Deuteronomy 6
1 These are the commandments and statutes and ordinances that the LORD your God has instructed me to teach you to follow in the land that you are about to enter and possess,
Et voici les commandements, les statuts et les lois que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, a ordonné de vous enseigner pour que vous les pratiquiez dans le pays où vous allez passer pour le conquérir,
2 so that you and your children and grandchildren may fear the LORD your God all the days of your lives by keeping all His statutes and commandments that I give you, and so that your days may be prolonged.
et afin que tu craignes l'Éternel, ton Dieu, observant tous ses statuts et ses commandements que je te prescris, toi et ton fils et le fils de ton fils, tous les jours de ta vie, afin que tu aies de longs jours.
3 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Écoute donc, Israël, et veille à les pratiquer, afin que tu sois heureux et que vous preniez un grand accroissement, puisque l'Éternel, Dieu de tes pères, t'a promis un pays découlant de lait et de miel.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One.
Écoute, Israël! l'Éternel est notre Dieu, l'Éternel seul.
5 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Aime donc l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta puissance.
6 These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts.
Et aie à cœur toutes ces choses que je te prescris en ce jour.
7 And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Et inculque-les à tes fils, et parles-en, et assis dans ta maison, et cheminant en voyage, et en te couchant et en te levant.
8 Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Attache-les comme un signe à ta main et porte-les comme bandelettes entre tes yeux.
9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.
Inscris-les sur les piliers de ta maison, et à tes portes.
10 And when the LORD your God brings you into the land He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that He would give you—a land with great and splendid cities that you did not build,
Et lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura introduit dans le pays qu'il a juré à tes pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob de te donner, dans de grandes et belles villes que tu n'as point bâties,
11 with houses full of every good thing with which you did not fill them, with wells that you did not dig, and with vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant—and when you eat and are satisfied,
dans des maisons pleines de tous les biens, que tu n'as point remplies, auprès de fontaines creusées que tu n'as point creusées, dans des vignes et des olivaies que tu n'as point plantées, et lorsque tu mangeras et te rassasieras,
12 be careful not to forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
prends garde à toi, de peur d'oublier l'Éternel qui t'a retiré du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
13 Fear the LORD your God, serve Him only, and take your oaths in His name.
Crains l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et le sers, et jure par son nom.
14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you.
Ne suivez pas d'autres dieux parmi les dieux des peuples de vos alentours;
15 For the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God. Otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.
car c'est un Dieu jaloux au milieu de vous, que l'Éternel, notre Dieu; de peur que la colère de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, ne s'allume contre toi et qu'il ne vous fasse disparaître de la surface de la terre.
16 Do not test the LORD your God as you tested Him at Massah.
Ne tentez pas l'Éternel, votre Dieu, comme vous l'avez tenté à Massa;
17 You are to diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God and the testimonies and statutes He has given you.
gardez, gardez les commandements de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et ses ordonnances et ses statuts qu'il t'a prescrits.
18 Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may be well with you and that you may enter and possess the good land that the LORD your God swore to give your fathers,
Et fais ce qui est droit et bien aux yeux de l'Éternel, afin que tu sois heureux et que tu parviennes à faire la conquête du beau pays que l'Éternel promit par serment à tes pères
19 driving out all your enemies before you, as the LORD has said.
et qu'il chasse tous tes ennemis devant toi, comme l'a dit l'Éternel.
20 In the future, when your son asks, “What is the meaning of the decrees and statutes and ordinances that the LORD our God has commanded you?”
Lorsque dans l'avenir ton fils t'interrogera en disant: Qu'est-ce que ces ordonnances, ces statuts et ces lois que vous a prescrites l'Éternel, notre Dieu?
21 then you are to tell him, “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
dis à ton fils: Nous étions esclaves de Pharaon en Egypte et l'Éternel nous a retirés de l'Egypte d'une main forte,
22 Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household.
et l'Éternel a opéré des signes et des prodiges grands et funestes pour l'Egypte, pour Pharaon et pour toute sa maison, sous nos yeux;
23 But He brought us out from there to lead us in and give us the land that He had sworn to our fathers.
et nous, Il nous a retirés de là pour nous amener ici, et nous donner le pays qu'il avait promis par serment à nos pères.
24 And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes and to fear the LORD our God, that we may always be prosperous and preserved, as we are to this day.
Et l'Éternel nous a commandé de pratiquer tous ces statuts, de craindre l'Éternel, notre Dieu, pour être heureux tout le temps de notre vie, ainsi qu'[il arrive] aujourd'hui.
25 And if we are careful to observe every one of these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us, then that will be our righteousness.”
Et ce sera pour nous une justice que de veiller à accomplir tous ces commandements, devant l'Éternel, notre Dieu, ainsi qu'il nous l'a prescrit.
