Judges 12

1 Then the men of Ephraim assembled and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah, “Why have you crossed over to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down with you inside!”

OR gli Efraimiti, adunatisi a grida, passarono verso il Settentrione, e dissero a Iefte: Perchè sei tu passato per combattere contro a' figliuoli di Ammon, e non ci hai chiamati per andar teco? noi bruceremo col fuoco la tua casa, e te insieme.

2 But Jephthah replied, “My people and I had a serious conflict with the Ammonites, and when I called, you did not save me out of their hands.

E Iefte disse loro: Il mio popolo ed io abbiamo avuta gran contesa co' figliuoli di Ammon; ed io v'ho chiamati, ma voi non mi avete liberato dalle lor mani.

3 When I saw that you would not save me, I risked my life and crossed over to the Ammonites, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come today to fight against me?”

Laonde, veggendo che voi non [mi] liberavate, io ho messa la mia vita nella palma della mia mano, e son passato agli Ammoniti; e il Signore me li ha dati nelle mani; perchè dunque siete voi oggi saliti a me, per farmi guerra?

4 Jephthah then gathered all the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. And the men of Gilead struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, “You Gileadites are fugitives in Ephraim, living in the territories of Ephraim and Manasseh.”

E Iefte adunò tutti i Galaaditi, e combattè contro ad Efraim; e i Galaaditi percossero Efraim; perciocchè dicevano: Voi [siete] degli scampati di Efraim; Galaad [è] in mezzo di Efraim e di Manasse.

5 The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a fugitive from Ephraim would say, “Let me cross over,” the Gileadites would ask him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he answered, “No,”

E i Galaaditi occuparono i passi del Giordano a que' di Efraim; e quando alcuno di que' di Efraim che scampavano diceva: [Lascia] ch'io passi, i Galaaditi gli dicevano: [Sei] tu di Efraim? E s'egli diceva:

6 they told him, “Please say Shibboleth.” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce it correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. So at that time 42,000 Ephraimites were killed.

No, [i Galaaditi] gli dicevano: Deh! di' Scibbolet; ma egli diceva: Sibbolet; e non accertava a profferir dirittamente. Ed essi lo prendevano, e lo scannavano a' passi del Giordano. Così in quel tempo caddero [morti] di Efraim quarantaduemila [uomini].

7 Jephthah judged Israel six years, and when he died, he was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

E Iefte Galaadita giudicò Israele sei anni; poi morì, e fu seppellito nella città di Galaad.

8 After Jephthah, Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

E, DOPO lui, Ibsan, da Bet-lehem, giudicò Israele.

9 He had thirty sons, as well as thirty daughters whom he gave in marriage to men outside his clan; and for his sons he brought back thirty wives from elsewhere. Ibzan judged Israel seven years.

Ed ebbe trenta figliuoli, e mandò fuori trenta figliuole [a marito], a menò trenta fanciulle di fuori a' suoi figliuoli [per mogli]; e giudicò Israele sett'anni.

10 Then Ibzan died, and he was buried in Bethlehem.

Poi Ibsan morì, e fu seppellito in Bet-lehem.

11 After Ibzan, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel ten years.

E, dopo lui, Elon Zabulonita fu Giudice d'Israele; e giudicò Israele dieci anni.

12 Then Elon the Zebulunite died, and he was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

Poi Elon Zabulonita morì, e fu seppellito in Aialon, nel paese di Zabulon.

13 After Elon, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, judged Israel.

E, dopo lui, Abdon, figliuolo di Hillel, Piratonita, giudicò Israele.

14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. And he judged Israel eight years.

Ed ebbe quaranta figliuoli, e trenta figliuoli di figliuoli, i quali cavalcavano settant'asinelli; e giudicò Israele ott'anni.

15 Then Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, died, and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

Poi Abdon, figliuolo di Hillel, Piratonita, morì, e fu seppellito in Piraton, nel paese di Efraim, nel monte degli Amalechiti.
