Galatians 4
1 What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he is the owner of everything.
Ich sage aber so: so lange der Erbe unmündig ist, ist kein Unterschied zwischen ihm und einem Knechte, obwohl ihm alles gehört,
2 He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father.
sondern er ist unter Vormündern und Verwaltern bis zu der vom Vater verordneten Zeit.
3 So also, when we were children, we were enslaved under the basic principles of the world.
So ist es mit uns: so lange wir unmündig waren, waren wir geknechtet unter die Elemente der Welt.
4 But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
Als aber die Erfüllung der Zeit kam, da sandte Gott seinen Sohn, geboren vom Weibe, unter das Gesetz gethan,
5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive our adoption as sons.
damit er die unter dem Gesetze loskaufe, damit wir die Sohnschaft empfiengen.
6 And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Weil ihr aber Söhne seid, hat Gott den Geist seines Sohnes ausgesandt in unsere Herzen, der da ruft: Abba, Vater.
7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, you are also an heir through God.
So bist du nun nicht mehr Knecht, sondern Sohn. Wenn aber Sohn, dann auch Erbe durch Gott.
8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
Aber damals, da ihr Gott nicht kanntet, habt ihr den Göttern gedient, die es dem Wesen nach nicht sind.
9 But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
Jetzt, da ihr Gott kennt, oder vielmehr von ihm erkannt seid, wie möget ihr wieder umkehren zu den unvermögenden armseligen Elementen, denen ihr wieder von vorne zu dienen Lust habt?
10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!
Tage haltet ihr und Monate, Festzeiten und Jahre?
11 I fear for you, that my efforts for you may have been in vain.
Ich fürchte, ich möchte umsonst an euch gearbeitet haben.
12 I beg you, brothers, become like me, for I became like you. You have done me no wrong.
Werdet wie ich; ich bin was ihr seid; Brüder, ich bitte euch. Einst habt ihr mir nichts Leids gethan.
13 You know that it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you.
Vielmehr ihr wisset es, wie ich aus Anlaß leiblicher Schwachheit das erstemal bei euch das Evangelium verkündete,
14 And although my illness was a trial to you, you did not despise or reject me. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus Himself.
da habt ihr die Prüfung, die euch durch mein Fleisch zu Teil ward, nicht mit Geringschätzung und Abscheu erwidert, sondern ihr habt mich wie einen Boten Gottes aufgenommen, wie Christus Jesus.
15 What then has become of your blessing? For I can testify that, if it were possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.
Wo ist nun euer Seligkeitsrühmen? kann ich euch doch bezeugen, daß ihr womöglich euch die Augen ausgerissen hättet, sie mir zu geben.
16 Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
So bin ich wohl euer Feind geworden, weil ich wahr bin gegen euch?
17 Those people are zealous for you, but not in a good way. Instead, they want to isolate you from us, so that you may be zealous for them.
O sie eifern nicht im guten um euch; nein, sie möchten euch hinausbannen, damit ihr für sie eifert.
18 Nevertheless, it is good to be zealous if it serves a noble purpose—at any time, and not only when I am with you.
Der Eifer im guten aber soll allezeit lebendig sein; er soll es nicht blos sein, wenn ich bei euch bin.
19 My children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,
Meine Kinder, um die ich abermals Geburtsschmerzen leide, bis Christus möge in euch Gestalt gewinnen:
20 how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you.
ich möchte wohl jetzt bei euch sein, und es in neuen Tönen versuchen; ich weiß nicht, wie ich es bei euch angreifen muß.
21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, do you not understand what the law says?
Sagt mir doch, die ihr unter dem Gesetze sein wollt, hört ihr denn das Gesetz nicht?
22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.
Es steht ja geschrieben: daß Abraham zwei Söhne hatte, einen von der Magd, und einen von der Freien.
23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born through the promise.
Aber der von der Magd war fleischmäßig gezeugt, der von der Freien aber durch die Verheißung.
24 These things serve as illustrations, for the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery: This is Hagar.
Das ist allegorisch gesagt. Es bedeutet die zwei Bündnisse, das eine vom Berge Sinai, das zur Knechtschaft zeugt, das ist Hagar;
25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.
Hagar bedeutet den Berg Sinai in Arabien. Das entspricht dem jetzigen Jerusalem; denn dieses ist in Knechtschaft samt seinen Kindern.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.
Das obere Jerusalem aber ist frei, das ist unsere Mutter.
27 For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have never travailed; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”
Denn es steht geschrieben: Freue dich, du unfruchtbare, die nicht gebiert; brich in Jubel aus, die nicht kreist; denn die einsame hat viele Kinder, mehr als die, die einen Mann hat.
28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.
Ihr aber, Brüder, seid nach Isaak Kinder der Verheißung.
29 At that time, however, the son born by the flesh persecuted the son born by the Spirit. It is the same now.
Aber wie damals der nach dem Fleisch Gezeugte den nach dem Geist Gezeugten verfolgte, so auch jetzt.
30 But what does the Scripture say? “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”
Aber was sagt die Schrift? Wirf die Magd hinaus und ihren Sohn, denn der Sohn der Magd soll nicht erben mit dem Sohne der Freien.
31 Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.
Also, Brüder, wir sind nicht der Magd Kinder, sondern der Freien.
