Job 28
1 “Surely there is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined.
Na verdade, ha veia d'onde se tira a prata, e para o oiro logar em que o derretem.
2 Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore.
O ferro se toma do pó, e da pedra se funde o metal.
3 Man puts an end to the darkness; he probes the farthest recesses for ore in deepest darkness.
Elle poz fim ás trevas, e toda a extremidade elle esquadrinha, a pedra da escuridão e da sombra da morte.
4 Far from human habitation he cuts a shaft in places forgotten by the foot of man. Far from men he dangles and sways.
Trasborda o ribeiro junto ao que habita ali, de maneira que se não possa passar a pé: então se esgota do homem, e as aguas se vão.
5 Food may come from the earth, but from below it is transformed as by fire.
Da terra procede o pão, e debaixo d'ella se converte como em fogo.
6 Its rocks are the source of sapphires, containing flecks of gold.
As suas pedras são o logar da saphira, e tem pósinhos d'oiro.
7 No bird of prey knows that path; no falcon’s eye has seen it.
Vereda que ignora a ave de rapina, e que não viu os olhos da gralha.
8 Proud beasts have never trodden it; no lion has ever prowled over it.
Nunca a pisaram filhos d'animaes altivos, nem o feroz leão passou por ella.
9 The miner strikes the flint; he overturns mountains at their base.
Estendeu a sua mão contra o rochedo, e transtorna os montes desd'as suas raizes.
10 He hews out channels in the rocks, and his eyes spot every treasure.
Dos rochedos faz sair rios, e o seu olho viu tudo o que ha precioso.
11 He stops up the sources of the streams to bring what is hidden to light.
Os rios tapa, e nem uma gotta sae d'elles, e tira á luz o que estava escondido.
12 But where can wisdom be found, and where does understanding dwell?
Porém d'onde se achará a sabedoria? e onde está o logar da intelligencia?
13 No man can know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living.
O homem não sabe a sua valia, e não se acha na terra dos viventes.
14 The ocean depths say, ‘It is not in me,’ while the sea declares, ‘It is not with me.’
O abysmo diz: Não está em mim: e o mar diz: Ella não está comigo.
15 It cannot be bought with gold, nor can its price be weighed out in silver.
Não se dará por ella oiro fino, nem se pesará prata em cambio d'ella.
16 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire.
Nem se pode comprar por oiro fino d'Ophir, nem pelo precioso onyx, nem pela saphira.
17 Neither gold nor crystal can compare to it, nor jewels of fine gold be exchanged for it.
Com ella se não póde comparar o oiro nem o crystal; nem se dá em troca d'ella joia d'oiro fino.
18 Coral and quartz are unworthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies.
Não se fará menção de coral nem de perolas; porque o desejo da sabedoria é melhor que o dos rubins.
19 Topaz from Cush cannot compare to it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
Não se lhe igualará o topazio de Cus, nem se póde comprar por oiro puro.
20 From where then does wisdom come, and where does understanding dwell?
D'onde pois vem a sabedoria? e onde está o logar da intelligencia?
21 It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing and concealed from the birds of the air.
Porque está encoberta aos olhos de todo o vivente, e occulta ás aves do céu.
22 Abaddon and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor about it.’
A perdição e a morte dizem: Ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos a sua fama.
23 But God understands its way, and He knows its place.
Deus entende o seu caminho, e elle sabe o seu logar.
24 For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
Porque elle vê as extremidades da terra; e vê tudo o que ha debaixo dos céus:
25 When God fixed the weight of the wind and measured out the waters,
Dando peso ao vento, e tomando a medida das aguas.
26 when He set a limit for the rain and a path for the thunderbolt,
Prescrevendo lei para a chuva e caminho para o relampago dos trovões.
27 then He looked at wisdom and appraised it; He established it and searched it out.
Então a viu e relatou, a preparou, e tambem a esquadrinhou.
28 And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
Porém disse ao homem: Eis que o temor do Senhor é a sabedoria, e apartar-se do mal, a intelligencia.
