< Ezekiel 18 >

1 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa tún tọ̀ mí wá wí pé:
2 “What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge’?
“Kín ni ẹ̀yin rò tí ẹ̀yin fi ń pa òwe nípa Israẹli wí pé: “‘Àwọn baba ti jẹ èso àjàrà kíkan, eyín àwọn ọmọ sì kan.’
3 As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.
“Bí mo ti wà láààyè ni Olúwa Olódùmarè wí, ẹ̀yin kí yóò pa òwe yìí mọ́ ni Israẹli.
4 Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
Nítorí pé èmi ló ní gbogbo ọkàn, ọkàn baba tèmi bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ọkàn ọmọ pàápàá jẹ tèmi, ọkàn tó bá ṣẹ̀ ní yóò kú.
5 Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:
“Bí ọkùnrin olódodo kan bá wà, tó ń ṣe ohun tó tọ́, tó sì yẹ
6 He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her period.
tí kò bá wọn jẹun lórí òkè gíga, tí kò gbójú rẹ̀ sókè sí àwọn òrìṣà ilẹ̀ Israẹli, ti kò sì ba obìnrin aládùúgbò rẹ̀ jẹ́ tàbí kí ó sùn ti obìnrin ni àsìkò èérí rẹ̀.
7 He does not oppress another, but restores the pledge to the debtor. He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
Kò sì ni ẹnikẹ́ni lára, ó sì sanwó fún onígbèsè rẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bó ṣe ṣe ìlérí fún un, kò fi ipá jalè ṣùgbọ́n ó fún ẹni tí ebi ń pa ní oúnjẹ, tí ó sì fi ẹ̀wù wọ àwọn tí ó wà ní ìhòhò.
8 He does not engage in usury or take excess interest, but he withholds his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between men.
Ẹni tí kò fi fún ni láti gba ẹ̀dá, tàbí kò gba èlé tó pọ̀jù. Ó yọ ọwọ́ rẹ̀ kúrò nínú ìwà ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, ó sì ń ṣe ìdájọ́ òtítọ́ láàrín ọkùnrin kan àti èkejì rẹ̀.
9 He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live,
Tí ó ń tẹ̀lé àṣẹ mi, tí ó sì ń pa òfin mi mọ́ lóòtítọ́ àti lódodo. Ó jẹ́ olódodo, yóò yè nítòótọ́, ní Olúwa Olódùmarè wí.
10 Now suppose that man has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these things,
“Bí ó bá bi ọmọkùnrin, oníwà ipá, tó ń jalè, tó tún ń pànìyàn, tó sì ń ṣe gbogbo àwọn nǹkan wọ̀nyí sí arákùnrin rẹ̀
11 though the father has done none of them: Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his neighbor’s wife.
(tí kò sì ṣe ọ̀kan nínú gbogbo iṣẹ́ wọ̀n-ọn-nì): “Ó ń jẹun lójúbọ lórí òkè gíga, tí ó sì ba obìnrin aládùúgbò rẹ̀ jẹ́.
12 He oppresses the poor and needy; he commits robbery and does not restore a pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he commits abominations.
Ó ni àwọn tálákà àti aláìní lára, ó ń fipá jalè, kì í dá padà gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìlérí, o gbójú sókè sí òrìṣà, ó sì ń ṣe ohun ìríra.
13 He engages in usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
Ó ń fi owó ya ni pẹ̀lú èlé, ó sì tún ń gba èlé tó pọ̀jù. Ǹjẹ́ irú ọkùnrin yìí wa le è yè bí? Òun kì yóò wá láààyè! Nítorí pé òun ti ṣe àwọn ohun ìríra yìí, kíkú ni yóò kú, ẹ̀jẹ̀ rẹ yóò sì wá lórí rẹ̀.
14 Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
“Bí ọkùnrin yìí bá bímọ ọkùnrin, tó sì rí gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ti baba rẹ ń ṣẹ̀ yìí, tó sì bẹ̀rù, ti kò ṣe irú rẹ̀:
15 He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife.
“Tí kò jẹun lójúbọ lórí òkè gíga tàbí kò gbójú sókè sí àwọn òrìṣà ilé Israẹli, tí kò sì ba obìnrin aládùúgbò rẹ̀ jẹ́
16 He does not oppress another, or retain a pledge, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
tí kò sì ni ẹnikẹ́ni lára, tí kò dá ohun ògo dúró tí kò gba èlé tàbí kò fipá jalè ṣùgbọ́n tí ó ń fún ẹni tébi ń pa lóúnjẹ, tó sì fi aṣọ bo àwọn oníhòhò.
17 He withholds his hand from harming the poor and takes no interest or usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
Ó ń yọ ọwọ́ rẹ kúrò nínú ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, kò sì gba èlé tàbí èlé tó pọ̀jù, tí ó ń pa òfin mi mọ́, tí ó sì ń tẹ̀lé àwọn àṣẹ mi. Kò ní kú fún ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ baba rẹ̀, nítòótọ́ ní yóò yè!
18 As for his father, he will die for his own iniquity, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
Ṣùgbọ́n baba rẹ̀ ni yóò kú fún ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ara rẹ̀, nítorí pé ó jẹ́ arẹ́nijẹ, ó jalè arákùnrin rẹ, ó ṣe ohun tí kò dára láàrín àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀.
19 Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
“Síbẹ̀, ẹ tún ń béèrè pé, ‘Kí ló dé ti ọmọ kò fi ní í ru ẹ̀bi baba rẹ̀?’ Níwọ́n ìgbà tí ọmọ ti ṣe ohun tó tọ́, tó sì yẹ, tó sì ti kíyèsi ara láti pa gbogbo àṣẹ mi mọ́, nítòótọ́ ni pé yóò yè.
20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
Ọkàn tí ó bá ṣẹ̀ ní yóò kú. Ọmọ kò ní í ru ẹ̀bi baba rẹ̀, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni baba náà kò ní ru ẹ̀bi ọmọ rẹ̀. Ìwà rere ènìyàn rere yóò wà lórí rẹ̀, ìwà búburú ti ènìyàn búburú náà la ó kà sí i lọ́rùn.
21 But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
“Ṣùgbọ́n bí ènìyàn búburú bá yípadà kúrò nínú gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀ tó ti dá, tó sì bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí í pa àṣẹ mi mọ́, tó sì ń ṣe ohun tó tọ́ àti ohun tó yẹ, nítòótọ́ ni yóò yè, kò sì ní kú.
22 None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
A kò sì ní rántí gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ tó ti dá tẹ́lẹ̀ láti kà á sí lọ́rùn nítorí tí ìwà òdodo rẹ tó fihàn, yóò yè.
23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?
24 But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
“Ṣùgbọ́n bí ènìyàn rere bá yípadà kúrò ni ọ̀nà òdodo rẹ̀ tó sì ń dẹ́ṣẹ̀, tí ó sì tún ń ṣe àwọn ohun ìríra tí ènìyàn búburú ń ṣe, yóò wa yè bí? A kì yóò rántí ọ̀kankan nínú ìwà rere rẹ̀ mọ́, nítorí ó ti jẹ̀bi ìwà àrékérekè àti ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tó dá, yóò sì kú.
25 Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is it My way that is unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
“Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, ẹ̀yin tún wí pé, ‘Ọ̀nà Olúwa kò gún.’ Gbọ́ nísinsin yìí, ìwọ ilé Israẹli. Ọ̀nà mi ni kò ha gún? Kì í wa ṣé pé ọ̀nà tiyín gan an ni kò gún?
26 If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Bí olódodo ba yípadà kúrò nínú olódodo rẹ̀, tó sì dẹ́ṣẹ̀, yóò ku fún ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀, yóò kú nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tó ti dá.
27 But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
Ṣùgbọ́n bi ènìyàn búburú bá yípadà kúrò nínú ìwà búburú tó ti ṣe, tó sì ṣe ohun tó tọ́ àti ohun tó yẹ, yóò gba ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ là.
28 Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
Nítorí pé ó ronú lórí gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tó ti dá, ó sì yípadà kúrò nínú wọn, nítòótọ́ ni yóò yè; kì yóò sí kú.
29 Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are My ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
Síbẹ̀, ilé Israẹli wí pé, ‘Ọ̀nà Olúwa kò gún.’ Ọ̀nà mi kò ha tọ́ bí ilé Israẹli? Kì í wa ṣe pè ọ̀nà tiyín gan an ni ko gún?
30 Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, so that your iniquity will not become your downfall.
“Nítorí náà, ilé Israẹli, èmi yóò da yín lẹ́jọ́, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọ̀nà ẹnìkọ̀ọ̀kan yín bá ṣe rí ni Olúwa Olódùmarè wí. Ẹ yípadà! Kí ẹ si yí kúrò nínú gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ yín, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ìrékọjá kì yóò jẹ́ ọ̀nà ìṣubú yín.
31 Cast away from yourselves all the transgressions you have committed, and fashion for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?
Ẹ kọ̀ gbogbo ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ti ẹ ti dá sílẹ̀, kí ẹ sì gba ọkàn àti ẹ̀mí tuntun. Nítorí kí ló fi máa kú, ilé Israẹli?
32 For I take no pleasure in anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So repent and live!
Nítorí pé inú mi kò dùn sí ikú ẹnikẹ́ni ni Olúwa Olódùmarè wí. Nítorí náà, ẹ yípadà kí ẹ sì yè!
