< Jonah 2 >

1 From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God,
Ko ia naʻe lotu ai ʻa Siona kia Sihova ko hono ʻOtua mei he kete ʻoe ika.
2 saying: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me. From the belly of Sheol I called for help, and You heard my voice. (Sheol h7585)
‌ʻO ne pehē, “Naʻaku tangi ʻi heʻeku mamahi kia Sihova, naʻa ne ongoʻi au; naʻaku tangi mei he loto faʻitoka, pea naʻa ke ongoʻi hoku leʻo. (Sheol h7585)
3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.
He ko koe naʻa ke lī au ki he loloto, ki loto tahi; naʻaku ʻi he loto moana: pea naʻe melemo hifo au ʻi hoʻo ngaahi ngalu pea mo hoʻo ngaahi peau.
4 At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’
Ko ia ne u pehē ai, ‘kuo liʻaki atu au mei ho ʻao; ka neongo ia, te u toe sio ki ho fale tapu māʻoniʻoni.’
5 The waters engulfed me to take my life; the watery depths closed around me; the seaweed wrapped around my head.
Naʻe kāpui au ʻe he ngaahi vai, ʻio, ʻo aʻu ki hoku laumālie: naʻe kāpui takatakai au ʻe he loloto, naʻe takatakai ʻae limu ʻi hoku ʻulu.
6 To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me barred me in forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!
Naʻaku ʻalu hifo ki he tefito ʻoe ngaahi moʻunga: pea naʻe takatakai au ʻe he mālohi ʻoe māmani ʻo taʻengata; ka neongo ia, kuo ke ʻomi ʻa ʻeku moʻui mei he fakaʻauha, ʻe Sihova ko hoku ʻOtua.
7 As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple.
“ʻI heʻene pongia hoku laumālie ʻiate au naʻaku manatu kia Sihova; pea naʻe ʻaʻau atu kiate koe ʻa ʻeku kole, ki ho ʻafioʻanga māʻoniʻoni.
8 Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion.
Ko kinautolu ʻoku tokanga ki he ngaahi vaʻinga loi, ʻoku nau siʻaki pe ʻekinautolu ʻa honau ʻalo ʻofeina.
9 But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”
Ka ko au te u feilaulau ʻaki kiate koe ʻae leʻo ʻoe fakafetaʻi; te u fai ʻaia kuo u fuakava ki ai. ʻOku meia Sihova ʻae fakamoʻui.”
10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova ki he ika, pea naʻa ne puʻaki atu ʻa Siona ki he fonua mōmoa.
