< Mark 13 >
1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look at the magnificent stones and buildings!”
And He departing out from the temple, one of His disciples says to Him, Teacher, behold, how great stones and how great buildings!
2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” Jesus replied. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
And Jesus responding said to him, Do you see these great buildings? stone may not be left upon stone, which may not be thrown down.
3 While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately,
And He sitting upon the Mount of Olives in front of the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately,
4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to be fulfilled?”
Tell us, when these things shall be? and what shall be the sign when all these things may be about to have an end?
5 Jesus began by telling them, “See to it that no one deceives you.
And Jesus began to say to them, See, lest any one may deceive you.
6 Many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many.
For many will come in my name, saying, I am He; and will deceive many. I
7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.
And when you may hear of wars and rumors of wars, be not disturbed: for it behooves it to be so; but the end is not yet.
8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, as well as famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earth-quakes in divers places; and there shall be famines.
9 So be on your guard. You will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.
These are the beginnings of travails. But you take heed to yourselves: for they will deliver you into councils; and will beat you in the synagogues: and you shall stand before governors and kings on account of me, for a testimony unto them.
10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations.
And it behooves the gospel first to be preached to all the nations.
11 But when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand what to say. Instead, speak whatever you are given at that time, for it will not be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
And when they may lead you forth, delivering you up, do not be solicitous what you may speak, nor meditate: but whatsoever may be given to you in that hour, speak this: for you are not those speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise against their parents and have them put to death.
And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father the child; and the children will rise up against the parents, and put them to death.
13 You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
And you shall be hated by all on account of my name: but the one persevering to the end, the same shall be saved.
14 So when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
And when you may see the abomination of desolation standing where it ought not (let him that readeth know), then let those in Judea fly to the mountains:
15 Let no one on the housetop go back inside to retrieve anything from his house.
and let not the one on the housetop come down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house:
16 And let no one in the field return for his cloak.
and let not the one who is in the field turn back to take his garment.
17 How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers!
But alas unto those who are in gestation and nursing in those days.
18 Pray that this will not occur in the winter.
But pray that your flight may not be in the winter.
19 For those will be days of tribulation unmatched from the beginning of God’s creation until now, and never to be seen again.
For these days will be tribulation, such as has never been from the beginning of creation which God created, until now, and never may be.
20 If the Lord had not cut short those days, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has cut them short.
And unless the Lord shortened those days, no flesh would be saved: but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe it.
And if then one may say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, Lo, there; believe not.
22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.
For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and give signs and wonders, to deceive even the elect, if possible.
23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.
But you see: behold, I have foretold you all things.
24 But in those days, after that tribulation: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
And in those days, after that desolation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give her light,
25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’
and the stars of heaven will be falling, and the powers which are in the heavens shall be shaken.
26 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
And then they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 And He will send out the angels to gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
And then He will send forth His angels, and will gather His elect from the four winds, from the extremity of the earth unto the extremity of heaven.
28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branches become tender and sprout leaves, you know that summer is near.
But learn the parable from the fig-tree: when her branches may be now tender, and she may grow out leaves, know that the summer is nigh.
29 So also, when you see these things happening, know that He is near, right at the door.
So you also, when you may see these things take place, know that it is already at the doors.
30 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened.
Truly I say unto you, this race may not pass away, until all these things may be fulfilled.
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
But concerning that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels who are in heaven, or the Son, but the Father.
33 Be on your guard and stay alert! For you do not know when the appointed time will come.
Beware, watch; for you know not when the time is.
34 It is like a man going on a journey who left his house, put each servant in charge of his own task, and instructed the doorkeeper to keep watch.
As a man, going away, leaving his own house, and giving authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and commanded the porter that he should watch.
35 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return—whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning.
Watch therefore: for you know not when the Lord of the house cometh, late, or at midnight, or at the crowing of the cock, or in the morning;
36 Otherwise, he may arrive without notice and find you sleeping.
lest having come suddenly he may find you sleeping.
37 And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Keep watch!”
And the things I say to you, I say to all, Watch.
