Matthew 6
1 “Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Gardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes pour être remarqués par eux. Autrement, il n'y a pas pour vous de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
2 So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Quand donc tu feras l'aumône, ne fais pas sonner la trompette devant toi, comme font les hypocrites dans les synagogues et dans les rues, afin d'être honorés des hommes. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont leur récompense.
3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Mais toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ne sache pas ce que fait ta main droite,
4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
afin que ton aumône se fasse en secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te récompensera.
5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Quand vous priez, ne soyez pas comme les hypocrites; car ils aiment à prier en se tenant debout dans les synagogues et aux coins des places, afin d'être vus des hommes. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont leur récompense.
6 But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Mais toi, quand tu pries, entre dans ta chambre; et, après avoir fermé ta porte, prie ton Père qui est là, dans le secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te récompensera.
7 And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.
Lorsque vous priez, n'usez pas de vaines redites, comme font les Païens, qui pensent être exaucés en parlant beaucoup.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Ne leur ressemblez donc pas; car votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin, avant que vous le lui demandiez.
9 So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Vous donc priez ainsi: Notre Père qui es aux cieux. Que ton nom soit sanctifié;
10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Que ton règne vienne; Que ta volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel;
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Donne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien;
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Pardonne-nous nos offenses, comme aussi nous pardonnons à ceux qui nous ont offensés;
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
Ne nous laisse pas succomber à la tentation; mais délivre-nous du mal; [Car c'est à toi qu'appartiennent, dans tous les siècles, le règne, la puissance et la gloire. Amen!]
14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
En effet, si vous pardonnez aux hommes leurs fautes, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi les vôtres.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
Mais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux hommes leurs fautes, votre Père ne vous pardonnera pas non plus vos fautes.
16 When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Quand vous jeûnez, n'ayez pas un air triste, comme les hypocrites; car ils donnent à leur visage un air tout défait, pour montrer aux hommes qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont leur récompense.
17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
Mais toi, quand tu jeûnes, oins ta tête et lave ton visage,
18 so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
afin que les hommes ne voient pas que tu jeûnes, mais seulement ton Père qui est là, dans le secret. Et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te récompensera.
19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Ne vous amassez pas des trésors sur la terre, où les vers et la rouille détruisent, et où les voleurs percent et dérobent;
20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel, où ni les vers ni la rouille ne détruisent, et où les voleurs ne percent ni ne dérobent.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Car où est ton trésor, là aussi sera ton coeur.
22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
L'oeil est la lampe du corps. Si ton oeil est sain, tout ton corps sera dans la lumière;
23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
mais si ton oeil est mauvais, tout ton corps sera dans les ténèbres. Si donc la lumière qui est en toi n'est que ténèbres, combien seront grandes ces ténèbres!
24 No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres; car ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mammon.
25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
C'est pourquoi, je vous dis: Ne soyez point en souci, pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez ou de ce que vous boirez; ni, pour votre corps, du vêtement dont vous le revêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement?
26 Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment, ni ne moissonnent, ils n'amassent rien dans les greniers; et votre Père céleste les nourrit! Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux?
27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
D'ailleurs, qui d'entre vous peut ajouter par son souci une coudée à sa taille?
28 And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.
Et quant au vêtement, pourquoi vous en inquiétez-vous? Laissez-vous instruire par les lis des champs. Voyez comment ils croissent: ils ne travaillent ni ne filent.
29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
Et cependant, je vous dis que Salomon même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux!
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Si Dieu revêt ainsi l'herbe des champs, qui est aujourd'hui et qui demain sera jetée au four, combien plutôt vous vêtira-t-il, ô gens de peu de foi!
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Ne vous mettez donc pas en souci, en disant: Que mangerons-nous? Que boirons-nous? De quoi serons-nous vêtus?
32 For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Car toutes ces choses, ce sont les Païens qui les recherchent. Or, votre Père céleste sait que vous avez besoin de tout cela.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
Cherchez premièrement son royaume et sa justice, et toutes ces choses vous seront données par-dessus.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Ne vous mettez donc pas en souci pour le lendemain; car le lendemain aura soin de ce qui le concerne. A chaque jour suffit sa peine.
