< Numbers 23 >
1 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Build for me seven altars here, and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams.”
Balaʼaamis Baalaaqiin, “Iddoo aarsaa torba asitti naaf ijaari; amma illee korommii loonii torbaa fi korbeeyyii hoolaa torba naa qopheessi” jedhe.
2 So Balak did as Balaam had instructed, and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Baalaaqis akkuma Balaʼaam jedhe sana godhe; isaan lamaan tokkoo tokkoo iddoo aarsaa irratti korma looniitii fi korbeessa hoolaa tokko tokko aarsaa dhiʼeessan.
3 “Stay here by your burnt offering while I am gone,” Balaam said to Balak. “Perhaps the LORD will meet with me. And whatever He reveals to me, I will tell you.” So Balaam went off to a barren height,
Ergasii Balaʼaam Baalaaqiin akkana jedhe; “Ani xinnoo achi sirraa nan siqa; ati immoo asuma aarsaa kee bira turi. Tarii Waaqayyo anaa wajjin wal arguuf ni dhufa taʼa. Waan inni natti mulʼisu kam iyyuu ani sittin hima.” Innis gara gaara tokkoo dhaqe.
4 and God met with him. “I have set up seven altars,” Balaam said, “and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram.”
Waaqayyo isaan wal arginaan Balaʼaam, “Ani iddoo aarsaa torba qopheessee tokkoo tokkoo isaa irratti korma loonii tokkoo fi korbeessa hoolaa tokko qopheesseera” jedhe.
5 Then the LORD put a message in Balaam’s mouth, saying, “Return to Balak and give him this message.”
Waaqayyo ergaa tokko afaan Balaʼaam keessa kaaʼee, “Baalaaqitti deebiʼiitii ergaa kana itti himi” jedheen.
6 So he returned to Balak, who was standing there beside his burnt offering, with all the princes of Moab.
Balaʼaam Baalaaqitti deebiʼee isaa qondaaltota Moʼaab wajjin aarsaa isaa bira dhaabatu arge.
7 And Balaam lifted up an oracle, saying: “Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the mountains of the east. ‘Come,’ he said, ‘put a curse on Jacob for me; come and denounce Israel!’
Balaʼaam ergaa isaa akkana jedhee dubbate: “Baalaaq Arraam irraa, mootichi Moʼaab gaarran baʼaa irraa na fide. Innis, ‘Kottuutii Yaaqoobin naa abaari; kottuutii Israaʼelin naa balaaleffadhu’ jedhe.
8 How can I curse what God has not cursed? How can I denounce what the LORD has not denounced?
Ani akkamittan warra Waaqni hin abaarin abaaruu dandaʼa? Ani akkamittan warra Waaqayyo hin balaaleffatin balaaleffachuu dandaʼa?
9 For I see them from atop the rocky cliffs, and I watch them from the hills. Behold, a people dwelling apart, not reckoning themselves among the nations.
Fiixee gaarranii irraa ani isa nan arga; tulluuwwan irraas isa nan ilaala. Saba kophaa isaa jiraatu, kan saba kaan keessatti of hin lakkoofne nan arga.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even a fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous; let my end be like theirs!”
Eenyutu awwaara Yaaqoob lakkaaʼuu dandaʼa? Eenyutu Israaʼel keessaa kurmaana isaa illee lakkaaʼa? Ani duʼa nama qajeelaa haa duʼu; dhumni koos akkuma dhuma isaa haa taʼu!”
11 Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you here to curse my enemies, and behold, you have only blessed them!”
Baalaaqis Balaʼaamiin, “Wanni ati na goote kun maali? Ani akka ati diina koo naa abaartuufin si fide; ati kunoo isaan eebbifte malee waan tokko iyyuu isaan hin goone!” jedhe.
12 But Balaam replied, “Should I not speak exactly what the LORD puts in my mouth?”
Innis, “Ani waan Waaqayyo afaan koo keessa kaaʼu hin dubbadhuu?” jedhee deebii kenneef.
13 Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the outskirts of their camp—not all of them. And from there, curse them for me.”
Baalaaq, “Mee gara lafa itti isaan arguu dandeessu biraa na wajjin kottu; ati gara tokko qofa malee hunduma isaanii arguu hin dandeessu. Achiis isaan naa abaari” jedheen.
14 So Balak took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, where he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Inni gara dirree Xoofiim kan fiixee Phisgaa irratti argamuutti isa geesse; achittis iddoo aarsaa torba ijaaree tokkoo tokkoo iddoo aarsaa sanaa irratti korma loonii tokkoo fi korbeessa hoolaa tokko aarsaa dhiʼeesse.
15 Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here beside your burnt offering while I meet the LORD over there.”
Balaʼaamis Baalaaqiin, “Ati hamma ani achi siqee Waaqa wajjin wal argutti asuma aarsaa kee bira turi” jedhe.
16 And the LORD met with Balaam and put a message in his mouth, saying, “Return to Balak and speak what I tell you.”
Waaqayyo Balaʼaam wajjin wal argee ergaa tokko afaan isaa keessa kaaʼee, “Baalaaqitti deebiʼiitii ergaa kana itti himi” jedheen.
17 So he returned to Balak, who was standing there by his burnt offering with the princes of Moab. “What did the LORD say?” Balak asked.
Balaʼaam Baalaaq bira dhaqee isaa qondaaltota Moʼaab wajjin aarsaa isaa bira dhaabatu arge. Baalaaqis, “Waaqayyo maal jedhe?” jedhee Balaʼaamiin gaafate.
18 Then Balaam lifted up an oracle, saying: “Arise, O Balak, and listen; give ear to me, O son of Zippor.
Balaʼaam akkana jedhee ergaa isaa dubbate: “Yaa Baalaaq, kaʼiitii dhaggeeffadhu; yaa ilma Ziphoori na dhagaʼi.
19 God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?
Waaqni nama miti; inni hin sobu; yookaan gaabbuudhaaf inni ilma namaa miti. Inni waa dubbatee ergasii hin hojjetuu? Inni waa abdachiisee ergasii hin raawwatuu?
20 I have indeed received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot change it.
Kunoo ani eebbisuudhaaf ajaja argadheera; inni eebbiseera; anis geeddaruu hin dandaʼu.
21 He considers no disaster for Jacob; He sees no trouble for Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the shout of the King is among them.
“Inni Yaaqoob keessatti daba hin argine; rakkina tokko illee Israaʼel keessatti hin argine. Waaqayyo Waaqni isaanii isaan wajjin jira; ililleen Mootii isaan wajjin jira.
22 God brought them out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox.
Waaqayyo biyya Gibxiitii isaan baase; inni jabina akka jabina gafarsaa qaba.
23 For there is no spell against Jacob and no divination against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and Israel, ‘What great things God has done!’
Yaaqoob irratti falfalli tokko iyyuu hin hojjetu; Israaʼel irrattis tolchi tokko iyyuu hin hojjetu. Amma Yaaqoobii fi Israaʼeliin, ‘Waan Waaqni hojjete ilaalaa!’ jedhama.
24 Behold, the people rise like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion, not resting until they devour their prey and drink the blood of the slain.”
Kunoo sabni sun akka leenca dhalaatti kaʼa; akkuma leencaattis ol jedha; inni hamma waan adamsate nyaatee fixutti, hamma dhiiga waan ajjeefate sanaa dhuguttis hin ciisu.”
25 Now Balak said to Balaam, “Then neither curse them at all nor bless them at all!”
Baalaaq Balaʼaamiin, “Ati gonkumaa isaan hin abaarin yookaan isaan hin eebbisin” jedhe.
26 But Balaam replied, “Did I not tell you that whatever the LORD says, I must do?”
Balaʼaamis, “Ani akka waan Waaqayyo jedhu kam iyyuu hojjedhu sitti hin himnee?” jedhee Baalaaqiif deebise.
27 “Please come,” said Balak, “I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God that you curse them for me from there.”
Ergasii Baalaaq Balaʼaamiin, “Mee kottu amma illee ani iddoo biraa sin geessaa. Tarii achii jara naaf abaaruun kee Waaqa gammachiisa taʼaatii” jedhe.
28 And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, which overlooks the wasteland.
Baalaaqis Balaʼaamin fiixee tulluu Pheʼoor kan irra dhaabatanii gammoojjii sana gad ilaalanitti ol baase.
29 Then Balaam said, “Build for me seven altars here, and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams.”
Balaʼaamis Baalaaqiin, “Iddoo aarsaa torba asitti naaf ijaari; ammas korommii loonii torbaa fi korbeeyyii hoolaa torba naaf qopheessi” jedhe.
30 So Balak did as Balaam had instructed, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Baalaaqis akkuma Balaʼaam jedheen sana godhe; tokkoo tokkoo iddoo aarsaa irrattis korma loonii tokkoo fi korbeessa hoolaa tokko aarsaa dhiʼeesse.
