Ecclesiastes 10
1 As dead flies bring a stench to the perfumer’s oil, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
Las moscas muertas hacen que hieda el perfume del perfumista. Así una pequeña locura al que es estimado como sabio y honorable.
2 A wise man’s heart inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left.
El corazón del sabio se inclina a su derecha, Pero el corazón del necio, a su izquierda.
3 Even as the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking, and he shows everyone that he is a fool.
Aun mientras va de camino le falta cordura al necio. A todos les anuncia que es necio.
4 If the ruler’s temper flares against you, do not abandon your post, for calmness lays great offenses to rest.
Si el temperamento del gobernante se levanta contra ti, No dejes tu lugar, Porque la mansedumbre apacigua grandes ofensas.
5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun— an error that proceeds from the ruler:
Hay un mal que vi bajo el sol Y es prevaleciente entre los hombres:
6 Folly is appointed to great heights, but the rich sit in lowly positions.
El necio encumbrado en muchos lugares exaltados, Y el dotado en lugares humildes.
7 I have seen slaves on horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves.
Vi esclavos a caballo, Y príncipes que andan Como esclavos con pie en tierra.
8 He who digs a pit may fall into it, and he who breaches a wall may be bitten by a snake.
El que cava un hoyo caerá en él, Y al que rompa el cerco lo morderá una serpiente.
9 The one who quarries stones may be injured by them, and he who splits logs endangers himself.
El que corta piedras se lastimará con ellas, Y el que parte leños peligra en ello.
10 If the axe is dull and the blade unsharpened, more strength must be exerted, but skill produces success.
Si el hierro pierde el filo y no le sacan corte, Hay que aplicar más fuerza. La sabiduría tiene la ventaja de dar éxito.
11 If the snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer.
Si la serpiente muerde antes de ser encantada, De nada sirve el encantador.
12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool consume him.
Las palabras del sabio son provechosas, Pero los labios del necio causan su propia ruina.
13 The beginning of his talk is folly, and the end of his speech is evil madness.
Las palabras de su boca comienzan con necedad, Y el fin de su charla es perverso desvarío.
14 Yet the fool multiplies words. No one knows what is coming, and who can tell him what will come after him?
El necio multiplica palabras Aunque nadie sabe lo que va a suceder, Y lo que habrá después de él. ¿Quién se lo dirá?
15 The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.
El trabajo de los necios los fatiga, Porque ni saben cómo ir a la ciudad.
16 Woe to you, O land whose king is a youth, and whose princes feast in the morning.
¡Ay de ti, oh tierra, cuando tu rey es un muchacho, Y tus príncipes banquetean en la mañana!
17 Blessed are you, O land whose king is a son of nobles, and whose princes feast at the proper time— for strength and not for drunkenness.
¡Dichosa tú, oh tierra, cuando tu rey es hijo de nobles, Y tus príncipes comen a su tiempo Para reponer fuerzas Y no para embriagarse!
18 Through laziness the roof caves in, and in the hands of the idle, the house leaks.
Por la pereza se cae el techo, Y por la negligencia de manos la casa tiene goteras.
19 A feast is prepared for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything.
Por placer se hace el banquete. El vino alegra la vida, Y el dinero sirve para todo.
20 Do not curse the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich even in your bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your words, and a winged creature may report your speech.
Ni en tu aposento maldigas al rey, Ni aun en el secreto de tu dormitorio hables mal del rico, Porque un ave del cielo puede llevar tu voz, Y un pájaro en vuelo puede contar el asunto.
