< Judges 20 >

1 Then all the Israelites from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out, and the congregation assembled as one man before the LORD at Mizpah.
Na rĩrĩ, andũ a Isiraeli othe kuuma Dani nginya Birishiba, na kuuma bũrũri wothe wa Gileadi magĩũka o taarĩ mũndũ ũmwe, makĩũngana mbere ya Jehova kũu Mizipa.
2 The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of God’s people: 400,000 men on foot, armed with swords.
Atongoria a andũ othe a mĩhĩrĩga ya Isiraeli makĩrũgama handũ hao kũu kĩũngano-inĩ kĩa andũ a Ngai, marĩ thigari ngiri magana mana meeohete hiũ cia njora.
3 (Meanwhile the Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites asked, “Tell us, how did this wicked thing happen?”
(Nao andũ Benjamini makĩigua atĩ andũ a Isiraeli nĩmambatĩte nginya Mizipa.) Hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ a Isiraeli makiuga atĩrĩ, “Ta twĩre ũrĩa ũndũ ũcio mũũru wekĩkire.”
4 So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered: “I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Mũlawii ũcio mũthuuri wa mũtumia ũrĩa woragĩtwo akiuga atĩrĩ, “Niĩ na thuriya yakwa tuokire Gibea ya andũ a Benjamini tũraarĩrĩre kuo.
5 And during the night, the men of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house. They intended to kill me, but they abused my concubine, and she died.
Ũtukũ ũcio andũ a Gibea nĩmaanũmĩrĩire, na magĩthiũrũrũkĩria nyũmba, mehaarĩirie kũnjũraga. Makĩnyiita thuriya yakwa na hinya, nginya ĩgĩkua.
6 Then I took my concubine, cut her into pieces, and sent her throughout the land of Israel’s inheritance, because they had committed a lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
7 Behold, all you Israelites, give your advice and verdict here and now.”
Atĩrĩrĩ, inyuĩ andũ a Isiraeli inyuothe, kĩariei, mũheane itua rĩanyu.”
8 Then all the people stood as one man and said, “Not one of us will return to his tent or to his house.
Andũ acio othe magĩũkĩra o taarĩ mũndũ ũmwe, makiuga atĩrĩ, “Gũtirĩ mũndũ o na ũmwe witũ ũkũinũka. Aca, gũtirĩ o na ũmwe witũ ũgũcooka gwake mũciĩ.
9 Now this is what we will do to Gibeah: We will go against it as the lot dictates.
No rĩrĩ, ũndũ ũrĩa tũgwĩka Gibea nĩ ũyũ: Tũkwambata kuo tũmookĩrĩre o ta ũrĩa ũcuuki wa mĩtĩ ũgũtuonia.
10 We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to punish them for the atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
11 So all the men of Israel gathered as one man, united against the city.
Tondũ ũcio andũ othe a Isiraeli makĩũngana na makĩnyiitana o ta maarĩ mũndũ ũmwe mahũũre itũũra rĩu inene.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
Mĩhĩrĩga ya Isiraeli ĩgĩtũma andũ mathiĩ kũrĩ mũhĩrĩga wothe wa Benjamini, makamoorie atĩrĩ, “Nĩ ngero ĩrĩkũ ĩno njũru ũũ ĩĩkĩtwo gatagatĩ-inĩ kanyu?
13 Hand over the wicked men of Gibeah so we can put them to death and purge Israel of this evil.” But the Benjamites refused to heed the voice of their fellow Israelites.
Na rĩrĩ, tũnengerei andũ acio aaganu a Gibea nĩgeetha tũmoorage tweherie ũũru ũcio thĩinĩ wa Isiraeli.” No andũ a Benjamini matiigana kũigua andũ acio angĩ a Isiraeli.
14 And from their cities they came together at Gibeah to go out and fight against the Israelites.
Moimire matũũra-inĩ mao, makĩũngana hamwe kũu Gibea nĩguo mahũũrane na andũ a Isiraeli.
15 On that day the Benjamites mobilized 26,000 swordsmen from their cities, in addition to the 700 select men of Gibeah.
O ro rĩmwe andũ a Benjamini magĩcookanĩrĩria andũ arĩa marũaga na hiũ cia njora 20,060 kuuma matũũra-inĩ mao, mongereirwo harĩ andũ magana mũgwanja arĩa maathuurĩtwo kuuma kũrĩ andũ arĩa maatũũraga kũu Gibea.
16 Among all these soldiers there were 700 select left-handers, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair without missing.
Gatagatĩ-inĩ ga thigari icio ciothe nĩ kwarĩ na andũ magana mũgwanja maathuurĩtwo a kĩmotho, na o ũmwe wao nĩahotaga gũikia ihiga na kĩgũtha ũndũ angĩringa rũcuĩrĩ na ndahĩtie.
17 The Israelites, apart from Benjamin, mobilized 400,000 swordsmen, each one an experienced warrior.
Tiga andũ a Benjamini-rĩ, Isiraeli nĩmacookanĩrĩirie thigari 400 arĩa marũaga na hiũ cia njora, na othe maarĩ andũ a ita.
18 The Israelites set out, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God, “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” “Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.
Andũ a Isiraeli makĩambata nginya Betheli na magĩtuĩria ũhoro harĩ Ngai makĩũria atĩrĩ, “Nũũ thĩinĩ witũ ũkwambĩrĩria kũhũũrana na andũ aya a Benjamini?” Nake Jehova agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Juda nĩwe ũkwambĩrĩria.”
19 The next morning the Israelites set out and camped near Gibeah.
Rũciinĩ rũrũ rũngĩ andũ a Isiraeli magĩũkĩra na makĩamba hema ciao gũkuhĩ na Gibea.
20 And the men of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin and took up their battle positions at Gibeah.
Andũ a Isiraeli makiumagara makahũũrane na andũ a Benjamini, na makĩiga andũ o handũ hao mbaara-inĩ marũe nao kũu Gibea.
21 And the Benjamites came out of Gibeah and cut down 22,000 Israelites on the battlefield that day.
Nao andũ a Benjamini makiuma kũu Gibea na makĩũraga andũ a Isiraeli 22,000 kũu mbaara-inĩ mũthenya ũcio.
22 But the Israelite army took courage and again took their battle positions in the same place where they had arrayed themselves on the first day.
No andũ a Isiraeli makĩũmanĩrĩria mũndũ na ũrĩa ũngĩ na makĩrũgama handũ hao rĩngĩ o harĩa meigĩte mũthenya wa mbere.
23 They went up and wept before the LORD until evening, inquiring of Him, “Should we again draw near for battle against our brothers the Benjamites?” And the LORD answered, “Go up against them.”
Nao andũ a Isiraeli makĩambata makĩrĩrĩra mbere ya Jehova nginya hwaĩ-inĩ, nao magĩtuĩria ũhoro harĩ Jehova atĩrĩ, “Hihi twambate rĩngĩ tũkahũũrane na andũ a Benjamini, aya ariũ a ithe witũ?” Nake Jehova akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Ambatai mũkahũũrane nao.”
24 On the second day the Israelites advanced against the Benjamites.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ a Isiraeli magĩkuhĩrĩria andũ a Benjamini mũthenya wa keerĩ.
25 That same day the Benjamites came out against them from Gibeah and cut down another 18,000 Israelites, all of them armed with swords.
Mũthenya ũcio, rĩrĩa Abenjamini mookire moimĩte Gibea mahũũrane nao-rĩ, makĩũraga andũ a Isiraeli angĩ 18,000, othe meeohete hiũ cia njora.
26 Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel, where they sat weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted until evening and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
27 And the Israelites inquired of the LORD. (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there,
Nao andũ a Isiraeli, magĩtuĩria ũhoro harĩ Jehova. (Matukũ-inĩ macio ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro kĩa Ngai rĩarĩ kũu,
28 and Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, served before it.) The Israelites asked, “Should we again go out to battle against our brothers the Benjamites, or should we stop?” The LORD answered, “Fight, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
nake Finehasi mũrũ wa Eleazaru, mũrũ wa Harũni, nĩwe watungataga mbere yarĩo.) Nao makĩũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũkwambata rĩngĩ tũkahũũrane na Abenjamini ariũ a ithe witũ, kana tũtige?” Jehova akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Thiĩi, nĩ ũndũ rũciũ nĩngamaneana moko-inĩ manyu.”
29 So Israel set up an ambush around Gibeah.
Nao andũ a Isiraeli makĩmoheria mathiũrũrũkĩirie Gibea.
30 On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.
Nao makĩambata makahũũrane na andũ a Benjamini mũthenya wa gatatũ na makĩrũgama handũ hao nĩguo mahũũrane na Gibea o ta ũrĩa meekĩte hau mbere.
31 The Benjamites came out against them and were drawn away from the city. They began to attack the people as before, killing about thirty men of Israel in the fields and on the roads, one of which led up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.
Nao Abenjamini makiumĩra mamatũnge na makĩguucĩrĩrio kũraihu na itũũra rĩu inene. Makĩambĩrĩria kũhũũra andũ a Isiraeli o ta mbere ĩyo, na andũ ta mĩrongo ĩtatũ makĩrũndĩrwo werũ-inĩ na njĩra-inĩ ĩrĩa ĩthiiaga Betheli na ĩrĩa ĩngĩ Gibea.
32 “We are defeating them as before,” said the Benjamites. But the Israelites said, “Let us retreat and draw them away from the city onto the roads.”
Rĩrĩa andũ a Benjamini meeranaga atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũramahoota o ta mbere,” noguo nao andũ a Isiraeli meeranaga atĩrĩ, “Rekei tũcooke na thuutha tũmaguucĩrĩrie moime itũũra-inĩ inene moke njĩra-inĩ.”
33 So all the men of Israel got up from their places and arrayed themselves at Baal-tamar, and the Israelites in ambush charged from their positions west of Gibeah.
Andũ othe a Isiraeli makĩehera harĩa maarĩ na makĩrũgama handũ hao kũu Baali-Tamaru, nao andũ a Isiraeli arĩa meehithĩire andũ a Benjamini makiumĩra kũrĩa meehithĩte mwena wa ithũĩro wa Gibea.
34 Then 10,000 select men from all Israel made a frontal assault against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not realize that disaster was upon them.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ ngiri ikũmi arĩa maarĩ njamba iria thuure cia Isiraeli magĩtharĩkĩra Gibea kuuma na mbere. Nayo mbaara yarĩ nene ũũ atĩ andũ a Benjamini matiigana gũkũũrana ũrĩa mwanangĩko wamakuhĩrĩirie.
35 The LORD defeated Benjamin in the presence of Israel, and on that day the Israelites slaughtered 25,100 Benjamites, all armed with swords.
Nake Jehova akĩhootera andũ a Benjamini mbere ya Isiraeli, na mũthenya ũcio andũ a Isiraeli makĩũraga andũ a Benjamini 25,100, arĩa meeohete hiũ cia njora.
36 Then the Benjamites realized they had been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the ambush they had set against Gibeah.
Tondũ ũcio andũ a Benjamini makĩona atĩ nĩmaatooretio. Na rĩrĩ, andũ a Isiraeli nĩmoorĩire andũ a Benjamini, nĩ ũndũ nĩmehokete andũ arĩa maigĩte a kuoheria andũ a Benjamini gũkuhĩ na Gibea.
37 The men in ambush rushed suddenly against Gibeah; they advanced and put the whole city to the sword.
Nao andũ acio moohetie andũ makĩguthũka o rĩmwe magĩtoonya Gibea, makĩaragana kuo na makĩhũũra itũũra rĩu inene rĩothe na rũhiũ rwa njora.
38 The men of Israel had arranged a signal with the men in ambush: When they sent up a great cloud of smoke from the city,
Nao andũ a Isiraeli nĩ mabangĩte na andũ acio moohetie andũ atĩ matoogie ndogo nene ĩthiĩ na igũrũ yumĩte itũũra rĩu inene,
39 the men of Israel would turn in the battle. When the Benjamites had begun to strike them down, killing about thirty men of Israel, they said, “They are defeated before us as in the first battle.”
nĩgeetha hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ a Isiraeli magarũrũke na macooke mbaara-inĩ. Andũ a Benjamini maakorirwo maambĩrĩria kũũraga andũ a Isiraeli (ta andũ mĩrongo ĩtatũ), nao makiuga atĩrĩ, “Ithuĩ nĩtũramatooria o ta ũrĩa twamekire mbaara-inĩ ya mbere.”
40 But when the column of smoke began to go up from the city, the Benjamites looked behind them and saw the whole city going up in smoke.
No rĩrĩa ndogo yambĩrĩirie kwambata na igũrũ yumĩte itũũra-inĩ rĩu inene-rĩ, andũ a Benjamini makĩĩhũgũra makĩona ndogo itũũra-inĩ rĩu inene rĩothe yambatĩte na igũrũ matu-inĩ.
41 Then the men of Israel turned back on them, and the men of Benjamin were terrified when they realized that disaster had come upon them.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo andũ a Isiraeli makĩmagarũrũkĩra nao andũ a Benjamini makĩnyiitwo nĩ guoya mũnene, nĩ ũndũ nĩmakũũranire atĩ mwanangĩko nĩwarĩĩkĩtie kũmakora.
42 So they fled before the men of Israel toward the wilderness, but the battle overtook them, and the men coming out of the cities struck them down there.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio makĩũrĩra andũ a Isiraeli marorete na werũ-inĩ, no matingĩahotire kũũrĩra mbaara. Nao andũ a Isiraeli arĩa mookire moimĩte matũũra-inĩ makĩmooragĩra kuo.
43 They surrounded the Benjamites, pursued them, and easily overtook them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east.
Magĩthiũrũrũkĩria andũ a Benjamini acio, makĩmatengʼeria, na makĩmakinyĩra na njĩra hũthũ kũu gũkuhĩ na Gibea mwena wa irathĩro.
44 And 18,000 Benjamites fell, all men of valor.
Andũ a Benjamini ngiri ikũmi na inyanya magĩkua, nao othe maarĩ arũi njamba.
45 Then the Benjamites turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and Israel cut down 5,000 men on the roads. And they overtook them at Gidom and struck down 2,000 more.
Na rĩrĩa maagarũrũkire marorete na werũ-inĩ nginya ihiga-inĩ rĩa Rimoni, andũ a Isiraeli makĩũragĩra andũ 5,000 njĩra-inĩ icio. Nao magĩkĩrĩrĩria kũrũmĩrĩra andũ a Benjamini o nginya Gidomu na makĩũraga 2,000.
46 That day 25,000 Benjamite swordsmen fell, all men of valor.
Mũthenya ũcio andũ a Benjamini 25,000 arĩa maarũaga na hiũ cia njora makĩũragwo, na othe maarĩ arũi njamba.
47 But 600 men turned and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, where they stayed four months.
No andũ magana matandatũ makĩgarũrũka na makĩũrĩra werũ-inĩ o nginya ihiga-inĩ rĩa Rimoni, na magĩikara kuo mĩeri ĩna.
48 And the men of Israel turned back against the other Benjamites and put to the sword all the cities, including the animals and everything else they found. And they burned down all the cities in their path.
Nao andũ a Isiraeli magĩcooka nginya bũrũri wa andũ a Benjamini na makĩhũũra matũũra mothe na rũhiũ rwa njora, o gwata nyamũ na kĩndũ o gĩothe kĩngĩ kĩrĩa maakorereire. Na matũũra mothe marĩa maakorire makĩmacina na mwaki.
