< Ezekiel 18 >

1 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
BOEIPA ol he kai taengla ha pawk tih,
2 “What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge’?
“Nangmih te mebang nim? Israel khohmuen ham tah he thuidoeknah na thuidoek uh. ‘Pa rhoek loh thaihkang a caak uh tih, ca rhoek kah a no yaa,’ na ti uh.
3 As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.
Kai tah hingnah ni tite, ka Boeipa Yahovah kah olphong ni. He thuidoeknah neh na thuidoek he nangmih Israel khuiah om voel mahpawh.
4 Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
Hinglu boeih te kamah taengkah ni he. A napa kah hinglu khaw ka taengah tah capa kah hinglu bangla om boeiloeih. Aka tholh tah amah hinglu ni a duek eh.
5 Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:
Hlang he a dueng la a om atah tiktamnah neh duengnah ni a saii.
6 He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her period.
Tlang ah ca pawt tih Israel imkhui kah mueirhol te a mik huel thil pawh. A hui yuu te poeih pawt tih pumom nu taengah mop pawh.
7 He does not oppress another, but restores the pledge to the debtor. He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
Hlang te laibakung kah hnohol vuelvaek pawt tih a huenkoe te a mael tih a rhawth pawt atah, a buh te bungpong taengah a paek tih pumtling te himbai a khuk atah,
8 He does not engage in usury or take excess interest, but he withholds his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between men.
A casai la pae pawt tih dumlai lamloh a puehkan la a loh pawt atah. A kut a poem tih hlang neh hlang laklo ah oltak la tiktamnah a saii atah,
9 He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live,
Ka khosing dongah pongpa tih ka laitloeknah he vai ham a dueng la oltak a ngaithuen atah hing rhoe hing ni. He tah ka Boeipa Yahovah kah olphong ni.
10 Now suppose that man has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these things,
Thii aka hawk dingca loh ca a sak mai tih anunae te khuikah pakhat lamloh a saii khaming.
11 though the father has done none of them: Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his neighbor’s wife.
Te boeih te anih loh saii pawt cakhaw tlang ah a caak tih a hui yuu te a poeih atah,
12 He oppresses the poor and needy; he commits robbery and does not restore a pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he commits abominations.
A huenkoe neh mangdaeng khodaeng a vuelvaek tih hnohol a rhawth pah khaw mael pawh. A mik te mueirhol taengla a huel tih tueilaehkoi te a saii.
13 He engages in usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
A casai la a paek tih a puehkan a loh dongah hing rhoe hing mahpawh. Tueilaehkoi cungkuem he a saii dongah duek rhoe duek vetih a thii te amah soah tla ni.
14 Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
Tedae a ca sak loh a napa kah tholhnah cungkuem a saii te a hmuh ne. A hmuh dae amih bangla a saii moenih.
15 He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife.
Tlang ah ca pawt tih Israel im kah mueirhol te a mik huel thil pawh, a hui yuu te poeih pah pawh.
16 He does not oppress another, or retain a pledge, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
Hlang te vuelvaek pawt tih hnohol te laikoi sak pawh, a huenkoe neh hlang rheth pawh. A buh te bungpong taengla a paek tih pumtling te himbai a khuk.
17 He withholds his hand from harming the poor and takes no interest or usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
Mangdaeng taengah a kut a poem tih a casai neh a puehkan la lo pawh. Ka laitloeknah te a vai tih ka khosing dongah pongpa. Anih tah a napa kah thaesainah dongah te duek pawt vetih hing rhoe hing ni.
18 As for his father, he will die for his own iniquity, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
A napa khaw hnaemtaeknah neh a hnaemtaek tih a manuca kah kutkho a rhawth, a pilnam lakli ah, a then a saii pawt te amah kah thaesainah dongah ni a duek van eh ne.
19 Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
Tedae, “Balae tih pa kah thaesainah te capa loh a phueih pawh,” na ti uh. Ca khaw tiktamnah neh duengnah a saii phoeiah ka khosing boeih te a ngaithuen tih a vai atah hing rhoe hing ni.
20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
Amah tholh ah ni a hinglu a duek eh. Pa kah thaesainah te capa loh phuei pawt vetih capa kah thaesainah te pa loh phuei mahpawh. Aka dueng tah a taengah duengnah om vetih halang, halang tah a taengah halangnah ni a om eh.
21 But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
Halang khaw tholhnah a saii dae a tholhnah cungkuem lamloh mael tih ka khosing te boeih a vai, tiktamnah neh duengnah te a saii atah hing rhoe hing vetih duek mahpawh.
22 None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
A boekoeknah cungkuem a saii te amih soah poek uh mahpawh. Amah kah duengnah a saii dongah hing ni.
23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?
Halang kah dueknah te ka ngaih khaw ka ngaih aya? He tah ka Boeipa Yahovah kah olphong ni. A longpuei lamloh a mael lalah khaw hing aya?
24 But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
Tedae aka dueng khaw a duengnah lamloh mael tih halang loh tueilaehkoi boeih a saii bangla dumlai saii koinih boekoeknah la boe a koek dongah a hing vaengah a duengnah neh duengnah cungkuem a saii khaw a saii la poek uh mahpawh. Amah kah tholhnah a saii dongah amah ni a duek eh.
25 Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is it My way that is unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
Te pataeng, ‘BOEIPA kah longpuei he tiktam pawh,’ na ti. Israel imkhui hnatun laeh na ti uh. Ka longpuei he a tiktam moenih a? A tiktam pawt te nangmih kah longpuei moenih a?
26 If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Aka dueng te a duengnah lamloh mael tih dumlai saii koinih te rhoek dongah amah ni aka duek eh. Amah kah dumlai a saii dongah amah duek ni.
27 But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
Tedae halang khaw a halangnah a saii lamloh mael tih tiktamnah neh duengnah saii koinih a hinglu te hing ni.
28 Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
A hmuh tih a boekoeknah cungkuem a saii lamloh a mael la a mael atah hing rhoe hing vetih duek mahpawh.
29 Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are My ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
Tedae Israel imkhui loh, “Ka Boeipa kah longpuei tiktam pawh,” a ti. Israel imkhui a tiktam pawt te kai longpuei e? Aka tiktam pawt te nangmih kah longpuei moenih a?
30 Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, so that your iniquity will not become your downfall.
Te dongah hlang he a longpuei banglam ni Israel imkhui nangmih te lai kan tloek eh. He tah ka Boeipa Yahovah olphong ni. Yut uh lamtah na boekoek cungkuem lamloh mael uh laeh. Te daengah ni nangmih ham thaesainah hmuitoel la a om pawt eh.
31 Cast away from yourselves all the transgressions you have committed, and fashion for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?
Nangmih kah boekoeknah cungkuem neh boe na koek uh te nangmih taeng lamloh voei uh. Lungbuei thai neh mueihla thai mah namamih ham saii uh. Balae tih Israel imkhui loh na duek uh eh?
32 For I take no pleasure in anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So repent and live!
Dueknah neh a duek te ka ngaih moenih. He tah ka Boeipa Yahovah kah olphong ni. Te dongah yut uh lamtah hing uh laeh,” a ti.
