Nehemiah 8
1 At that time all the people gathered together in the square before the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel.
Y juntóse todo el pueblo, como un varón, en la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las aguas, y dijeron a Ésdras el escriba, que trajese el libro de la ley de Moisés, la cual mandó Jehová a Israel.
2 On the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could listen and understand.
Y Ésdras el sacerdote trajo la ley delante de la congregación así de varones como de mujeres, y de todo entendido para oír, el primer día del mes séptimo.
3 So Ezra read it aloud from daybreak until noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate, in front of the men and women and those who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
Y leyó en él delante de la plaza, que está delante de la puerta de las aguas, desde el alba hasta el mediodía, delante de varones, y mujeres, y entendidos; y los oídos de todo el pueblo eran al libro de la ley.
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for this occasion. At his right side stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, and at his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hash-baddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Y Ésdras el escriba estaba sobre un púlpito de madera que habían hecho para ello: y estaban junto a él Matatías, y Semeías, y Anías, y Urías, y Helcías, y Maasías, a su mano derecha: y a su mano izquierda Padaias, Misael, y Melquías, y Hasum, y Hasbadana, Zacarías, y Mosollam.
5 Ezra opened the book in full view of all the people, since he was standing above them all, and as he opened it, all the people stood up.
Y abrió Ésdras el libro a ojos de todo el pueblo; (porque estaba sobre todo el pueblo; ) y como él le abrió, todo el pueblo estuvo atento.
6 Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands uplifted, all the people said, “Amen, Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
Y bendijo Ésdras a Jehová Dios grande, y todo el pueblo respondió: Amén, Amén, alzando sus manos: y humilláronse, y adoraron a Jehová inclinados a tierra.
7 The Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah—instructed the people in the Law as they stood in their places.
Y Jesuá, y Bani, y Sarabías, Jamín, Accub, Sebtai, Odías, Maasías, Celita, Azarías, Jozabed, Hanán, Palaías, Levitas, hacían entender al pueblo la ley: y el pueblo estaba en su lugar.
8 So they read from the Book of the Law of God, explaining it and giving insight, so that the people could understand what was being read.
Y leyeron en el libro de la ley de Dios claramente, y pusieron entendimiento, y entendieron la escritura.
9 Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the Law.
Y dijo Nehemías el Tirsata, y Ésdras sacerdote escriba, y los Levitas que hacían atento al pueblo, a todo el pueblo: día santo es a Jehová nuestro Dios, no os entristezcáis ni lloréis: porque todo el pueblo lloraba oyendo las palabras de la ley.
10 Then Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Y díjoles: Id, coméd grosuras, y bebéd dulzaras, y enviád partes a los que no tienen aparejado, porque santo día es a nuestro Señor: y no os entristezcáis; porque el gozo de Jehová es vuestra fortaleza.
11 And the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, since today is holy. Do not grieve.”
Y los Levitas hacían callar a todo el pueblo, diciendo: Callád, que es día santo, y no os entristezcáis.
12 Then all the people began to eat and drink, to send out portions, and to rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that had been made known to them.
Y todo el pueblo se fue a comer y a beber, y a enviar partes, y a alegrarse de grande alegría: porque había entendido las palabras que les habían enseñado.
13 On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and Levites, gathered around Ezra the scribe to study the words of the Law.
Y el día siguiente juntáronse los príncipes de las familias de todo el pueblo, sacerdotes y Levitas, a Ésdras escriba, para entender las palabras de la ley.
14 And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month.
Y hallaron escrito en la ley, que Jehová había mandado por mano de Moisés, que habitasen los hijos de Israel en cabañas en la solemnidad del mes séptimo.
15 So they proclaimed this message and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the hill country and bring back branches of olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written.”
Y que hiciesen oír, y que hiciesen pasar pregón por todas sus ciudades, y por Jerusalem, diciendo: Salíd al monte, y traed ramos de oliva, y ramos de árbol de pino, y ramos de arrayan, y ramos de palmas, y ramos de todo árbol espeso, para hacer cabañas, como está escrito.
16 And the people went out, brought back branches, and made booths on their own rooftops, in their courtyards, in the court of the house of God, and in the squares by the Water Gate and by the Gate of Ephraim.
Y salió el pueblo, y trajeron, e hiciéronse cabañas, cada uno sobre su techumbre, y en sus patios, y en los patios de la casa de Dios, y en la plaza de la puerta de las aguas, y en la plaza de la puerta de Efraím.
17 The whole assembly who had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated like this. And there was great rejoicing.
Y toda la congregación que volvió de la cautividad hicieron cabañas, y habitaron en cabañas: porque desde los días de Josué, hijo de Nun, hasta aquel día no habían hecho así los hijos de Israel: y hubo alegría muy grande.
18 Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. The Israelites kept the feast for seven days, and on the eighth day they held an assembly, according to the ordinance.
Y leyó en el libro de la ley de Dios cada día, desde el primer día hasta el postrero: e hicieron la solemnidad por siete días, y al octavo día congregación, según el rito.
