< Judges 20 >
1 Then all the Israelites from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out, and the congregation assembled as one man before the LORD at Mizpah.
Ndipo Aisraeli onse kuyambira ku dziko la Dani mpaka ku Beeriseba ndiponso ku dziko la Giliyadi ananyamuka ngati munthu mmodzi nakasonkhana pamaso pa Yehova ku Mizipa.
2 The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of God’s people: 400,000 men on foot, armed with swords.
Atsogoleri a anthu onse ndi a mafuko onse Aisraeli anali nawo pa msonkhano wa anthu a Mulungu. Onse pamodzi analipo asilikali oyenda pansi 400,000 atanyamula malupanga.
3 (Meanwhile the Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites asked, “Tell us, how did this wicked thing happen?”
Anthu a fuko la Benjamini anali atamva kuti Aisraeli apita ku Mizipa. Tsono Aisraeli anati, “Tiwuzeni, zinthu zoyipa izi zinachitika bwanji.”
4 So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered: “I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night.
Choncho Mlevi uja, mwamuna wa mkazi wophedwa uja anayankha nati, “Ine ndinapita ku Gibeya mʼdziko la Benjamini pamodzi ndi mzikazi wanga kuti tikagone kumeneko.
5 And during the night, the men of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house. They intended to kill me, but they abused my concubine, and she died.
Usiku anthu a ku Gibeya anandiwukira, nazinga nyumba munali ine. Ankafuna kundipha ndipo anagona ndi mzikazi wanga momukakamiza mpaka anafa.
6 Then I took my concubine, cut her into pieces, and sent her throughout the land of Israel’s inheritance, because they had committed a lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
7 Behold, all you Israelites, give your advice and verdict here and now.”
Ndi zimenezotu inu Aisraeli nonse; yankhulaponi mawu ndi kupereka maganizo anu.”
8 Then all the people stood as one man and said, “Not one of us will return to his tent or to his house.
Anthu onse anayimirira ngati munthu mmodzi nanena kuti, “Palibe mmodzi wa ife amene apite ku nyumba kwake. Palibe amene abwerere ku nyumba kwake.
9 Now this is what we will do to Gibeah: We will go against it as the lot dictates.
Koma tsopano chimene ife tichite ndi dziko la Gibeya ndi ichi: Tidzapita kukamenyana nawo potsatira zimene maere anene.
10 We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to punish them for the atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
Mʼmafuko onse a Aisraeli tidzasankha anthu khumi pa anthu 100 aliwonse: ndiye kuti anthu 100 pa anthu 1,000 aliwonse kapena anthu 1,000 pa anthu 10,000 aliwonse. Anthu amenewa adzasonkhanitsa zakudya za ankhondo, ndipo ankhondowo adzapita kukalipsira anthu a ku Geba mʼdziko la Benjamini chifukwa chochita chinthu chonyansa chotere mʼdziko la Israeli.”
11 So all the men of Israel gathered as one man, united against the city.
Choncho anthu a ku Israeli anasonkhana pamodzi nagwirizana chimodzi, kukalimbana ndi mzindawo.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
Mafuko a Israeli anatumiza anthu kwa fuko lonse la Benjamini kukafunsa kuti, “Kodi zoyipa zachitika pakati panuzi ndi zotani?
13 Hand over the wicked men of Gibeah so we can put them to death and purge Israel of this evil.” But the Benjamites refused to heed the voice of their fellow Israelites.
Tsono tikuti mutipatse anthu achabechabe a ku Gibeya kuti tiwaphe kuti tichotse chinthu choyipachi mʼdziko la Israeli.” Koma fuko la Benjamini silinafune kumvera zimene ananena Aisraeli anzawo.
14 And from their cities they came together at Gibeah to go out and fight against the Israelites.
Mʼmalo mwake, Abenjaminiwo anatuluka mʼmizinda yawo ku Gibeya kukamenyana ndi Aisraeli.
15 On that day the Benjamites mobilized 26,000 swordsmen from their cities, in addition to the 700 select men of Gibeah.
Tsiku limenelo Abenjamini anasonkhanitsa kuchokera ku mizinda yawo ankhondo 26,000 amalupanga awo, osawerengera anthu ena 700 a ku Gibeya amene anasankhidwa.
16 Among all these soldiers there were 700 select left-handers, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair without missing.
Mwa onsewa panali ankhondo 70 amanzere amene aliyense anali wodziwa kulasa ngakhale tsitsi limodzi ndi mwala osaphonya.
17 The Israelites, apart from Benjamin, mobilized 400,000 swordsmen, each one an experienced warrior.
Aisraeli, kupatula fuko la Benjamini, anasonkhanitsa anthu 400,000 a malupanga, onse odziwa bwino nkhondo.
18 The Israelites set out, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God, “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” “Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.
Ndipo Aisraeli ananyamuka kupita ku Beteli kukafunsira kwa Mulungu. Iwo anati, “Ndani mwa ife amene angayambe kukamenyana ndi fuko la Benjamini?” Yehova anayankha kuti, “Fuko la Yuda ndilo liyambe.”
19 The next morning the Israelites set out and camped near Gibeah.
Mmawa mwake Israeli ananyamuka nakamanga msasa moyangʼanana ndi Gibeya.
20 And the men of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin and took up their battle positions at Gibeah.
Aisraeli anapita kukachita nkhondo ndi fuko la Benjamini ndipo anandandalika ankhondo awo moyangʼanana ndi Gibeya.
21 And the Benjamites came out of Gibeah and cut down 22,000 Israelites on the battlefield that day.
A fuko la Benjamini anatuluka ku Gibeya ndipo tsiku limenelo anapha Aisraeli 22,000 ku nkhondoko.
22 But the Israelite army took courage and again took their battle positions in the same place where they had arrayed themselves on the first day.
Koma ankhondo a Israeli analimbikitsananso mtima ndipo anasonkhanitsanso kachiwiri ankhondo awo pa malo pamene anawandandalika poyamba paja.
23 They went up and wept before the LORD until evening, inquiring of Him, “Should we again draw near for battle against our brothers the Benjamites?” And the LORD answered, “Go up against them.”
Aisraeli anapita kukalira pamaso pa Yehova mpaka madzulo. Iwo anafunsa Yehova kuti, “Kodi tipitenso kukamenyana ndi a fuko la Benjamini abale athu?” Yehova anayankha kuti, “Pitani mukalimbane nawo.”
24 On the second day the Israelites advanced against the Benjamites.
Ndipo Aisraeli anayandikiranso pafupi ndi fuko la Benjamini tsiku lachiwiri lake kuti amenyane nawo.
25 That same day the Benjamites came out against them from Gibeah and cut down another 18,000 Israelites, all of them armed with swords.
Pa tsiku lachiwiri lomwelo Abenjamini anatulukanso mu mzinda wa Gibeya ndipo anaphanso ankhondo 18,000. Onse amene anawaphawo anali odziwa kugwiritsa ntchito bwino malupanga.
26 Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel, where they sat weeping before the LORD. That day they fasted until evening and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.
Tsono Aisraeli onse, gulu lonse la ankhondo, anapita ku Beteli kukalira pamaso pa Yehova. Anakhala pansi nasala zakudya tsiku lonse mpaka madzulo. Anapereka nsembe zopsereza ndi nsembe zachiyanjano pamaso pa Yehova.
27 And the Israelites inquired of the LORD. (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there,
Bokosi la Chipangano cha Yehova linali kumeneko.
28 and Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, served before it.) The Israelites asked, “Should we again go out to battle against our brothers the Benjamites, or should we stop?” The LORD answered, “Fight, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
Finehasi mwana wa Eliezara mwana wa Aaroni ndiye ankatumikira nthawi imeneyo. Tsono Aisraeli anafunsa Yehova kuti, “Kodi tipitenso kukachita nkhondo ndi mʼbale athu Abenjamini, kapena ayi?” Yehova anayankha kuti, “Pitaninso chifukwa mawa ndidzawapereka mʼmanja mwanu.”
29 So Israel set up an ambush around Gibeah.
Choncho Aisraeli anayika anthu obisalira mozungulira Gibeya.
30 On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.
Tsiku lachitatu anapita kukamenyana ndi Benjamini ndipo anayika ankhondo mʼmalo mwawo kuti amenyane ndi Gibeya monga anachitira poyamba.
31 The Benjamites came out against them and were drawn away from the city. They began to attack the people as before, killing about thirty men of Israel in the fields and on the roads, one of which led up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.
Abenjamini anatuluka kukamenyana nawo anthuwo ndipo anapita kutali ndi mzindawo. Iwo anayamba kupha Aisraeli monga poyamba paja, kotero kuti anapha anthu pafupifupi makumi atatu. Mitembo ya ena inali mu misewu yayikulu yopita ku Beteli ndi ku Gibeya, ndipo ina inali kwina poyera.
32 “We are defeating them as before,” said the Benjamites. But the Israelites said, “Let us retreat and draw them away from the city onto the roads.”
Abenjamini ankanena kuti, “Tikuwagonjetsa monga poyamba.” Koma Aisraeli ankanena kuti, “Tiyeni tithawe kuti apite ku msewu chapatali ndi mzinda wawo.”
33 So all the men of Israel got up from their places and arrayed themselves at Baal-tamar, and the Israelites in ambush charged from their positions west of Gibeah.
Choncho Aisraeli onse anachoka mʼmalo mwawo ndi kukandanda ku Baala-Tamara, ndipo Aisraeli obisalira aja anatuluka mʼmalo awo kummawa kwa Geba.
34 Then 10,000 select men from all Israel made a frontal assault against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not realize that disaster was upon them.
Aisraeli osankhidwa 10,000 ndiwo anabwera kudzalimbana ndi mzinda wa Gibeya. Nkhondoyo inafika poyipa kwambiri mwakuti Abenjamini samadziwa kuti zoopsa zili pafupi kuwagwera.
35 The LORD defeated Benjamin in the presence of Israel, and on that day the Israelites slaughtered 25,100 Benjamites, all armed with swords.
Tsono Yehova anagonjetsa Abenjamini pamaso pa Israeli motero kuti Aisraeli anapha ankhondo a Abenjamini 25,100 tsiku limenelo.
36 Then the Benjamites realized they had been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the ambush they had set against Gibeah.
Choncho Abenjamini anaona kuti agonjetsedwa. Paja Aisraeli anathawa fuko la Benjamini chifukwa ankadalira anthu amene anawayika kuti abisalire mzinda wa Gibeya.
37 The men in ambush rushed suddenly against Gibeah; they advanced and put the whole city to the sword.
Tsono anthu amene anabisala aja anachita changu kuwuthira nkhondo mzinda wa Gibeyawo. Ndipo anapha anthu onse a mu mzindawo ndi lupanga.
38 The men of Israel had arranged a signal with the men in ambush: When they sent up a great cloud of smoke from the city,
Chizindikiro chimene Aisraeli anapangana ndi anthu obisalira aja chinali chakuti obisalira aja akangofukiza utsi wambiri ngati mtambo mu mzindamo,
39 the men of Israel would turn in the battle. When the Benjamites had begun to strike them down, killing about thirty men of Israel, they said, “They are defeated before us as in the first battle.”
ndiye kuti Aisraeli enawo abwerere ku nkhondo. Pa nthawiyo nʼkuti Abenjamini atayamba kale kumenya Aisraeliwo kwambiri ndi kupha pafupifupi anthu makumi atatu. Ndipo iwo ankanena kuti, “Ndithu tawapha monga poyamba paja.”
40 But when the column of smoke began to go up from the city, the Benjamites looked behind them and saw the whole city going up in smoke.
Koma pamene utsi wa chizindikiro uja unayamba kukwera tolotolo mmwamba kuchoka mu mzindamo, Abenjamini anayangʼana mʼmbuyo ndipo anangoona utsi mu mzinda onse uli tolotolo kukwera mmwamba.
41 Then the men of Israel turned back on them, and the men of Benjamin were terrified when they realized that disaster had come upon them.
Kenaka Aisraeli anabwerera ndipo Abenjamini anachita mantha, chifukwa anaona kuti zoopsa zili pafupi kuwagwera.
42 So they fled before the men of Israel toward the wilderness, but the battle overtook them, and the men coming out of the cities struck them down there.
Choncho anathawa pamaso pa Aisraeli kudzera njira ya ku chipululu, koma nkhondo inawapeza. Ndipo anaphedwa kumeneko ndi Aisraeli amene anachokera mu mzindamo.
43 They surrounded the Benjamites, pursued them, and easily overtook them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east.
Anawazungulira Abenjaminiwo, nawathamangitsa ndi kuwagonjetseratu osawachitira chifundo mpaka ku dera la kummawa kwa Gibeya.
44 And 18,000 Benjamites fell, all men of valor.
Abenjamini 18,000 olimba mtima anaphedwa.
45 Then the Benjamites turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and Israel cut down 5,000 men on the roads. And they overtook them at Gidom and struck down 2,000 more.
Koma ena anatembenuka nathawira ku chipululu ku thanthwe la Rimoni. Mwa iwowa Aisraeli anapha Abenjamini 5,000 mʼmisewu yayikulu. Anawapitikitsabe Abenjaminiwo mpaka kufika ku Gidomu ndi kuphanso ena 2,000.
46 That day 25,000 Benjamite swordsmen fell, all men of valor.
Pa tsiku limenelo Abenjamini olimba mtima okhala ndi malupanga okwana 25,000 anafa.
47 But 600 men turned and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, where they stayed four months.
Koma anthu 700 anabwerera ndi kuthawira ku chipululu ku thanthwe la Rimoni kumene anakhalako miyezi inayi.
48 And the men of Israel turned back against the other Benjamites and put to the sword all the cities, including the animals and everything else they found. And they burned down all the cities in their path.
Aisraeli anabwerera kukamenyana ndi Abenjamini otsala ndi kuwapha ndi lupanga kuphatikizapo ziweto ndi zonse anali nazo. Ndipo anayatsa moto mizinda yonse anayipeza.
