Joshua 24
1 Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.
Josué congregó a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem. Convocó a los ancianos de Israel, sus jefes, sus jueces y sus oficiales, y comparecieron ante ʼElohim.
2 And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.
Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: Yavé ʼElohim de Israel dice: Al otro lado del Río habitaron antiguamente sus antepasados: Taré, padre de Abraham y de Nacor. Ellos servían a otros ʼelohim.
3 But I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I multiplied his descendants. I gave him Isaac,
Pero Yo tomé a su antepasado Abraham de la otra parte del Río, hice que anduviera por toda la tierra de Canaán, multipliqué su descendencia y le di a Isaac.
4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau Mount Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
A Isaac le di a Jacob y a Esaú. A Esaú le di la región montañosa de Seír para que la poseyera, pero Jacob y sus hijos bajaron a Egipto.
5 Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.
Luego envié a Moisés y a Aarón y herí con plagas a Egipto, según lo que hice en medio de él. Después los saqué de allí.
6 When I brought your fathers out of Egypt and you reached the Red Sea, the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.
Saqué a sus antepasados de Egipto, y llegaron al mar. Los egipcios persiguieron a sus antepasados con carruajes y con jinetes hasta el mar Rojo.
7 So your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
Entonces clamaron a Yavé y Él puso oscuridad entre ustedes y los egipcios. Echó el mar sobre ellos y los cubrió. Los ojos de ustedes vieron lo que hice en Egipto. Por muchos días estuvieron en el desierto.
8 Later, I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should possess their land when I destroyed them before you.
Después los introduje en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban en la otra parte del Jordán. Lucharon contra ustedes, pero los entregué en sus manos. Poseyeron su tierra, y los destruí de delante de ustedes.
9 Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,
Luego se levantó Balac, hijo de Zipor, rey de los moabitas, y peleó contra Israel, y envió a llamar a Balaam, hijo de Beor, para que los maldijera.
10 but I would not listen to Balaam. So he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.
Pero no quise escuchar a Balaam, y él tuvo que bendecirlos. Los libré de su mano.
11 After this, you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I delivered them into your hand.
Luego cruzaron el Jordán y llegaron a Jericó. Los hombres de Jericó pelearon contra ustedes. También el amorreo, el ferezeo, el cananeo, el heteo, el gergeso, el heveo y el jebuseo, pero Yo los entregué en mano de ustedes.
12 I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your own sword or bow.
Envié también delante de ustedes el avispón que echó de delante de ustedes a los dos reyes de los amorreos, pero no con tu espada, ni con tu arco.
13 So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
Les di una tierra por la cual no se fatigaron, ciudades que no edificaron en las cuales viven, y comen de viñedos y olivares que no plantaron.
14 Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
Ahora, pues, teman a Yavé y sírvanle con integridad y en verdad. Aparten los ʼelohim a los cuales sus antepasados sirvieron en la otra parte del río y en Egipto, y sirvan a Yavé.
15 But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
Si mal les parece servir a Yavé, escojan hoy a quién sirvan: si a los ʼelohim a quienes sus antepasados sirvieron cuando estuvieron al otro lado del Río, o a los ʼelohim del amorreo en cuya tierra viven, pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Yavé.
16 The people replied, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!
Entonces el pueblo respondió: ¡Lejos esté de nosotros abandonar a Yavé para servir a otros ʼelohim!
17 For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
Porque Yavé nuestro ʼElohim es Quien nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados de la tierra de Egipto, de casa de esclavitud, Quien hizo estas grandes señales ante nuestros ojos y nos guardó por todo el camino en el cual anduvimos, y entre todos los pueblos por los cuales pasamos.
18 And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!”
Por cuanto Yavé echó de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos y a los amorreos que habitaban en esta tierra, nosotros también serviremos a Yavé, porque Él es nuestro ʼElohim.
19 But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins.
Pero Josué objetó al pueblo: No podrán servir a Yavé, porque es un ʼElohim santo, un ʼElohim celoso. No cargará sus transgresiones y sus pecados.
20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.”
Cuando abandonen a Yavé para servir a ʼelohim extraños, Él se volverá y les hará el mal. Los consumirá, después del bien que les hizo.
21 “No!” replied the people. “We will serve the LORD!”
Pero el pueblo dijo a Josué: No, en verdad serviremos a Yavé.
22 Then Joshua told them, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “We are witnesses!” they said.
Entonces Josué respondió al pueblo: Ustedes son testigos contra ustedes mismos en cuanto a que se eligieron a Yavé para servirle. Ellos respondieron: ¡Somos testigos!
23 “Now, therefore,” he said, “get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.”
¡Aparten, pues, los ʼelohim extraños que hay entre ustedes, e inclinen su corazón hacia Yavé ʼElohim de Israel!
24 So the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice.”
Y el pueblo respondió a Josué: ¡A Yavé nuestro ʼElohim serviremos y obedeceremos!
25 On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he established for them a statute and ordinance.
Así Josué pactó alianza con el pueblo en aquel día y le estableció Estatutos y Decretos en Siquem.
26 Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.
Luego Josué escribió estas palabras en el Rollo de la Ley de ʼElohim. Y tomó una gran piedra y la erigió allí, debajo del roble que estaba junto al Santuario de Yavé.
27 And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”
Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: Ciertamente esta piedra será testigo contra nosotros, pues ella oyó todas las palabras que Yavé nos dijo. Será, pues, testigo contra ustedes para que no renieguen de su ʼElohim.
28 Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.
Luego Josué despidió al pueblo y mandó a cada uno a su heredad.
29 Some time later, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
Después de estas cosas, sucedió que murió Josué, hijo de Nun, esclavo de Yavé, a la edad de 110 años.
30 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
Lo sepultaron en el límite de su heredad en Timnat-sera, que está en la región montañosa de Efraín, al norte de la montaña Gaas.
31 Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.
Israel sirvió a Yavé todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué y que conocían toda la obra que Yavé hizo por Israel.
32 And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.
Los huesos de José, que los hijos de Israel habían subido de Egipto, fueron sepultados en Siquem, en la porción del campo que Jacob compró de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, por 100 monedas, y así quedó en posesión de los hijos de José.
33 Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, también murió, y lo sepultaron en la colina de su hijo Finees, que le fue dada en la región montañosa de Efraín.
