Jeremiah 12
1 Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
Tu as la justice pour toi, Éternel, quand je plaide contre toi, cependant je dois te prendre à partie. Pourquoi la voie des impies est-elle heureuse, pourquoi les perfides infidèles vivent-ils tranquilles?
2 You planted them, and they have taken root. They have grown and produced fruit. You are ever on their lips, but far from their hearts.
Tu les as plantés, ils ont pris racine, ils croissent, et portent du fruit. Tu es près de leur bouche, et loin de leur cœur.
3 But You know me, O LORD; You see me and test my heart toward You. Drag away the wicked like sheep to the slaughter and set them apart for the day of carnage.
Mais, Éternel, tu me connais, tu me vois, et tu éprouves ce que mon cœur est pour toi. Entraîne-les comme des brebis à la tuerie, et dévoue-les pour la journée du carnage.
4 How long will the land mourn and the grass of every field be withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He cannot see what our end will be.”
Jusques à quand le pays sera-t-il dans le deuil, et l'herbe de toute la campagne sera-t-elle desséchée? A cause de la méchanceté des habitants, les quadrupèdes et les oiseaux ont disparu. Car ils disent: Il ne verra pas notre fin.
5 “If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in a peaceful land, how will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?
« Si tu cours avec des piétons et qu'ils te fatiguent, comment lutteras-tu avec des cavaliers? Et tu as de l'assurance dans un pays en paix! mais que feras-tu dans [les bois, ] l'orgueil du Jourdain?
6 Even your brothers— your own father’s household— even they have betrayed you; even they have cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.
Car même tes frères et la maison de ton père, même eux te haïssent, même eux ils crient après toi: Il a assez vécu! Ne les crois pas, quand même ils te diraient de bonnes paroles! »
7 I have forsaken My house; I have abandoned My inheritance. I have given the love of My life into the hands of her enemies.
« J'ai quitté ma maison, j'ai fait abandon de mon héritage; j'ai livré l'amour de mon âme aux mains de ses ennemis.
8 My inheritance has become to Me like a lion in the forest. She has roared against Me; therefore I hate her.
Mon héritage a été envers moi comme un lion dans la forêt; il pousse contre moi ses rugissements, c'est pourquoi je le hais.
9 Is not My inheritance to Me like a speckled bird of prey with other birds of prey circling against her? Go, gather all the beasts of the field; bring them to devour her.
Mon héritage est pour moi une bête farouche, une hyène; aussi les bêtes farouches le cerneront. Sus! rassemblez toutes les bêtes des champs, amenez-les à la curée!
10 Many shepherds have destroyed My vineyard; they have trampled My plot of ground. They have turned My pleasant field into a desolate wasteland.
Des bergers nombreux dévastent ma vigne, foulent mon domaine, font de mon délicieux domaine un désert inculte.
11 They have made it a desolation; desolate before Me, it mourns. All the land is laid waste, but no man takes it to heart.
On en fait une désolation; désolé, il est en deuil de moi; tout le pays est désolé, parce que personne n'est rentré en lui-même.
12 Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
Franchissant toutes les collines du désert, les dévastateurs arrivent, car l'épée de l'Éternel dévore le pays d'un bout à l'autre bout; il n'y a de salut pour rien de ce qui est chair.
13 They have sown wheat but harvested thorns. They have exhausted themselves to no avail. Bear the shame of your harvest because of the fierce anger of the LORD.”
Ils ont semé du froment, et ils moissonnent des ronces: ils se sont épuisés, et ils n'ont aucun profit. Soyez donc confus de vos récoltes à cause de la colère de l'Éternel qui s'est allumée! »
14 This is what the LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to uproot them from their land, and I will uproot the house of Judah from among them.
Ainsi prononce l'Éternel sur tous mes méchants voisins, qui se sont attaqués à mon héritage que j'ai donné en propre à mon peuple d'Israël. Voici, je vais les arracher de leur pays, et je vais arracher la maison de Juda du milieu d'eux.
15 But after I have uprooted them, I will once again have compassion on them and return each one to his inheritance and to his land.
Mais, après que je les aurai arrachés, je reprendrai pitié d'eux, et je les ramènerai chacun dans son héritage, et chacun dans son pays.
16 And if they will diligently learn the ways of My people and swear by My name, saying, ‘As surely as the LORD lives’—just as they once taught My people to swear by Baal—then they will be established among My people.
Et, s'ils apprennent les voies de mon peuple, de telle sorte qu'ils jurent par mon nom, « par la vie de l'Éternel! » de même qu'ils enseignèrent à mon peuple à jurer par Baal, ils feront partie de l'édifice de mon peuple.
17 But if they will not obey, then I will uproot that nation; I will uproot it and destroy it, declares the LORD.”
Mais, s'ils n'obéissent pas, j'extirperai un tel peuple, je l'extirperai et le détruirai, dit l'Éternel.
