Jeremiah 36
1 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Et il arriva dans la quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, que cette parole fut adressée à Jérémie par le Seigneur, disant:
2 “Take a scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you concerning Israel, Judah, and all the nations, from the day I first spoke to you during the reign of Josiah until today.
Prends un rouleau de livre et tu y écriras toutes les paroles que je t’ai dites contre Israël, et contre Juda, et contre tous les peuples, depuis le jour où je t’ai parlé, depuis les jours de Josias, jusqu’à ce jour;
3 Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Pour voir si par hasard, la maison de Juda apprenant tous les maux que moi je pense leur faire, chacun reviendra de ses voies très mauvaises; et je lui pardonnerai son iniquité et son péché.
4 So Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah, and at the dictation of Jeremiah, Baruch wrote on a scroll all the words that the LORD had spoken to Jeremiah.
Jérémie appela donc Baruch, fils de Nérias, et Baruch écrivit, sorties de la bouche de Jérémie sur un rouleau de livre, toutes les paroles que le Seigneur lui avait dites.
5 Then Jeremiah commanded Baruch, “I am restricted; I cannot enter the house of the LORD;
Et Jérémie ordonna à Baruch, disant: Moi je suis enfermé, et je ne puis entrer dans la maison du Seigneur.
6 so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the scroll you have written at my dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
Entre donc, toi, et lis d’après le rouleau dans lequel tu as écrit, sorties de ma bouche, les paroles du Seigneur, le peuple entendant dans la maison du Seigneur, au jour de jeûne; de plus tous ceux de Juda qui viennent de leurs cités entendant, tu les leur liras;
7 Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each one will turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people.”
Pour voir si par hasard leur prière tombera devant le Seigneur, et s’ils reviendront chacun de sa voie très mauvaise; parce que grande est la fureur et l’indignation avec laquelle a parlé le Seigneur contre son peuple.
8 So Baruch son of Neriah did everything that Jeremiah the prophet had commanded him. In the house of the LORD he read the words of the LORD from the scroll.
Et Baruch, fils de Nérias, fit selon tout ce que lui avait ordonné Jérémie, le prophète, lisant dans le rouleau les paroles du Seigneur, dans la maison du Seigneur.
9 Now in the ninth month of the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, a fast before the LORD was proclaimed to all the people of Jerusalem and all who had come there from the cities of Judah.
Or il arriva en la cinquième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, dans le neuvième mois, qu’on publia un jeûne en présence du Seigneur, pour tout le peuple dans Jérusalem et pour toute la multitude qui avait afflué des cités de Juda dans Jérusalem.
10 From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, which was in the upper courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD, Baruch read from the scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the people.
Et Baruch lut dans le rouleau les paroles de Jérémie dans la maison du Seigneur, dans la chambre du trésor de Gamarias, fils de Saphan, le scribe, dans le vestibule supérieur, à l’entrée de la porte neuve de la maison du Seigneur, tout le peuple entendant.
11 When Micaiah son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the scroll,
Et lorsque Michée, fils de Gamarias, fils de Saphan, eut entendu toutes les paroles du Seigneur écrites dans le livre,
12 he went down to the scribe’s chamber in the king’s palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials.
Il descendit dans la maison du roi, en la chambre du trésor du scribe; et voilà que là tous les princes étaient assis: Elisama le Scribe, et Dalaïas, fils de Séméias, et Elnathan, fils d’Achobor, et Gamarias, fils de Saphan, et Sédécias, fils d’Hananias, et tous les princes.
13 And Micaiah reported to them all the words he had heard Baruch read from the scroll in the hearing of the people.
Et Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu’il avait entendues de Baruch, lisant dans le rouleau aux oreilles du peuple.
14 Then all the officials sent word to Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come here.” So Baruch son of Neriah took the scroll and went to them.
C’est pourquoi tous les princes envoyèrent à Baruch Judi, fils de Nathanias, fils de Sélémias, fils de Chusi, disant: Prends en ta main le rouleau que tu as lu, le peuple entendant, et viens. Baruch, fils de Nérias, prit donc le rouleau en sa main, et vint à eux.
15 “Please sit down,” they said, “and read it in our hearing.” So Baruch read it in their hearing.
Et ils lui dirent: Assieds-toi, et lis ces choses à nos oreilles. Et Baruch lut à leurs oreilles.
16 When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
Ainsi, lorsqu’ils eurent entendu toutes les paroles, ils se regardèrent les uns les autres avec étonnement, et ils dirent à Baruch: Nous devons rapporter au roi toutes ces paroles.
17 “Tell us now,” they asked Baruch, “how did you write all these words? Was it at Jeremiah’s dictation?”
Et ils l’interrogèrent, disant: Déclare-nous comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles sorties de la bouche de Jérémie.
18 “It was at his dictation,” Baruch replied. “He recited all these words to me and I wrote them in ink on the scroll.”
Or Baruch leur dit: Il me disait de sa bouche toutes ces paroles comme s’il les avait lues; et moi je les écrivais dans le rouleau avec de l’encre.
19 Then the officials said to Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must hide yourselves and tell no one where you are.”
Et les princes dirent à Baruch: Va, et cache-toi, ainsi que Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous serez.
20 So the officials went to the king in the courtyard. And having stored the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, they reported everything to the king.
Et ils entrèrent chez le roi dans le vestibule; quant au rouleau, ils l’avaient déposé dans la chambre du trésor d’Elisama, le scribe, et ils rapportèrent, le roi entendant, toutes les paroles.
21 Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing beside him.
Et le roi envoya Judi afin de prendre le rouleau; lequel l’ayant pris de la chambre du trésor d’Elisama, le scribe, le lut, le roi entendant, ainsi que tous les princes qui étaient autour du roi.
22 Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters with a fire burning before him.
Or le roi était assis dans sa maison d’hiver au neuvième mois; et un brasier était placé devant lui, plein de charbons ardents.
23 And as soon as Jehudi had read three or four columns, Jehoiakim would cut them off with a scribe’s knife and throw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll had been consumed by the fire.
Lorsque Judi eut lu trois ou quatre pages, le roi coupa le rouleau avec le canif du scribe, et le jeta dans le feu qui était sur le brasier, jusqu’à ce que le volume entier fût consumé par le feu qui était dans le brasier.
24 Yet in hearing all these words, the king and his servants did not become frightened or tear their garments.
Et le roi et tous ses serviteurs qui entendirent toutes ces paroles, ne craignirent pas, et ne déchirèrent pas leurs vêtements.
25 Even though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.
Mais cependant Elnathan et Dalaïas et Gamarias, s’opposèrent au roi, afin qu’il ne brûlât point le livre; et il ne les écouta point.
26 Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
Et le roi ordonna à Jérémiel, fils d’Amélech, et à Saraïas, fils d’Ezriel, et à Sélémias, fils d’Abdéel, de prendre Baruch, le scribe, et Jérémie, le prophète; mais le Seigneur les cacha.
27 After the king had burned the scroll containing the words that Baruch had written at Jeremiah’s dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, après que le roi eut brûlé le rouleau et les paroles que Baruch avait écrites et qui étaient sorties de la bouche de Jérémie, disant:
28 “Take another scroll and rewrite on it the very words that were on the original scroll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah has burned.
Reprends un autre rouleau, et écris-y toutes les paroles qui étaient dans le premier rouleau qu’a brûlé Joakim, roi de Juda.
29 You are to proclaim concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah that this is what the LORD says: You have burned the scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of man and beast?’
Et à Joakim, roi de Juda, tu diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tu as brûlé ce rouleau, disant: Pourquoi as-tu écrit dans ce livre en publiant: Soudain viendra le roi de Babylone, et il dévastera cette terre et il en fera disparaître l’homme et la bête?
30 Therefore this is what the LORD says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne, and his body will be thrown out and exposed to heat by day and frost by night.
À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur contre Joakim, roi de Juda: Il n’y aura pas de lui de prince qui s’assiéra sur le trône de David; et son cadavre sera jeté à la chaleur du jour et à la gelée de la nuit.
31 I will punish him and his descendants and servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the calamity about which I warned them but they did not listen.”
Et je visiterai contre lui, et contre sa race, et contre ses serviteurs, leurs iniquités; et j’amènerai sur eux et sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les hommes de Juda tout le mal que je leur ai annoncé, et ils ne m’ont pas entendu.
32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s dictation he wrote on it all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
Or Jérémie prit un autre rouleau et le donna à Baruch, fils de Nérias, le scribe, qui y écrivit, sorties de la bouche de Jérémie, toutes les paroles qui étaient dans le livre qu’avait brûlé Joakim, roi de Juda; et il y ajouta en outre beaucoup plus de paroles qu’il n’y en avait auparavant.
