Joshua 4
1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
Sobald das ganze Volk den Jordan vollends überschritten hatte, sprach der Herr zu Josue:
2 “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe,
"Wählt euch aus dem Volke zwölf Männer, je einen Mann aus einem Stamme,
3 and command them: ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests were standing, carry them with you, and set them down in the place where you spend the night.’”
und weiset sie also an: 'Nehmt euch zwölf Steine von hier, gerade aus des Jordans Mitte, von diesem Platz, auf dem der Priester Füße stehen, schafft sie mit euch hinüber und legt sie an den Ort, wo ihr heute nächtigen wollt!'"
4 So Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe,
Da berief Josue die zwölf Männer, die er aus den Israeliten bestellt hatte, je einen Mann aus einem Stamm.
5 and said to them, “Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of Israel,
Und Josue sprach zu ihnen: "Geht vor die Lade des Herrn, eures Gottes, mitten in den Jordan und ladet euch jeder einen Stein auf seine Schulter nach der Zahl der Stämme Israels.
6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
Dies sei ein Merkzeichen unter euch! Fragen später eure Kinder: 'Was bedeuten euch diese Steine?'
7 you are to tell them, ‘The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters were cut off.’ Therefore these stones will be a memorial to the Israelites forever.”
dann sagt ihnen: 'Sie bedeuten, daß das Jordanwasser vor der Bundeslade des Herrn verschwunden ist, als sie in den Jordan kam. Das Wasser des Jordan ist verschwunden, und diese Steine dienen den Israeliten zum ewigen Gedenken.'"
8 Thus the Israelites did as Joshua had commanded them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each tribe of Israel, just as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them to the camp, where they set them down.
Die Israeliten taten so, wie Josue befahl. Sie nahmen zwölf Steine mitten aus dem Jordan, wie der Herr zu Josue gesagt, nach der Zahl der israelitischen Stämme, schafften sie mit sich in das Nachtlager hinüber und legten sie dort nieder.
9 Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood. And the stones are there to this day.
Zwölf andere Steine hatte Josue mitten im Jordan niederlegen lassen an der Stelle, wo die Füße der Priester stehen sollten, der Träger der Bundeslade. Sie blieben dort bis auf diesen Tag.
10 Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until the people had completed everything the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell them, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried across,
Die Priester aber, die Träger der Lade, standen mitten im Jordan, bis alles ausgeführt war, was der Herr den Josue geheißen hatte, dem Volke zu sagen, gemäß dem Befehle Mosis an Josue. Das Volk aber zog rasch hinüber.
11 and after everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
Erst als das ganze Volk vollends hinüber war, zog auch die Lade des Herrn hinüber, und die Priester stellten sich an die Spitze des Volkes.
12 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over before the Israelites, armed for battle as Moses had instructed them.
Die Rubeniten, die Gaditen und der Halbstamm Manasse zogen geordnet vor den Israeliten hinüber, wie ihnen Moses befohlen hatte.
13 About 40,000 troops armed for battle crossed over before the LORD into the plains of Jericho.
An 40.000 kriegsbereite Männer zogen vor dem Herrn nach Jerichos Steppe in den Kampf.
14 On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they revered him all the days of his life, just as they had revered Moses.
An jenem Tage hatte der Herr den Josue verherrlicht in ganz Israels Augen, und sie fürchteten ihn sein Leben lang, wie sie Moses gefürchtet hatten.
15 Then the LORD said to Joshua,
Der Herr aber sprach zu Josue:
16 “Command the priests who carry the ark of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan.”
"Befiehl den Priestern, den Trägern der Lade des Zeugnisses, sie sollen aus dem Jordan steigen."
17 So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up from the Jordan.”
Da befahl Josue den Priestern: "Steigt aus dem Jordan!"
18 When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
So stiegen die Priester, die Träger der Bundeslade des Herrn, aus dem Jordanbett. Kaum aber berührten der Priester Fußsohlen das Trockene, so nahm das Wasser des Jordan wieder den natürlichen Lauf und trat wie vorher über all seine Ufer.
19 On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
Das Volk aber stieg am zehnten Tage des ersten Monats aus dem Jordan und lagerte im Gilgal an Jerichos Ostgrenze.
20 And there at Gilgal Joshua set up the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.
Jene zwölf Steine aber, die sie aus dem Jordan genommen, stellte Josue im Gilgal auf.
21 Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’
Er sprach zu den Israeliten: "Fragen später eure Kinder ihre Väter: 'Was bedeuten diese Steine?',
22 you are to tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
so Iehret eure Kinder: 'Israel ist hier trockenen Fußes über den Jordan gezogen',
23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as He did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over.
weil der Herr, euer Gott, das Jordanwasser vor euch hatte vertrocknen lassen, bis ihr hinüber waret, wie der Herr, euer Gott, mit dem Schilfmeer getan, das er vor uns vertrocknen ließ, bis wir hinüber waren,
24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God.”
damit alle Völker der Erde einsehen, daß des Herrn Hand stark ist, und daß sie so den Herrn, euren Gott, allzeit fürchten."
