Judges 20
1 Then all the Israelites from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out, and the congregation assembled as one man before the LORD at Mizpah.
Toàn dân Ít-ra-ên hiệp thành một, từ phía bắc của Đan cho đến phía nam của Bê-e-sê-ba, cả xứ Ga-la-át, kéo đến họp tại Mích-pa trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
2 The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of God’s people: 400,000 men on foot, armed with swords.
Tất cả lãnh đạo của các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên có 400.000 quân có gươm đều hiện diện đông đủ trong đại hội của con dân Đức Chúa Trời.
3 (Meanwhile the Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites asked, “Tell us, how did this wicked thing happen?”
Người Bên-gia-min cũng nghe tin người Ít-ra-ên kéo lên Mích-pa. Người Ít-ra-ên hỏi tội ác kinh khiếp này đã xảy ra thể nào.
4 So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered: “I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night.
Người Lê-vi có vợ bị giết được gọi đến và trình bày như sau: “Đêm hôm ấy, chúng tôi ghé lại nghỉ chân ở Ghi-bê-a thuộc xứ Bên-gia-min.
5 And during the night, the men of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house. They intended to kill me, but they abused my concubine, and she died.
Người Ghi-bê-a kéo đến vây nhà, định giết tôi. Họ hãm hiếp vợ lẽ tôi cho đến chết.
6 Then I took my concubine, cut her into pieces, and sent her throughout the land of Israel’s inheritance, because they had committed a lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
Tôi cắt vợ tôi ra làm mười hai mảnh và gửi đi khắp xứ Ít-ra-ên, vì những người kia đã phạm tội trọng, gây sỉ nhục.
7 Behold, all you Israelites, give your advice and verdict here and now.”
Vậy, xin cộng đồng Ít-ra-ên quyết định phải giải quyết việc này như thế nào!”
8 Then all the people stood as one man and said, “Not one of us will return to his tent or to his house.
Mọi người đồng loạt đứng dậy, nói: “Không một ai trong chúng ta sẽ trở về nhà! Không, dù một người trong chúng ta!
9 Now this is what we will do to Gibeah: We will go against it as the lot dictates.
Chúng ta phải xử lý việc Ghi-bê-a cho xong. Thứ tự tiến quân của các đại tộc sẽ được định đoạt bằng cách bắt thăm.
10 We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to punish them for the atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
Một phần mười quân số sẽ lo việc tiếp tế lương thực, để chín phần còn lại rảnh tay trừng trị Ghê-ba của Bên-gia-min về tội xấu xa họ đã phạm.”
11 So all the men of Israel gathered as one man, united against the city.
Vậy, toàn dân Ít-ra-ên đồng tâm hợp nhất trong việc chinh phạt thành.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
Các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên sai sứ giả rao khắp đất Bên-gia-min: “Có thể nào một việc xấu xa như thế lại xảy ra giữa vòng anh chị em được!
13 Hand over the wicked men of Gibeah so we can put them to death and purge Israel of this evil.” But the Benjamites refused to heed the voice of their fellow Israelites.
Vậy, chỉ yêu cầu giao nạp những người đồi bại ở Ghi-bê-a cho chúng tôi giết đi để giải tội cho Ít-ra-ên.” Nhưng người Bên-gia-min không chịu nghe lời.
14 And from their cities they came together at Gibeah to go out and fight against the Israelites.
Họ động viên chiến sĩ trong các thành thị kéo đến Ghi-bê-a để tranh chiến với Ít-ra-ên.
15 On that day the Benjamites mobilized 26,000 swordsmen from their cities, in addition to the 700 select men of Gibeah.
Ngay lập tức, người Bên-gia-min huy động được 26.000 người cầm gươm từ các thành của họ. Riêng tại Ghi-bê-a, số người được chọn để tham gia cuộc chiến là 700.
16 Among all these soldiers there were 700 select left-handers, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair without missing.
Trong quân Bên-gia-min, có 700 người thuận tay trái, có tài bắn ná, bách phát bách trúng, không hề sai lệch.
17 The Israelites, apart from Benjamin, mobilized 400,000 swordsmen, each one an experienced warrior.
Quân đội Ít-ra-ên có 400.000 quân thiện chiến, có tài dùng gươm, không kể người Bên-gia-min.
18 The Israelites set out, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God, “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” “Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.
Trước cuộc chiến, người Ít-ra-ên kéo đến Bê-tên để cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời: “Đại tộc nào sẽ đi tiên phong đánh người Bên-gia-min?” Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Giu-đa đi tiên phong.”
19 The next morning the Israelites set out and camped near Gibeah.
Hôm sau, quân đội Ít-ra-ên lên đường sớm và hạ trại gần Ghi-bê-a.
20 And the men of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin and took up their battle positions at Gibeah.
Họ dàn quân tại Ghi-bê-a để đánh người Bên-gia-min,
21 And the Benjamites came out of Gibeah and cut down 22,000 Israelites on the battlefield that day.
quân Bên-gia-min từ Ghi-bê-a kéo ra, đánh giết 22.000 quân Ít-ra-ên trong ngày ấy.
22 But the Israelite army took courage and again took their battle positions in the same place where they had arrayed themselves on the first day.
Nhưng quân Ít-ra-ên khích lệ nhau và lại kéo nhau ra dàn quân tại chỗ cũ.
23 They went up and wept before the LORD until evening, inquiring of Him, “Should we again draw near for battle against our brothers the Benjamites?” And the LORD answered, “Go up against them.”
Người Ít-ra-ên khóc lóc với Chúa Hằng Hữu cho đến tối hôm ấy. Họ cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Chúng tôi có nên chiến đấu với người Bên-gia-min anh em chúng tôi nữa không?” Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Hãy đi và đánh lại chúng.”
24 On the second day the Israelites advanced against the Benjamites.
Vậy, ngày hôm sau quân Ít-ra-ên lại kéo đến đánh người Bên-gia-min.
25 That same day the Benjamites came out against them from Gibeah and cut down another 18,000 Israelites, all of them armed with swords.
Nhưng quân Bên-gia-min lại kéo ra tấn công, giết thêm 18.000 quân cầm gươm của Ít-ra-ên.
26 Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel, where they sat weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted until evening and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
Toàn dân Ít-ra-ên kéo lên Bê-tên khóc lóc trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu và không ăn uống gì cả cho đến tối. Họ dâng tế lễ thiêu và tế lễ cầu an.
27 And the Israelites inquired of the LORD. (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there,
Người Ít-ra-ên kéo lên để tìm kiếm sự chỉ dẫn từ Chúa Hằng Hữu. (Lúc ấy, Hòm Giao Ước của Đức Chúa Trời ở tại Bê-tên,
28 and Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, served before it.) The Israelites asked, “Should we again go out to battle against our brothers the Benjamites, or should we stop?” The LORD answered, “Fight, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
và Phi-nê-a, con Ê-lê-a-sa, cháu A-rôn, làm thầy tế lễ). Người Ít-ra-ên cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Chúng tôi nên tiếp tục chiến đấu với người Bên-gia-min, anh em chúng tôi hay nên đình chiến?” Chúa Hằng Hữu đáp: “Hãy đi! Ngày mai Ta sẽ cho các ngươi chiến thắng.”
29 So Israel set up an ambush around Gibeah.
Vậy, Ít-ra-ên đem quân phục kích quanh Ghi-bê-a.
30 On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.
Họ lại dàn trận ngày thứ ba cũng như những lần trước.
31 The Benjamites came out against them and were drawn away from the city. They began to attack the people as before, killing about thirty men of Israel in the fields and on the roads, one of which led up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.
Khi quân Bên-gia-min kéo ra tấn công, quân Ít-ra-ên rút lui, dụ họ ra xa thành. Quân Bên-gia-min bắt đầu chém giết như những ngày trước. Họ giết chừng ba mươi người Ít-ra-ên giữa đồng và dọc theo đường cái nối liền Bê-tên với Ghi-bê-a.
32 “We are defeating them as before,” said the Benjamites. But the Israelites said, “Let us retreat and draw them away from the city onto the roads.”
Quân Bên-gia-min reo hò: “Chúng nó lại thua nữa rồi!” Trong khi đó người Ít-ra-ên bảo nhau: “Dụ chúng nó ra cho xa thành. Cứ theo đường cái mà chạy.”
33 So all the men of Israel got up from their places and arrayed themselves at Baal-tamar, and the Israelites in ambush charged from their positions west of Gibeah.
Khi cánh quân chủ lực Ít-ra-ên đến Ba-anh Tha-ma, họ quay lại, dàn trận. Đồng thời, cánh phục binh Ít-ra-ên từ đồng bằng Ghê-ba đổ ra.
34 Then 10,000 select men from all Israel made a frontal assault against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not realize that disaster was upon them.
Có 10.000 quân Ít-ra-ên chặn phía trước Ghi-bê-a. Trận chiến trở nên ác liệt, nhưng người Bên-gia-min vẫn chưa ý thức được nguy cơ sắp đến.
35 The LORD defeated Benjamin in the presence of Israel, and on that day the Israelites slaughtered 25,100 Benjamites, all armed with swords.
Chúa Hằng Hữu trừng phạt Bên-gia-min trước mặt người Ít-ra-ên và hôm ấy, quân Ít-ra-ên giết 25.100 quân cầm gươm của Bên-gia-min, họ đều là những quân thiện chiến, có tài dùng gươm.
36 Then the Benjamites realized they had been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the ambush they had set against Gibeah.
Người Bên-gia-min biết mình đã bại trận. Trong trận này, quân Ít-ra-ên rút lui vì tin tưởng ở cánh quân phục kích bên ngoài Ghi-bê-a.
37 The men in ambush rushed suddenly against Gibeah; they advanced and put the whole city to the sword.
Cánh quân này về sau xông vào thành, chém giết hết mọi người bên trong.
38 The men of Israel had arranged a signal with the men in ambush: When they sent up a great cloud of smoke from the city,
Người Ít-ra-ên định cho một trụ khói bay lên từ thành để làm dấu hiệu liên lạc giữa hai cánh quân.
39 the men of Israel would turn in the battle. When the Benjamites had begun to strike them down, killing about thirty men of Israel, they said, “They are defeated before us as in the first battle.”
Khi người Ít-ra-ên thấy cột khói, họ quay lại và tấn cống quân Bên-gia-min. Khi người Bên-gia-min giết được chừng ba mươi người Ít-ra-ên, họ bảo nhau: “Chúng ta đã đánh bại chúng như trong trận chiến đầu tiên rồi!”
40 But when the column of smoke began to go up from the city, the Benjamites looked behind them and saw the whole city going up in smoke.
Nhưng khi quân Bên-gia-min nhìn lại phía sau, thì thấy thành bị cháy, khói lửa ngập trời,
41 Then the men of Israel turned back on them, and the men of Benjamin were terrified when they realized that disaster had come upon them.
vừa lúc ấy cánh chủ lực Ít-ra-ên quay lại tấn công. Tại thời điểm ấy, người Bên-gia-min khiếp đảm, vì nhận thấy tai họa diệt vong đã gần kề.
42 So they fled before the men of Israel toward the wilderness, but the battle overtook them, and the men coming out of the cities struck them down there.
Họ quay lưng bỏ chạy về phía hoang mạc, người Ít-ra-ên đuổi theo. Nhưng họ không thể chạy khỏi vì cánh phục binh từ thành đổ ra đánh giết.
43 They surrounded the Benjamites, pursued them, and easily overtook them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east.
Vậy, người Bên-gia-min bị lọt vào giữa quân Ít-ra-ên, bị rượt đuổi và bị tàn sát ở phía đông Ghi-bê-a.
44 And 18,000 Benjamites fell, all men of valor.
Tại đó có 18.000 quân mạnh mẽ nhất của Bên-gia-min bị giết.
45 Then the Benjamites turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and Israel cut down 5,000 men on the roads. And they overtook them at Gidom and struck down 2,000 more.
Số còn lại chạy vào hoang mạc về hướng đá Rim-môn, nhưng người Ít-ra-ên đuổi theo và giết được 5.000 người trên con đường cái. Họ đuổi theo tiếp cho đến khi giết thêm 2.000 người nữa ở gần Ghi-đê-ôn.
46 That day 25,000 Benjamite swordsmen fell, all men of valor.
Vậy, trong ngày ấy đại tộc Bên-gia-min có 25.000 người bị giết, họ đều là chiến sĩ dũng cảm, trang bị bằng gươm.
47 But 600 men turned and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, where they stayed four months.
Tuy nhiên, trên đường chạy vào hoang mạc, có 600 quân Bên-gia-min chạy thoát vào khu đá Rim-môn, họ trốn ở đó trong bốn tháng.
48 And the men of Israel turned back against the other Benjamites and put to the sword all the cities, including the animals and everything else they found. And they burned down all the cities in their path.
Quân Ít-ra-ên quay về và tàn sát tất cả vật sống trong thành—dân chúng, súc vật, và mọi thứ họ tìm thấy. Họ cũng phóng hỏa đốt tất cả thành mà họ đến.
