< Jeremiah 13 >
1 This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and buy yourself a linen loincloth and put it around your waist, but do not let it touch water.”
ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻAlu ʻo toʻo kiate koe ʻae noʻo ʻoe tupenu lelei, pea ʻai ia ki ho kongaloto, pea ʻoua naʻa tuku ia ki he vai.”
2 So I bought a loincloth as the LORD had instructed me, and I put it around my waist.
Pea naʻaku toʻo ʻae noʻo ʻo ʻai ia ki hoku kongaloto, ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova.
3 Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time:
Pea naʻe hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ko hono liunga ua, ʻo pehē,
4 “Take the loincloth that you bought and are wearing, and go at once to Perath and hide it there in a crevice of the rocks.”
“Toʻo ʻae noʻo ʻaia ʻoku ʻiate koe, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi ho kongaloto, pea ke tuʻu, ʻo ʻalu ki ʻIufaletesi, pea fakafufū ia ʻi he ʻanaʻi maka.”
5 So I went and hid it at Perath, as the LORD had commanded me.
Pea ne u ʻalu ʻo fakafufū ia, ʻo ofi ki ʻIufaletesi, ʻo hangē ko e fekau ʻa Sihova.
6 Many days later the LORD said to me, “Arise, go to Perath, and get the loincloth that I commanded you to hide there.”
Pea naʻe hoko, ʻo pehē, ʻi he hili ʻae ngaahi ʻaho lahi, naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “Tuʻu, pea ke ʻalu ki ʻIufaletesi, pea toʻo mei ai ʻae noʻo, ʻaia naʻaku fekau ke ke fakafufū ʻi ai.”
7 So I went to Perath and dug up the loincloth, and I took it from the place where I had hidden it. But now it was ruined—of no use at all.
Pea ne u ʻalu ki ʻIufaletesi, mo keli, pea toʻo mai ʻae noʻo mei he potu ne u fakafufū ai ia: pea vakai, kuo maumauʻi ʻae noʻo, pea naʻe ʻikai siʻi ʻaonga ia.
8 Then the word of the LORD came to me:
Pea naʻe hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
9 “This is what the LORD says: In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
“ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Te u maumauʻi pehē ʻae fielahi ʻa Siuta, pea mo e laukau lahi ʻa Selūsalema.
10 These evil people, who refuse to listen to My words, who follow the stubbornness of their own hearts, and who go after other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
Ko e kakai kovi ni, ʻoku nau fakaongo tuli ki heʻeku ngaahi lea, pea ʻeveʻeva ʻi he mahalo vaʻinga ʻo honau loto, pea muimui ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻo tauhi ʻakinautolu, pea lotu kiate kinautolu: te nau hangē ko e noʻo ni, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai siʻi ʻaonga.
11 For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s waist, so I have made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to Me, declares the LORD, so that they might be My people for My renown and praise and glory. But they did not listen.
Koeʻuhi hangē ʻoku pipiki ʻae noʻo ki he kongaloto ʻoe tangata, naʻe pehē ʻeku fakapipiki kiate au ʻae fale kotoa ʻo ʻIsileli, pea mo e fale kotoa ʻo Siuta, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova: koeʻuhi ke nau hoko kiate au ko e kakai, mo e hingoa, mo e fakamālō mo e nāunau: ka naʻa nau fakaongotuli pe.”
12 Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’
“Ko ia ke ke lea ʻaki ʻae lea ni kiate kinautolu: ‘ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻE fakapito ʻaki ʻae uaine ʻae hina kotoa pē: pea te nau pehē kiate koe, ʻIkai ʻoku mau ʻilo pau ʻe fakapito ʻaki ʻae uaine ʻae hina kotoa pē.
13 then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with drunkenness all who live in this land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem.
Pea te ke toki lea pehē kiate kinautolu, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, Vakai, te u fakapito ʻaki ʻae kona, ʻae kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua ni, ʻio, ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻoku nofo ʻi he nofoʻanga fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻo Tevita, mo e kau taulaʻeiki, pea mo e kau palōfita, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē ʻo Selūsalema.
14 I will smash them against one another, fathers and sons alike, declares the LORD. I will allow no mercy or pity or compassion to keep Me from destroying them.’”
Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, Te u fakafetēleni ke laiki ʻakinautolu, ko e ngaahi tamai ki he ngaahi foha: ʻE ʻikai te u ʻofa, pe fakamoʻui, pe fai ʻaloʻofa, ka ʻe fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu.”
15 Listen and give heed. Do not be arrogant, for the LORD has spoken.
Mou fanongo, mo tokanga; pea ʻoua naʻa fielahi: he kuo folofola ʻa Sihova.
16 Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He turns it into deep gloom and thick darkness.
Mou fakaongoongoleleiʻi ʻa Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, ʻi he teʻeki ai te ne fakatupu ʻae fakapoʻuli, pea ʻi he teʻeki ai ke tūkia homou vaʻe ʻi he ngaahi moʻunga ʻoe fakapoʻuli, pea lolotonga hoʻomou ʻamanaki ki he maama, te ne liliu ia ko e poʻuli matolu, pea mo e malumalu ʻoe mate.
17 But if you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, because the LORD’s flock has been taken captive.
Pea kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou fanongo ki ai ʻe tangi hoku laumālie ʻi he ngaahi potu lilo koeʻuhi ko hoʻomou fielahi; pea ʻe tangi lahi hoku mata, pea ʻe tafe hifo ʻae ngaahi loʻimata, koeʻuhi kuo ʻave fakapōpula ʻae fanga sipi ʻa Sihova.
18 Say to the king and to the queen mother: “Take a lowly seat, for your glorious crowns have fallen from your heads.”
Ke ke lea ki he tuʻi mo e tuʻi fefine, Mo fakavaivai ʻakimoua, ʻo nofo hifo: he te ne tō hifo mei homo ʻulu ʻae tatā ʻo homo nāunau.
19 The cities of the Negev have been shut tight, and no one can open them. All Judah has been carried into exile, wholly taken captive.
ʻE tāpuni ʻae ngaahi kolo ʻi he feituʻu tonga, pea ʻe ʻikai toʻo ʻe ha taha: ʻE fetuku fakapōpula ʻa Siuta kātoa; ʻe ʻave ia kotoa pē ʻo fakapōpulaʻi.
20 Lift up your eyes and see those coming from the north. Where is the flock entrusted to you, the sheep that were your pride?
Hanga hake homou mata, ʻo mamata kiate kinautolu kuo haʻu mei he tokelau: ko e fē ʻae fanga sipi naʻe tuku kiate koe, ko hoʻo fanga sipi matamatalelei?
21 What will you say when He sets over you close allies whom you yourself trained? Will not pangs of anguish grip you, as they do a woman in labor?
Ko e hā te ke lea ʻaki ʻoka tautea ʻe ia ʻa koe? He kuo ke akonakiʻi ʻakinautolu ke nau ʻeiki, mo pule kiate koe: ʻikai te ke moʻua ʻi he ngaahi mamahi, ʻo hangē ko e langā ʻae fefine?
22 And if you ask yourself, “Why has this happened to me?” It is because of the magnitude of your iniquity that your skirts have been stripped off and your body has been exposed.
Pea kapau te ke pehē ʻi ho loto, Ko e hā kuo hoko ai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate au? Ko e meʻa ʻi hono lahi ʻo hoʻo hia, ko ia kuo fakatelefuaʻi koe, kuo fakatelefua ʻa ho mui vaʻe.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Neither are you able to do good— you who are accustomed to doing evil.
ʻE faʻa liliu ʻe he ʻItiopea hono kili, pe ko e lēpati hono pulepule? Pea te mou toki faʻa fai lelei foki, ʻakimoutolu ʻoku maheni ai ʻi he fai kovi.
24 “I will scatter you like chaff driven by the desert wind.
Ko ia te u fakamovetevete ai ʻakimoutolu ʻo hangē ko e mohuku ʻoku ʻave ʻe he matangi ki he toafa.
25 This is your lot, the portion I have measured to you,” declares the LORD, “because you have forgotten Me and trusted in falsehood.
Ko ho ʻinasi eni, ko ho vahe kuo fuofua meiate au, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; koeʻuhi kuo ke fakangalongaloʻi au, mo ke falala ki he loi.
26 So I will pull your skirts up over your face, that your shame may be seen.
Ko ia te u fakatelefuaʻi koe, ke hā mai ai hoʻo mā.
27 Your adulteries and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution on the hills and in the fields— I have seen your detestable acts. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you remain unclean?”
Kuo u mamata ki hoʻo tonotangata, mo hoʻo holi, mo hono lahi ʻo hoʻo feʻauaki, mo hoʻo fai fakalielia ʻi he ngaahi moʻunga mo e ngoue. ʻE malaʻia koe, ʻE Selūsalema! ʻOku ʻikai te ke fie maʻa? ʻE hoko fakakū ia?”
