< Matthew 24 >

1 As Jesus left the temple and was walking away, His disciples came up to Him to point out its buildings.
anantaraṁ yīśu ryadā mandirād bahi rgacchati, tadānīṁ śiṣyāstaṁ mandiranirmmāṇaṁ darśayitumāgatāḥ|
2 “Do you see all these things?” He replied. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
3 While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” (aiōn g165)
anantaraṁ tasmin jaitunaparvvatopari samupaviṣṭe śiṣyāstasya samīpamāgatya guptaṁ papracchuḥ, etā ghaṭanāḥ kadā bhaviṣyanti? bhavata āgamanasya yugāntasya ca kiṁ lakṣma? tadasmān vadatu| (aiōn g165)
4 Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you.
tadānīṁ yīśustānavocat, avadhadvvaṁ, kopi yuṣmān na bhramayet|
5 For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
bahavo mama nāma gṛhlanta āgamiṣyanti, khrīṣṭo'hameveti vācaṁ vadanto bahūn bhramayiṣyanti|
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.
yūyañca saṁgrāmasya raṇasya cāḍambaraṁ śroṣyatha, avadhadvvaṁ tena cañcalā mā bhavata, etānyavaśyaṁ ghaṭiṣyante, kintu tadā yugānto nahi|
7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
aparaṁ deśasya vipakṣo deśo rājyasya vipakṣo rājyaṁ bhaviṣyati, sthāne sthāne ca durbhikṣaṁ mahāmārī bhūkampaśca bhaviṣyanti,
8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
etāni duḥkhopakramāḥ|
9 Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.
tadānīṁ lokā duḥkhaṁ bhojayituṁ yuṣmān parakareṣu samarpayiṣyanti haniṣyanti ca, tathā mama nāmakāraṇād yūyaṁ sarvvadeśīyamanujānāṁ samīpe ghṛṇārhā bhaviṣyatha|
10 At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another,
bahuṣu vighnaṁ prāptavatsu parasparam ṛtīyāṁ kṛtavatsu ca eko'paraṁ parakareṣu samarpayiṣyati|
11 and many false prophets will arise and mislead many.
tathā bahavo mṛṣābhaviṣyadvādina upasthāya bahūn bhramayiṣyanti|
12 Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
duṣkarmmaṇāṁ bāhulyāñca bahūnāṁ prema śītalaṁ bhaviṣyati|
13 But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
kintu yaḥ kaścit śeṣaṁ yāvad dhairyyamāśrayate, saeva paritrāyiṣyate|
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
aparaṁ sarvvadeśīyalokān pratimākṣī bhavituṁ rājasya śubhasamācāraḥ sarvvajagati pracāriṣyate, etādṛśi sati yugānta upasthāsyati|
15 So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination of desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand),
ato yat sarvvanāśakṛdghṛṇārhaṁ vastu dāniyelbhaviṣyadvadinā proktaṁ tad yadā puṇyasthāne sthāpitaṁ drakṣyatha, (yaḥ paṭhati, sa budhyatāṁ)
16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
tadānīṁ ye yihūdīyadeśe tiṣṭhanti, te parvvateṣu palāyantāṁ|
17 Let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve anything from his house.
yaḥ kaścid gṛhapṛṣṭhe tiṣṭhati, sa gṛhāt kimapi vastvānetum adhe nāvarohet|
18 And let no one in the field return for his cloak.
yaśca kṣetre tiṣṭhati, sopi vastramānetuṁ parāvṛtya na yāyāt|
19 How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers!
tadānīṁ garbhiṇīstanyapāyayitrīṇāṁ durgati rbhaviṣyati|
20 Pray that your flight will not occur in the winter or on the Sabbath.
ato yaṣmākaṁ palāyanaṁ śītakāle viśrāmavāre vā yanna bhavet, tadarthaṁ prārthayadhvam|
21 For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again.
ā jagadārambhād etatkālaparyyanantaṁ yādṛśaḥ kadāpi nābhavat na ca bhaviṣyati tādṛśo mahākleśastadānīm upasthāsyati|
22 If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short.
23 At that time, if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe it.
aparañca paśyata, khrīṣṭo'tra vidyate, vā tatra vidyate, tadānīṁ yadī kaścid yuṣmāna iti vākyaṁ vadati, tathāpi tat na pratīt|
24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.
yato bhāktakhrīṣṭā bhāktabhaviṣyadvādinaśca upasthāya yāni mahanti lakṣmāṇi citrakarmmāṇi ca prakāśayiṣyanti, tai ryadi sambhavet tarhi manonītamānavā api bhrāmiṣyante|
25 See, I have told you in advance.
paśyata, ghaṭanātaḥ pūrvvaṁ yuṣmān vārttām avādiṣam|
26 So if they tell you, ‘There He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.
ataḥ paśyata, sa prāntare vidyata iti vākye kenacit kathitepi bahi rmā gacchata, vā paśyata, sontaḥpure vidyate, etadvākya uktepi mā pratīta|
27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
yato yathā vidyut pūrvvadiśo nirgatya paścimadiśaṁ yāvat prakāśate, tathā mānuṣaputrasyāpyāgamanaṁ bhaviṣyati|
28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
yatra śavastiṣṭhati, tatreva gṛdhrā milanti|
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’
aparaṁ tasya kleśasamayasyāvyavahitaparatra sūryyasya tejo lopsyate, candramā jyosnāṁ na kariṣyati, nabhaso nakṣatrāṇi patiṣyanti, gagaṇīyā grahāśca vicaliṣyanti|
30 At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
tadānīm ākāśamadhye manujasutasya lakṣma darśiṣyate, tato nijaparākrameṇa mahātejasā ca meghārūḍhaṁ manujasutaṁ nabhasāgacchantaṁ vilokya pṛthivyāḥ sarvvavaṁśīyā vilapiṣyanti|
31 And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
tadānīṁ sa mahāśabdāyamānatūryyā vādakān nijadūtān praheṣyati, te vyomna ekasīmāto'parasīmāṁ yāvat caturdiśastasya manonītajanān ānīya melayiṣyanti|
32 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branches become tender and sprout leaves, you know that summer is near.
uḍumbarapādapasya dṛṣṭāntaṁ śikṣadhvaṁ; yadā tasya navīnāḥ śākhā jāyante, pallavādiśca nirgacchati, tadā nidāghakālaḥ savidho bhavatīti yūyaṁ jānītha;
33 So also, when you see all these things, you will know that He is near, right at the door.
tadvad etā ghaṭanā dṛṣṭvā sa samayo dvāra upāsthād iti jānīta|
34 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened.
yuṣmānahaṁ tathyaṁ vadāmi, idānīntanajanānāṁ gamanāt pūrvvameva tāni sarvvāṇi ghaṭiṣyante|
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
nabhomedinyo rluptayorapi mama vāk kadāpi na lopsyate|
36 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
aparaṁ mama tātaṁ vinā mānuṣaḥ svargastho dūto vā kopi taddinaṁ taddaṇḍañca na jñāpayati|
37 As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
aparaṁ nohe vidyamāne yādṛśamabhavat tādṛśaṁ manujasutasyāgamanakālepi bhaviṣyati|
38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark.
phalato jalāplāvanāt pūrvvaṁ yaddinaṁ yāvat nohaḥ potaṁ nārohat, tāvatkālaṁ yathā manuṣyā bhojane pāne vivahane vivāhane ca pravṛttā āsan;
39 And they were oblivious, until the flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
aparam āplāvitoyamāgatya yāvat sakalamanujān plāvayitvā nānayat, tāvat te yathā na vidāmāsuḥ, tathā manujasutāgamanepi bhaviṣyati|
40 Two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
tadā kṣetrasthitayordvayoreko dhāriṣyate, aparastyājiṣyate|
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
tathā peṣaṇyā piṁṣatyorubhayo ryoṣitorekā dhāriṣyate'parā tyājiṣyate|
42 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day on which your Lord will come.
yuṣmākaṁ prabhuḥ kasmin daṇḍa āgamiṣyati, tad yuṣmābhi rnāvagamyate, tasmāt jāgrataḥ santastiṣṭhata|
43 But understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
kutra yāme stena āgamiṣyatīti ced gṛhastho jñātum aśakṣyat, tarhi jāgaritvā taṁ sandhiṁ karttitum avārayiṣyat tad jānīta|
44 For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.
yuṣmābhiravadhīyatāṁ, yato yuṣmābhi ryatra na budhyate, tatraiva daṇḍe manujasuta āyāsyati|
45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time?
prabhu rnijaparivārān yathākālaṁ bhojayituṁ yaṁ dāsam adhyakṣīkṛtya sthāpayati, tādṛśo viśvāsyo dhīmān dāsaḥ kaḥ?
46 Blessed is that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
prabhurāgatya yaṁ dāsaṁ tathācarantaṁ vīkṣate, saeva dhanyaḥ|
47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
yuṣmānahaṁ satyaṁ vadāmi, sa taṁ nijasarvvasvasyādhipaṁ kariṣyati|
48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says in his heart, ‘My master will be away a long time.’
kintu prabhurāgantuṁ vilambata iti manasi cintayitvā yo duṣṭo dāso
49 And he begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.
'paradāsān praharttuṁ mattānāṁ saṅge bhoktuṁ pātuñca pravarttate,
50 The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not anticipate.
sa dāso yadā nāpekṣate, yañca daṇḍaṁ na jānāti, tatkālaeva tatprabhurupasthāsyati|
51 Then he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
tadā taṁ daṇḍayitvā yatra sthāne rodanaṁ dantagharṣaṇañcāsāte, tatra kapaṭibhiḥ sākaṁ taddaśāṁ nirūpayiṣyati|
