< Mark 16 >

1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint the body of Jesus.
When the Sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought some spices, so that they might go and anoint the body of Jesus.
2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they went to the tomb.
Very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb, after sunrise.
3 They were asking one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb?”
They were saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?’
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, even though it was extremely large.
But, on looking up, they saw that the stone had already been rolled back; it was a very large one.
5 When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
Going into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on their right, in a white robe, and they were dismayed; but he said to them,
6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him.
‘Do not be dismayed; you are looking for Jesus, the Nazarene, who has been crucified; he has risen, he is not here! Look! Here is the place where they laid him.
7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’”
But go, and say to his disciples and to Peter “He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.”’
8 So the women left the tomb and ran away, trembling and bewildered. And in their fear they did not say a word to anyone.
They went out, and fled from the tomb, for they were trembling and bewildered; and they did not say a word to anyone, for they were frightened.
9 (note: The most reliable and earliest manuscripts do not include Mark 16:9-20.) Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons.
(note: The most reliable and earliest manuscripts do not include Mark 16:9-20.) After his rising again, early on the first day of the week, Jesus appeared first of all to Mary of Magdala, from whom he had driven out seven demons.
10 She went and told those who had been with Him, who were mourning and weeping.
She went and told the news to those who had been with him and who were now in sorrow and tears;
11 And when they heard that Jesus was alive and she had seen Him, they did not believe it.
yet even they, when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, did not believe it.
12 After this, Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them as they walked along in the country.
Afterwards, altered in appearance, he made himself known to two of them, as they were walking, on their way into the country.
13 And they went back and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.
They also went and told the rest, but they did not believe even them.
14 Later, as they were eating, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
Later on, he made himself known to the Eleven themselves as they were at a meal, and reproached them with their want of faith and their stubbornness, because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had risen from the dead.
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Then he said to them, ‘Go into all the world, and proclaim the good news to all creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who refuses to believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
Moreover these signs will attend those who believe. In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;
18 they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.”
they will take up snakes in their hands; and, if they drink any poison, it will not hurt them; they will place their hands on sick people and they will recover.’
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
So the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat at the right hand of God.
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked through them, confirming His word by the signs that accompanied it.
But they set out, and made the proclamation everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the message by the signs which attended it. But all that had been revealed to them they reported briefly to Peter and his companions. Afterwards Jesus himself sent them out, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.
