Mark 9
1 Then Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God arrive with power.”
καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ⸂τῶν ὧδε ἑστηκότων οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐληλυθυῖαν ἐν δυνάμει.
2 After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them.
Καὶ μετὰ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶτὸν Ἰάκωβον ⸀καὶ Ἰωάννην, καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατʼ ἰδίαν μόνους. καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν,
3 His clothes became radiantly white, brighter than any launderer on earth could bleach them.
καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ⸀ἐγένετοστίλβοντα λευκὰ ⸀λίανοἷα γναφεὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ δύναται ⸀οὕτωςλευκᾶναι.
4 And Elijah and Moses appeared before them, talking with Jesus.
καὶ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας σὺν Μωϋσεῖ, καὶ ἦσαν συλλαλοῦντες τῷ Ἰησοῦ.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters —one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Ῥαββί, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι, καὶ ποιήσωμεν ⸂τρεῖς σκηνάς, σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν.
6 For they were all so terrified that Peter did not know what else to say.
οὐ γὰρ ᾔδει τί ⸀ἀποκριθῇ ⸂ἔκφοβοι γὰρ ἐγένοντο.
7 Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!”
καὶ ἐγένετονεφέλη ἐπισκιάζουσα αὐτοῖς, καὶ ⸀ἐγένετο φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ⸂ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ.
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they saw no one with them except Jesus.
καὶ ἐξάπινα περιβλεψάμενοι οὐκέτι οὐδένα εἶδον ⸂ἀλλὰ τὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον μεθʼ ἑαυτῶν.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus admonished them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
⸂Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ⸀ἐκτοῦ ὄρους διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ ⸂ἃ εἶδον διηγήσωνται, εἰ μὴ ὅταν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ.
10 So they kept this matter to themselves, discussing what it meant to rise from the dead.
καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι.
11 And they asked Jesus, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Ὅτι λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον;
12 He replied, “Elijah does indeed come first, and he restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected?
ὁ δὲ ⸀ἔφηαὐτοῖς· Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ⸀ἀποκαθιστάνειπάντα, καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ⸀ἐξουδενηθῇ
13 But I tell you that Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they wished, just as it is written about him.”
ἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν, καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ⸀ἤθελον καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπʼ αὐτόν.
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.
Καὶ ⸂ἐλθόντες πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εἶδον ὄχλον πολὺν περὶ αὐτοὺς καὶ γραμματεῖς συζητοῦντας ⸂πρὸς αὐτούς.
15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were filled with awe and ran to greet Him.
καὶ ⸀εὐθὺςπᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ⸂ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐξεθαμβήθησαν, καὶ προστρέχοντες ἠσπάζοντο αὐτόν.
16 “What are you disputing with them?” He asked.
καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν ⸀αὐτούς Τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς ⸀αὑτούς
17 Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute.
καὶ ⸂ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου· Διδάσκαλε, ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ, ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον·
18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked Your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable.”
καὶ ὅπου ⸀ἐὰναὐτὸν καταλάβῃ ῥήσσει αὐτόν, καὶ ἀφρίζει καὶ τρίζει τοὺς ⸀ὀδόνταςκαὶ ξηραίνεται· καὶ εἶπα τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου ἵνα αὐτὸ ἐκβάλωσιν, καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν.
19 “O unbelieving generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me.”
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸀αὐτοῖςλέγει· Ὦ γενεὰ ἄπιστος, ἕως πότε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔσομαι; ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν; φέρετε αὐτὸν πρός με.
20 So they brought him, and seeing Jesus, the spirit immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν. καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ⸂τὸ πνεῦμα εὐθὺς ⸀συνεσπάραξεναὐτόν, καὶ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐκυλίετο ἀφρίζων.
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been with him?” “From childhood,” he said.
καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ· Πόσος χρόνος ἐστὶν ὡς τοῦτο γέγονεν αὐτῷ; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· ⸀Ἐκπαιδιόθεν·
22 “It often throws him into the fire or into the water, trying to kill him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
καὶ πολλάκις ⸂καὶ εἰς πῦρ αὐτὸν ἔβαλεν καὶ εἰς ὕδατα ἵνα ἀπολέσῃ αὐτόν· ἀλλʼ εἴ τι ⸀δύνῃ βοήθησον ἡμῖν σπλαγχνισθεὶς ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς.
23 “If You can?” echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!”
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Τὸ Εἰ ⸀δύνῃ πάντα δυνατὰ τῷ πιστεύοντι.
24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
⸀εὐθὺςκράξας ὁ πατὴρ τοῦ ⸀παιδίουἔλεγεν· ⸀Πιστεύω βοήθει μου τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ.
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again.”
ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἐπισυντρέχει ὄχλος ἐπετίμησεν τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ λέγων αὐτῷ· Τὸ ⸂ἄλαλον καὶ κωφὸν πνεῦμα, ἐγὼ ⸂ἐπιτάσσω σοι, ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ καὶ μηκέτι εἰσέλθῃς εἰς αὐτόν.
26 After shrieking and convulsing him violently, the spirit came out. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He is dead.”
καὶ ⸂κράξας καὶ πολλὰ σπαράξας ἐξῆλθεν· καὶ ἐγένετο ὡσεὶ νεκρὸς ὥστε ⸀τοὺςπολλοὺς λέγειν ὅτι ἀπέθανεν.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς κρατήσας ⸂τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ ἤγειρεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀνέστη.
28 After Jesus had gone into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
καὶ ⸂εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς οἶκον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂κατʼ ἰδίαν ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν· Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό;
29 Jesus answered, “This kind cannot come out, except by prayer.”
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τοῦτο τὸ γένος ἐν οὐδενὶ δύναται ἐξελθεῖν εἰ μὴ ἐν ⸀προσευχῇ
30 Going on from there, they passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know,
Κἀκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντες ⸀παρεπορεύοντοδιὰ τῆς Γαλιλαίας, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἵνα τις γνοῖ·
31 because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.”
ἐδίδασκεν γὰρ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων, καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀποκτανθεὶς ⸂μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστήσεται.
32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.
οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα, καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο αὐτὸν ἐπερωτῆσαι.
33 Then they came to Capernaum. While Jesus was in the house, He asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
Καὶ ⸀ἦλθονεἰς Καφαρναούμ. καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ γενόμενος ἐπηρώτα αὐτούς· Τί ἐν τῇ ⸀ὁδῷδιελογίζεσθε;
34 But they were silent, for on the way they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.
οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων, πρὸς ἀλλήλους γὰρ διελέχθησαν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τίς μείζων.
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all.”
καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Εἴ τις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος καὶ πάντων διάκονος.
36 Then He had a little child stand among them. Taking the child in His arms, He said to them,
καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς·
37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me.”
Ὃς ⸀ἂνἓν τῶν τοιούτων παιδίων δέξηται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου, ἐμὲ δέχεται· καὶ ὃς ⸁ἂνἐμὲ ⸀δέχηται οὐκ ἐμὲ δέχεται ἀλλὰ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με.
38 John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone else driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not accompany us.”
⸂Ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης· Διδάσκαλε, εἴδομέν τινα ⸀ἐντῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια, ⸂καὶ ἐκωλύομεν αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐκ ἠκολούθει ἡμῖν.
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me.
ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Μὴ κωλύετε αὐτόν, οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐστιν ὃς ποιήσει δύναμιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ δυνήσεται ταχὺ κακολογῆσαί με·
40 For whoever is not against us is for us.
ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθʼ ⸂ἡμῶν, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἐστιν.
41 Indeed, if anyone gives you even a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
Ὃς γὰρ ἂν ποτίσῃ ὑμᾶς ποτήριον ὕδατος ἐν ⸀ὀνόματιὅτιχριστοῦ ἐστε, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ⸀ὅτι οὐ μὴ ⸀ἀπολέσῃτὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ.
42 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.
Καὶ ὃς ⸀ἂνσκανδαλίσῃ ἕνα τῶν μικρῶν ⸀τούτωντῶν πιστευόντων ⸂εἰς ἐμέ, καλόν ἐστιν αὐτῷ μᾶλλον εἰ περίκειται ⸂μύλος ὀνικὸς περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ βέβληται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν.
43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. (Geenna g1067)
Καὶ ἐὰν ⸀σκανδαλίζῃσε ἡ χείρ σου, ἀπόκοψον αὐτήν· καλόν ⸂ἐστίν σε κυλλὸν ⸂εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν ἢ τὰς δύο χεῖρας ἔχοντα ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν γέενναν, εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ⸀ἄσβεστον (Geenna g1067)
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. (Geenna g1067)
καὶ ἐὰν ὁ πούς σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε ἀπόκοψον αὐτόν· καλόν ἐστίν ⸀σε εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν χωλὸν ἢ τοὺς δύο πόδας ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν ⸀γέενναν (Geenna g1067)
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, (Geenna g1067)
καὶ ἐὰν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε, ἔκβαλε αὐτόν· καλόν ⸀σέἐστιν μονόφθαλμον εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴνβασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἢ δύο ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς ⸀τὴν ⸀γέενναν (Geenna g1067)
48 where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’
ὅπου ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται.
49 For everyone will be salted with fire.
Πᾶς γὰρ πυρὶ ⸀ἁλισθήσεται
50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
καλὸν τὸ ἅλα· ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας ἄναλον γένηται, ἐν τίνι αὐτὸ ἀρτύσετε; ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ⸀ἅλα, καὶ εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἀλλήλοις.
