“Totongi ki he kau Mitiane koeʻuhi ko e fānau ʻa ʻIsileli: pea hili ia ʻe tānaki ko e ki ho kakai.”
3 So Moses told the people, “Arm some of your men for war, that they may go against the Midianites and execute the LORD’s vengeance on them.
Pea naʻe lea ʻa Mōsese ki he kakai, ʻo pehē, “Teu ʻa homou niʻihi ki he tau, pea tuku ʻakinautolu ke nau ō ki he kau Mitiane, ke totongi ʻa Sihova ki Mitiane.
4 Send into battle a thousand men from each tribe of Israel.”
Ko e toko afe ʻi he faʻahinga taki taha ke mou fekau ki he tau ʻi he faʻahinga kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli.”
5 So a thousand men were recruited from each tribe of Israel—twelve thousand armed for war.
Pea ko ia naʻe tukuange ai ʻi he ngaahi toko afe ʻo ʻIsileli ʻae toko afe mei he faʻahinga taki taha kotoa pē, ko e tokotaha mano ma toko ua afe kuo toʻo mahafu ke tau.
6 And Moses sent the thousand from each tribe into battle, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, who took with him the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
Pea naʻe fekau ʻakinautolu ʻe Mōsese ki he tau, ʻo tautau toko afe mei he faʻahinga taki taha, ʻakinautolu mo Finiasi ko e foha ʻo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, ki he tau, mo e ngaahi meʻa toputapu, pea mo e ngaahi meʻalea ʻi hono nima ke ifi ʻaki.
7 Then they waged war against Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed every male.
Pea naʻa nau tau ki he kau Mitiane, ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese; pea naʻa nau teʻia ʻae kakai tangata fulipē.
8 Among the slain were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
Pea naʻa nau teʻia ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Mitiane kaeʻumaʻā ʻae kakai kehe naʻe teʻia; ʻaia ko Ivi, mo Lekimi, mo Sua, mo Hua, mo Lepa, ko e ngaahi tuʻi ʻe toko nima ʻo Mitiane: pea naʻa nau taaʻi foki ʻa Pelami ko e foha ʻo Peoli ʻaki ʻae heletā.
9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and their children, and they plundered all their herds, flocks, and goods.
Pea naʻe taki pōpula ʻe he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻae kau fefine kotoa pē ʻo Mitiane, mo ʻenau fānau iiki, pea naʻa nau maʻu ʻenau fanga manu kotoa pē, mo ʻenau fanga sipi kotoa pē, mo ʻenau koloa kotoa pē.
10 Then they burned all the cities where the Midianites had lived, as well as all their encampments,
Pea naʻa nau tutu ʻenau ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻaia naʻa nau nofo ai, pea mo honau ngaahi fale māʻolunga lelei ʻaki ʻae afi.
11 and carried away all the plunder and spoils, both people and animals.
Pea naʻa nau ʻave ʻae koloa kotoa pē, mo e koloa veteki kotoa pē, ʻae kau tangata mo e fanga manu.
12 They brought the captives, spoils, and plunder to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of Israel at the camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.
Pea naʻa nau ʻomi ʻae kau pōpula, pea mo e koloa vete, mo e koloa, kia Mōsese, mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, pea mo e kakai ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ki he ʻapitanga ʻi he ngaahi toafa ʻo Moape, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi Sioatani [ʻo ofi ]ki Seliko.
13 And Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the congregation went to meet them outside the camp.
Pea naʻe ʻalu atu ʻa Mōsese, mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, mo e houʻeiki kotoa pē ʻoe kakai, kenau fetaulaki mo kinautolu ki he tuʻa ʻapitanga.
14 But Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who were returning from the battle.
Pea naʻe tuputāmaki ʻa Mōsese ki he houʻeiki ʻoe kautau, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko afe, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko teau, ʻakinautolu naʻe foki mai mei he tau.
15 “Have you spared all the women?” he asked them.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Mōsese kiate kinautolu, “Kuo mou fakamoʻui ʻae kau fefine kenau moʻui kotoa pē?
16 “Look, these women caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to turn unfaithfully against the LORD at Peor, so that the plague struck the congregation of the LORD.
Vakai mai, ko kinautolu eni naʻa nau fakaangahalaʻi ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻi he akonaki ʻa Pelami, ke fai meʻa kovi kia Sihova ʻi he meʻa ʻa Peoli, pea naʻe hoko ai ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha ki he kakai ʻa Sihova.
17 So now, kill all the boys, as well as every woman who has had relations with a man,
Pea ko eni, tāmateʻi ʻae kakai tangata kotoa pē ʻo aʻu ki he tamaiki iiki, pea tāmateʻi ʻae fefine kotoa pē kuo ne ʻilo ʻae tangata ʻi heʻena takoto mo ia.
18 but spare for yourselves every girl who has never had relations with a man.
Ka ko e tamaiki fefine, ʻoku ʻikai tenau ʻilo ha tangata ke takoto mo ia, ke fakamoʻui maʻamoutolu.
19 All of you who have killed a person or touched the dead are to remain outside the camp for seven days. On the third day and the seventh day you are to purify both yourselves and your captives.
Pea te mou nofo ki he tuʻa ʻapitanga ʻi he ʻaho ʻe fitu; ko ia kuo ne tāmateʻi ha taha, pea mo ia kuo ala ki he mate, fakamaʻa ʻakimoutolu mo homou kau pōpula ʻi hono ʻaho tolu, pea mo hono ʻaho fitu.
20 And purify every garment and leather good, everything made of goat’s hair, and every article of wood.”
Pea fakamaʻa homou ngaahi kofu kotoa pē, pea mo ia kotoa pē ʻoku ngaohi ʻaki ʻae kiliʻi manu, pea mo e ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē ʻoe fulufulu ʻoe kosi, pea mo e ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ngaohi ʻaki ʻae ʻakau.”
21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses:
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki ki he kau tangata tau naʻa nau ō ki he tau. “Ko e talatuku eni ʻi he fono ʻaia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova kia Mōsese;
22 Only the gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, and lead—
Ko e koula, pea mo e siliva, mo e palasa, mo e ukamea, mo e tini, pea mo e pulu,
23 everything that can withstand the fire—must be put through the fire, and it will be clean. But it must still be purified with the water of purification. And everything that cannot withstand the fire must pass through the water.
Ko e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ne kātaki ʻae afi te mou ʻave ia ki he afi, pea ʻe maʻa ai ia: ka ʻe fakamaʻa ia ʻaki ʻae vai ʻoe fakamavahe: pea mo ia kotoa pē ʻe ʻikai kātaki ʻae afi, te mou ʻave ia ki he vai.
24 On the seventh day you are to wash your clothes, and you will be clean. After that you may enter the camp.”
Pea te mou fō homou ngaahi kofu ʻi hono fitu ʻoe ʻaho, pea te mou maʻa ai, pea ka hili ia, te mou ʻomi ki he ʻapitanga.”
25 The LORD said to Moses,
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese, ʻo pehē,
26 “You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the congregation are to take a count of what was captured, both of man and beast.
“Ke ke lau ʻae koloa ʻaia naʻe maʻu, ʻae tangata mo e manu, ʻe koe, mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, pea mo e kau mātuʻa ʻae kakai.
27 Then divide the captives between the troops who went out to battle and the rest of the congregation.
Pea vaeua ʻae koloa ko e ʻinasi ʻe ua ko e taha kiate kinautolu naʻa nau fai ʻae tau, ʻakinautolu naʻe ʻalu atu ke tau, pea ko e taha ki he kakai kotoa pē.
28 Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, or sheep.
Pea te ke fekau ke ʻomi ʻae tukuhau kia Sihova ʻe he kau tangata tau, ʻakinautolu naʻe ʻalu atu ke tau: ko e tokotaha mei he toko nimangeau ʻi he kakai, mo e fanga pulu, mo e fanga ʻasi, mo e fanga sipi:
29 Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as an offering to the LORD.
Ke ʻomi ia mei honau ʻinasi, ʻo foaki ia kia ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki ko e feilaulau hiki hake kia Sihova.
30 From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep, or other animals, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”
Pea te ke toʻo mei he ʻinasi ʻoe fānau kotoa pē ʻa ʻIsileli ko e tokotaha ʻi he toko nimangofulu ʻi he kakai, mo e fanga pulu, mo e fanga ʻasi, mo e fanga kosi, mo e faʻahinga manu kotoa pē, pea ʻatu ia ki he kau Livai ʻaia ʻoku tauhi ʻae ngāue ʻoe fale fehikitaki ʻo Sihova.”
31 So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD had commanded Moses,
Pea naʻe fai ʻe Mōsese, mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese.
32 and this plunder remained from the spoils the soldiers had taken: 675,000 sheep,
Pea ko e koloa, ʻi hono toe ʻoe meʻa vete naʻe maʻu ʻe he kau tangata tau, ko e fanga sipi ʻe ono kilu mā fitu mano mo e nima afe,
Mo e fanga pulu ʻe fitu mano mo e ua afe,
Mo e fanga ʻasi ʻe ono mano mo e taha afe,
35 and 32,000 women who had not slept with a man.
Pea ko e kau fefine ko e kau tāupoʻou kotoa pē, ʻe toko tolu mano ma toko ua afe, naʻe ʻikai tenau ʻilo ha tangata ke takoto mo ia.
36 This was the half portion for those who had gone to war: 337,500 sheep,
Pea ko hono vahe ua ko e ʻinasi ʻokinautolu naʻe ʻalu atu ke tau, ko hono lau ko e fanga sipi ʻe tolu kilu mo e tolu mano mo e fitu afe ma nimangeau.
37 including a tribute to the LORD of 675,
Pea ko e tukuhau kia Sihova mei he fanga sipi, naʻe onongeau ma fitungofulu ma nima.
38 36,000 cattle, including a tribute to the LORD of 72,
Pea ko e fanga pulu naʻe tolu mano ma ono afe, ka ko e tukuhau mei ai kia Sihova ko e fitungofulu ma ua.
39 30,500 donkeys, including a tribute to the LORD of 61,
Pea naʻe tolu mano ma nimangeau ʻae fanga ʻasi, ka ko e tukuhau mei ai kia Sihova ko e onongofulu ma taha.
40 and 16,000 people, including a tribute to the LORD of 32.
Pea naʻe tokotaha mano ma toko ono afe ʻae kakai; ka ko e kakai tukuhau mei ai kia Sihova ko e toko tolungofulu ma toko ua.
41 Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as an offering for the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Pea naʻe ʻange ʻe Mōsese ʻae tukuhau, ʻaia ko e feilaulau hiki hake kia Sihova, kia ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻa Sihova kia Mōsese.
42 From the Israelites’ half, which Moses had set apart from the men who had gone to war,
Pea ko hono vahe ua ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻaia naʻe vaeua ʻe Mōsese mei he kau tangata tau,
43 this half belonged to the congregation: 337,500 sheep,
(Ko hono vahe ua eni naʻe ʻi he kakai, ko e fanga sipi ʻe tolu kilu mo e tolu mano mo e fitu afe ma nimangeau,
Mo e fanga pulu ʻe tolu mano ma ono afe,
Mo e fanga ʻasi ʻe tolu mano ma nimangeau,
Pea mo e kakai ʻe tokotaha mano ma toko ono afe);
47 From the Israelites’ half, Moses took one out of every fifty persons and animals and gave them to the Levites who kept charge of the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD had commanded him.
Pea naʻe toʻo ʻe Mōsese ʻae ʻinasi ʻe taha ʻi he nimangofulu, mei hono vahe ua ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻi he tangata mo e manu, ʻo ne ʻange ia ki he kau Livai, ʻakinautolu naʻe ʻi ai ʻae tauhi ʻoe fale fehikitaki ʻo Sihova; ʻo hangē ko ia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova kia Mōsese.
48 Then the officers who were over the units of the army—the commanders of thousands and of hundreds—approached Moses
Pea ko e houʻeiki naʻe pule ki he ngaahi toko afe ʻoe kautau, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko afe, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko teau, naʻa nau ʻunuʻunu mai ʻo ofi kia Mōsese:
49 and said, “Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one of us is missing.
Pea naʻa nau pehē kia Mōsese, “Kuo fai ʻe hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki ʻae lau ʻoe kakai tau ʻakinautolu ʻoku mau pule ki ai, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha tangata kuo tō ʻiate kimautolu.
50 So we have brought to the LORD an offering of the gold articles each man acquired—armlets, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.”
Ko ia kuo mau ʻomi ai ʻae feilaulau kia Sihova, ʻi he meʻa kuo taki taha maʻu ʻe he tangata, ko e ngaahi teunga koula, mo e ngaahi kahoa, mo e ngaahi vesa, mo e ngaahi mama, mo e ngaahi hau ki he telinga, mo e ngaahi sifa, ke fai ʻaki ʻae fakalelei koeʻuhi ko homau laumālie ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.”
51 So Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them all the articles made out of gold.
Pea naʻe maʻu ʻe Mōsese mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻae koula meiate kinautolu, ʻio ʻae ngaahi teunga kuo ngaohi.
52 All the gold that the commanders of thousands and of hundreds presented as an offering to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.
Pea ko e koula kotoa pē ʻoe feilaulau naʻa nau hiki hake ia kia Sihova, mei he ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko afe, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko teau, ko e [sikeli ]ʻe taha mano mo e ono afe mo e fitungeau ma nimangofulu.
53 Each of the soldiers had taken plunder for himself.
(He naʻe taki taha maʻu ʻe he kau tangata tau ʻae koloa maʻana.)
54 And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the Tent of Meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
Pea naʻe maʻu ʻe Mōsese mo ʻEliesa ko e taulaʻeiki ʻae koula mei he ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko afe, mo e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻoe ngaahi toko teau, ʻo na ʻomi ia ki he fale fehikitaki ʻoe kakai, ko e meʻa fakamanatu ia ki he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.
