Matthew 26
1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, He told His disciples,
૧ઈસુએ સર્વ વાતો પૂરી કરી ત્યારે એમ થયું કે તેમણે પોતાના શિષ્યોને કહ્યું,
2 “You know that the Passover is two days away, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
૨“તમે જાણો છો બે દિવસ પછી પાસ્ખાપર્વ છે, અને માણસના દીકરાને વધસ્તંભે જડાવા સારુ પરાધીન કરાશે.”
3 At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,
૩પછી મુખ્ય યાજકો તથા લોકોના વડીલો કાયાફા નામે પ્રમુખ યાજકની કચેરીમાં એકત્ર થયા.
4 and they conspired to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him.
૪ઈસુને કપટથી પકડીને મારી નાખવા માટે તેઓએ સંકલ્પ કર્યો.
5 “But not during the feast,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
૫પણ તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, “પર્વમાં નહિ, રખેને લોકોમાં હુલ્લડ થાય.”
6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper,
૬ઈસુ બેથાનિયામાં સિમોન કુષ્ઠ રોગીના ઘરમાં હતા,
7 a woman came to Him with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume, which she poured on His head as He reclined at the table.
૭તેઓ જમવા બેઠા હતા ત્યારે એક સ્ત્રી અતિ મૂલ્યવાન અત્તરની સંગેમરમરની ડબ્બી લઈને તેમની પાસે આવી, અને તેમના માથા ઉપર અત્તર રેડ્યું.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant and asked, “Why this waste?
૮જયારે તેમના શિષ્યોએ તે જોયું ત્યારે તેઓએ ગુસ્સે થઈને કહ્યું કે, “એ બગાડ શા માટે કર્યો?
9 This perfume could have been sold at a high price, and the money given to the poor.”
૯કેમ કે એ અત્તર ઘણે મૂલ્યે વેચાત અને ગરીબોને અપાત.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus asked, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful deed to Me.
૧૦ત્યારે ઈસુએ તે જાણીને તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “એ સ્ત્રીને તમે કેમ સતાવો છો? કેમ કે તેણે તો મારા પ્રત્યે ઉત્તમ કામ કર્યું છે.
11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.
૧૧કેમ કે ગરીબો સદા તમારી સાથે છે, પણ હું સદા તમારી સાથે નથી.
12 By pouring this perfume on Me, she has prepared My body for burial.
૧૨તેણીએ અત્તર મારા શરીર પર રેડ્યું તે કામ તો મારા દફનની તૈયારીને સારુ કર્યું છે.
13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
૧૩હું તમને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે, ‘આ સુવાર્તા આખી દુનિયામાં જ્યાં કહીં પ્રગટ કરાશે ત્યાં એણે જે કર્યું છે તે પણ તેની યાદગીરીને અર્થે કહેવામાં આવશે.”
14 Then one of the Twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
૧૪ત્યારે યહૂદા ઇશ્કારિયોત નામે બાર શિષ્યોમાંના એકે મુખ્ય યાજકોની પાસે જઈને કહ્યું કે,
15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
૧૫“તેને હું તમારે સ્વાધીન કરું તો તમે મને શું આપવા રાજી છો?” તેઓએ તેને ચાંદીના ત્રીસ સિક્કા ચૂકવી આપ્યા.
16 So from then on Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
૧૬ત્યારથી તે ઈસુને પરસ્વાધીન કરવાની તક શોધતો રહ્યો.
17 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
૧૭બેખમીર રોટલીના પર્વને પહેલે દિવસે શિષ્યોએ ઈસુની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું કે, “અમે તમારે માટે પાસ્ખા ખાવાની તૈયારી ક્યાં કરીએ? તમારી શી ઇચ્છા છે?”
18 He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the Passover with My disciples at your house.’”
૧૮ત્યારે ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “નગરમાં ફલાણાની પાસે જઈને તેને કહો, ‘ઉપદેશક કહે છે કે “મારો સમય પાસે આવ્યો છે, હું મારા શિષ્યો સાથે તારે ઘેર પાસ્ખા પાળીશ.’”
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
૧૯ઈસુએ શિષ્યોને જેવી આજ્ઞા આપી હતી, તેવું તેઓએ કર્યું અને પાસ્ખા તૈયાર કર્યું.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining with the twelve disciples.
૨૦સાંજ પડી ત્યારે બાર શિષ્યોની સાથે ઈસુ જમવા બેઠા હતા.
21 And while they were eating, He said to them, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray Me.”
૨૧તેઓ જમતા હતા ત્યારે તેમણે કહ્યું કે, “હું તમને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે, તમારામાંથી એક મને પરસ્વાધીન કરશે.”
22 They were deeply grieved and began to ask Him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?”
૨૨ત્યારે તેઓ ઘણાં દુઃખી થયા અને તેઓમાંનો દરેક તેમને કહેવા લાગ્યો કે, “પ્રભુ, શું તે હું છું?”
23 Jesus answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with Me will betray Me.
૨૩ઈસુએ ઉત્તર દેતાં કહ્યું કે, “જેણે મારી સાથે થાળીમાં હાથ મૂક્યો છે તે જ મને પરાધીન કરશે.
24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed. It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
૨૪માણસના દીકરા સંબંધી જેમ લખેલું છે તેમ તે જાય છે ખરો; પણ જે માણસથી માણસનો દીકરો પરાધીન કરાય છે, તેને અફસોસ છે! જો તે માણસ જન્મ્યો ન હોત, તો તેને માટે વધારે સારું હોત.”
25 Then Judas, who would betray Him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said it yourself.”
૨૫ત્યારે તેને પરસ્વાધીન કરનાર યહૂદાએ પૂછ્યું કે, “ગુરુજી, શું તે હું છું?” ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તેં પોતે જ કહ્યું છે.”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.”
૨૬તેઓ ભોજન કરતા હતા ત્યારે ઈસુએ રોટલી લઈને, આશીર્વાદ માગીને ભાંગી અને શિષ્યોને આપીને કહ્યું કે, “લો, ખાઓ, આ મારું શરીર છે.”
27 Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
૨૭પછી ઈસુએ પ્યાલો લઈને આભાર માન્યો અને તેઓને આપતાં કહ્યું કે, “તમે બધા એમાંથી પીઓ,”
28 This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
૨૮કેમ કે એ નવા કરારનું મારું રક્ત છે, જે પાપોની માફીને અર્થે ઘણાંઓને માટે વહેવડાવવામાં આવે છે.
29 I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
૨૯હું તમને કહું છું કે, હું મારા પિતાના રાજ્યમાં તમારી સાથે નવો દ્રાક્ષારસ નહિ પીઉં, તે દિવસ સુધી હું હવેથી તે પીનાર જ નથી.”
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
૩૦તેઓ ગીત ગાયા પછી જૈતૂનનાં પહાડ પર ગયા.
31 Then Jesus said to them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of Me. For it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
૩૧ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “તમે બધા આજ રાત્રે મારાથી દૂર થઈ જશો, કેમ કે એમ લખેલું છે કે ‘હું ઘેટાંપાળકને મારીશ અને ટોળાંનાં ઘેટાં વિખેરાઈ જશે.’
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
૩૨પણ મારા ઊઠ્યા પછી હું તમારી અગાઉ ગાલીલમાં જઈશ.”
33 Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”
૩૩ત્યારે પિતરે ઉત્તર દેતાં ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, “જો બધા તમને ત્યજી દેશે, તોપણ હું તમારાથી દૂર થઈશ નહિ.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus declared, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
૩૪ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું, “હું તને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે, આજ રાત્રે મરઘો બોલ્યા અગાઉ, ત્રણ વાર તું મારો નકાર કરીશ.”
35 Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
૩૫પિતરે તેને કહ્યું કે, “જો મારે તમારી સાથે મરવું પડે તોપણ હું તમારો નકાર નહિ જ કરીશ.” બધાં શિષ્યોએ પણ તેમ જ કહ્યું.
36 At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
૩૬ત્યારે ઈસુ તેઓની સાથે ગેથસેમાને નામની જગ્યાએ આવ્યા અને શિષ્યોને કહ્યું કે, “હું ત્યાં જઈને પ્રાર્થના કરું ત્યાં સુધી તમે અહીં બેસો.”
37 He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
૩૭પિતરને તથા ઝબદીના બે દીકરાઓને સાથે લઈને ઈસુ પોતે શોકાતુર તથા ઉદાસ થવા લાગ્યા.
38 Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”
૩૮પછી ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “મારો જીવ મરવા જેવો ઘણો દુઃખી છે, તમે અહીં રહીને મારી સાથે જાગતા રહો.”
39 Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
૩૯પછી તેમણે થોડે દૂર જઈને મુખ નમાવીને પ્રાર્થના કરતાં કહ્યું કે, “ઓ મારા પિતા, જો બની શકે તો આ પ્યાલો મારાથી દૂર કરો; તોપણ મારી ઇચ્છા પ્રમાણે નહિ, પણ તમારી ઇચ્છા પ્રમાણે થાઓ.”
40 Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter.
૪૦પછી ઈસુ શિષ્યોની પાસે આવ્યા અને તેઓને ઊંઘતા જોઈને પિતરને કહ્યું કે, “શું તમે એક કલાક પણ મારી સાથે જાગતા રહી નથી શકતા?
41 “Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
૪૧તમે જાગતા રહો અને પ્રાર્થના કરો કે પરીક્ષણમાં ન પડો; આત્મા તત્પર છે ખરો, પણ શરીર નિર્બળ છે.”
42 A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”
૪૨બીજી વાર ઈસુએ જઈને પ્રાર્થના કરતા કહ્યું કે, “ઓ મારા પિતા, જો આ પ્યાલો મારા પીધા વગર મારી પાસેથી દૂર થઈ ન શકે તો તમારી ઇચ્છા પ્રમાણે થાઓ.”
43 And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy.
૪૩ઈસુએ બીજી વાર આવીને તેઓને ઊંઘતા જોયા; કેમ કે તેઓની આંખો ઊંઘથી ભારે થઈ હતી.
44 So He left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing.
૪૪ઈસુ ફરીથી શિષ્યોને મૂકીને પ્રાર્થના કરવા ગયા, અને ત્રીજી વાર એ જ વાત કહેતાં તેમણે પ્રાર્થના કરી.
45 Then He returned to the disciples and said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
૪૫ત્યારે તેમણે પોતાના શિષ્યોની પાસે આવીને તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “હજુ પણ તમે ઊંઘો છો અને આરામ કરો છો? જુઓ, સમય પાસે આવ્યો છે, માણસનો દીકરો પાપીઓના હાથમાં પરાધીન કરાય છે.
46 Rise, let us go! See, My betrayer is approaching!”
૪૬ઊઠો આપણે જઈએ; જુઓ, મને પકડાવનાર આવી પહોંચ્યો છે.”
47 While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
૪૭તે હજી બોલતા હતા, એટલામાં જુઓ, બાર શિષ્યમાંનો એક, એટલે યહૂદા, આવ્યો; તેની સાથે મુખ્ય યાજકોની તથા લોકોના વડીલોની પાસેથી ઘણાં લોક તલવારો તથા લાકડીઓ લઈને આવ્યા.
48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him.”
૪૮હવે તેમને પરાધીન કરનારે તેઓને નિશાની આપી હતી કે, “હું જેને ચુંબન કરું તે જ તે છે; તેને પકડી લેજો.”
49 Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
૪૯તરત તેણે ઈસુ પાસે આવીને કહ્યું, ‘ગુરુજી સલામ!’ અને તે તેમને ચૂમ્યો.
50 “Friend,” Jesus replied, “do what you came for.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus, and arrested Him.
૫૦ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “મિત્ર, જે કરવાને તું આવ્યો છે તે કર.” ત્યારે તેઓએ પાસે આવીને, ઈસુ પર હાથ નાખીને, તેમની ધરપકડ કરી.
51 At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
૫૧પછી જુઓ, ઈસુના સાથીઓમાંના એકે હાથ લાંબો કરીને પોતાની તલવાર ખેંચી કાઢી અને પ્રમુખ યાજકના ચાકર પર હુમલો કરીને તેનો કાન કાપી નાખ્યો.
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
૫૨ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તારી તલવાર મ્યાનમાં પાછી મૂક; કેમ કે જેઓ તલવાર પકડે છે તેઓ તલવારથી જ નાશ પામશે.
53 Are you not aware that I can call on My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?
૫૩શું તું ધારે છે કે હું પિતાની પાસે એવું નથી માગી શકતો કે તે હમણાં જ સૈન્યના બાર જૂથો કરતાં વધારે સ્વર્ગદૂતોને મારી પાસે મોકલી દે?
54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”
૫૪તો શાસ્ત્રવચનોમાં જે લખેલું છે કે, એવું થવું જોઈએ, તે કેમ પૂરું થશે?”
55 At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw? Every day I sat teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest Me.
૫૫તે જ સમયે ઈસુએ લોકોને કહ્યું કે, “તમે તલવારો તથા લાકડીઓ લઈને જેમ ચોરને પકડો તેમ મને પકડવા નીકળી આવ્યા છો શું? હું રોજ ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં બેસીને બોધ કરતો હતો; ત્યારે તમે મને પકડ્યો ન હતો.
56 But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.
૫૬પણ પ્રબોધકોના લેખો પૂર્ણ થાય માટે આ બધું થયું છે.” ત્યારે બધા શિષ્યો ઈસુને મૂકીને જતા રહ્યા.
57 Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered.
૫૭પછી જેઓએ ઈસુને પકડ્યા, તેઓ જ્યાં શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા વડીલો એકઠા થયા હતા ત્યાં કાયાફા પ્રમુખ યાજકની પાસે તેમને લઈ ગયા.
58 But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. And he went in and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.
૫૮પિતર દૂરથી તેમની પાછળ પ્રમુખ યાજકની આંગણા સુધી ચાલ્યો અને અંદર જઈને ઈસુને શું કરશે તે જોવાને ચોકીદારોની સાથે બેઠો.
59 Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death.
૫૯મુખ્ય યાજકોએ તથા આખી ન્યાયસભાએ, ઈસુને મારી નાખવાને, તેમની વિરુદ્ધ જૂઠી શાહેદી શોધી.
60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward
૬૦જોકે ઘણાં જૂઠા સાક્ષીઓ આવ્યા, પણ તેઓની સાક્ષીઓથી તેઓ સહમત થયા નહિ. પણ પાછળથી બે માણસો આવીને બોલ્યા કે,
61 and declared, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”
૬૧“આ માણસે કહ્યું હતું કે, ‘હું ઈશ્વરના સભાસ્થાનને પાડી નાખવાને તથા ત્રણ દિવસમાં તેને પાછું બાંધવાને સમર્થ છું.’”
62 So the high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men testifying against You?”
૬૨ત્યારે પ્રમુખ યાજકે ઊભા થઈને તેને કહ્યું, “શું તું કંઈ ઉત્તર નથી દેતો? તેઓ તારી વિરુદ્ધ સાક્ષી આપે છે.”
63 But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
૬૩પણ ઈસુ મૌન રહ્યા. ત્યારે પ્રમુખ યાજકે ઈસુને કહ્યું, “હું તને જીવતા ઈશ્વરના સમ આપું છું કે, ઈશ્વરનો દીકરો જે ખ્રિસ્ત છે તે તું જ છે કે નહિ, એ અમને કહે.”
64 “You have said it yourself,” Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
૬૪ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તેં જ કહ્યું છે, પરંતુ હું તમને કહું છું કે, હવે પછી તમે માણસના દીકરાને પરાક્રમના જમણાં હાથ પર બેઠેલા તથા આકાશના વાદળો પર આવતા નિહાળશો.”
65 At this, the high priest tore his clothes and declared, “He has blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.
૬૫ત્યારે પ્રમુખ યાજકે પોતાના વસ્ત્ર ફાડીને કહ્યું કે, “તેણે દુર્ભાષણ કર્યું છે. આપણને બીજા સાક્ષીઓની શી જરૂર છે? જુઓ, હવે તમે એ દુર્ભાષણ સાંભળ્યું છે.
66 What do you think?” “He deserves to die,” they answered.
૬૬તમે શું વિચારો છો?” તેઓએ ઉત્તર દેતાં કહ્યું કે, “તે મૃત્યુદંડને પાત્ર છે.”
67 Then they spit in His face and struck Him. Others slapped Him
૬૭ત્યારે તેઓએ તેમના મુખ પર થૂંકીને તેમને મુક્કીઓ મારી, અને તેને થપ્પડો મારતાં કહ્યું કે,
68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who hit You?”
૬૮“ઓ ખ્રિસ્ત, તને કોણે માર્યું એ અમને કહી બતાવ.”
69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came up to him. “You also were with Jesus the Galilean,” she said.
૬૯પિતર બહાર આંગણમાં બેઠો હતો, ત્યારે એક સેવિકાએ તેની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું કે, “તું પણ ગાલીલના ઈસુની સાથે હતો.”
70 But he denied it before them all: “I do not know what you are talking about.”
૭૦પણ તેણે સહુની આગળ નકાર કરતાં કહ્યું કે, “તું જે કહે છે તે હું જાણતો નથી.”
71 When Peter had gone out to the gateway, another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
૭૧તે બહાર પરસાળમાં ગયો ત્યારે બીજી દાસીએ તેને જોઈને જેઓ ત્યાં હતા તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “એ પણ નાસરેથના ઈસુની સંગાથે હતો.”
72 And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man!”
૭૨પણ તેણે સમ ખાતાં ફરીથી નકાર કર્યો કે, “હું તે માણસને ઓળખતો નથી.”
73 After a little while, those standing nearby came up to Peter. “Surely you are one of them,” they said, “for your accent gives you away.”
૭૩થોડીવાર પછી પાસે ઊભેલાઓએ આવીને પિતરને કહ્યું કે, “ખરેખર તું પણ તેઓમાંનો એક છે, કેમ કે તારી બોલીથી તું ઓળખાય છે.”
74 At that he began to curse and swear to them, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.
૭૪ત્યારે તે શાપ દેવા તથા સમ ખાવા લાગ્યો કે, “હું તે માણસને ઓળખતો નથી.” તરત જ મરઘો બોલ્યો.
75 Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
૭૫જે વાત ઈસુએ પિતરને કહી હતી કે, “મરઘો બોલ્યા અગાઉ ત્રણ વાર તું મારો નકાર કરીશ,” તે તેને યાદ આવી; ત્યારે બહાર જઈને તે બહુ રડ્યો.
