Deuteronomy 5

1 Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances that I declare in your hearing this day. Learn them and observe them carefully.

மோசே இஸ்ரயேலர் எல்லோரையும் அழைத்துச் சொன்னதாவது: இஸ்ரயேலரே கேளுங்கள், நான் இன்று உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கும் விதிமுறைகளையும் சட்டங்களையும் கேளுங்கள். அவற்றைக் கற்று, அவைகளைப் பின்பற்றும்படி கவனமாயிருங்கள்.

2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.

நமது இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா ஓரேபிலே, நம்முடன் ஒரு உடன்படிக்கை செய்தார்.

3 He did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with all of us who are alive here today.

அவர் அந்த உடன்படிக்கையை யெகோவா நம்முடைய முற்பிதாக்களோடு மட்டும் செய்யவில்லை. இன்று உயிரோடு இருக்கும் நம் அனைவருடனும் அதைச் செய்தார்.

4 The LORD spoke with you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.

யெகோவா மலையின்மேலே நெருப்பின் நடுவில் இருந்து உங்களுடன் முகமுகமாய்ப் பேசினார்.

5 At that time I was standing between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. And He said:

நீங்கள் நெருப்புக்குப் பயந்து மலைக்குமேல் ஏறாதிருந்தபடியால், நான் அவ்வேளையில் யெகோவாவினுடைய வார்த்தையை உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படியாக யெகோவாவுக்கும், உங்களுக்கும் இடையில் நின்றேன். அவர் சொன்னதாவது:

6 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

“அடிமைத்தன நாடாகிய எகிப்திலிருந்து உன்னை வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்த உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா நானே.

7 You shall have no other gods before Me.

“நீ என்னைத்தவிர வேறு தெய்வங்களை உனக்காக வைத்திருக்காதே.

8 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.

நீ உனக்காக எந்தவொரு விக்கிரகத்தையும் செய்யாதே. மேலே வானத்திலும், கீழே பூமியிலும், கீழேயுள்ள தண்ணீரிலும் இருக்கிறவைகளின் உருவத்தில் எந்த விக்கிரகத்தையும் செய்யாதே.

9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

நீ அவற்றை வணங்கவோ வழிபடவோ வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில், உன் இறைவனான யெகோவாவாகிய நான் எனக்குரிய வழிபாட்டைக் குறித்து, வைராக்கியமுடைய இறைவன். என்னை வெறுக்கிறவர்கள் மத்தியில் பெற்றோரின் பாவத்திற்காக மூன்றாம், நான்காம் தலைமுறை மட்டும் அவர்களுடைய பிள்ளைகளைத் தண்டிக்கிறவராயும் இருக்கிறேன்.

10 but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

ஆனால் என்னிடம் அன்பாயிருந்து, என் கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொள்கிறவர்களுக்கோ, ஆயிரம் தலைமுறைகளுக்கும் அன்பு காட்டுகிறவராயும் இருக்கிறேன்.

11 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் பெயரைத் தவறான முறையில் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில், யெகோவா தமது பெயரைத் தவறான முறையில் பயன்படுத்தும் எவனையும் குற்றமற்றவனாகக் கருதமாட்டார்.

12 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.

உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே ஓய்வுநாளைப் பரிசுத்தமாய்க் கைக்கொள்.

13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

ஆறு நாட்களிலும் நீ உழைத்து, உன் வேலைகளையெல்லாம் செய்யலாம்.

14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest as you do.

ஏழாம்நாளோ உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் ஓய்வுநாள். அந்த நாளில் நீ எந்த வேலையையும் செய்யக்கூடாது. நீயோ, உன் மகனோ, உன் மகளோ, உன் வேலைக்காரனோ, வேலைக்காரியோ, உன் எருதோ, கழுதையோ, உன் மிருகங்களில் எதுவோ, உன் பட்டணங்களுக்குள் வாழும் பிறநாட்டினனோ எந்த வேலையையும் செய்யக்கூடாது. நீ ஓய்வெடுப்பதுபோலவே உன் வேலைக்காரனும், வேலைக்காரியும் ஓய்வெடுக்கவேண்டும்.

15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the LORD your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

நீ எகிப்திலே அடிமையாக இருந்தாய் என்றும், உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா தமது வல்லமையான கையினாலும், நீட்டப்பட்ட கரத்தினாலும் அங்கிருந்து உன்னை மீட்டு, வெளியே கொண்டுவந்தார் என்றும் ஞாபகத்தில் வைத்துக்கொள். அதினாலேயே உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா ஓய்வுநாளை நீ கைக்கொள்ளும்படி உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறார்.

16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறபடியே உன் தகப்பனையும், உன் தாயையும் கனம்பண்ணு, அப்பொழுது உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உனக்குக் கொடுக்கும் நாட்டிலே நீ நீடித்து வாழ்ந்து நலமாயிருப்பாய்.

17 You shall not murder.

கொலைசெய்ய வேண்டாம்.

18 You shall not commit adultery.

விபசாரம் செய்யவேண்டாம்.

19 You shall not steal.

களவு செய்யவேண்டாம்.

20 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

உன் அயலானுக்கு எதிராகப் பொய்ச்சாட்சி சொல்லாதே.

21 You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

உன் அயலானுடைய மனைவியை அபகரிக்க ஆசைகொள்ளாதே. உன் அயலானுடைய வீட்டையோ, நிலத்தையோ வேலைக்காரனையோ, வேலைக்காரியையோ, அவனுடைய எருதையோ, கழுதையையோ, அவனுக்குச் சொந்தமான வேறு எதையுமோ அபகரிக்க ஆசைகொள்ளாதே.”

22 The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice to your whole assembly out of the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness on the mountain; He added nothing more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

மேகமும், காரிருளும் சூழ்ந்த அந்த மலையின்மேல், நெருப்பின் நடுவிலிருந்து உங்கள் முழு சபையாருக்கும் உரத்த குரலில் யெகோவா அறிவித்த கட்டளைகள் இவையே; அவற்றுடன் அவர் எதையும் கூட்டவில்லை. அவர் அக்கட்டளைகளை இரண்டு கற்பலகைகளில் எழுதி, அவற்றை என்னிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்.

23 And when you heard the voice out of the darkness while the mountain was blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me,

அந்த மலை நெருப்புப் பற்றி எரியும்பொழுது, இருளிலிருந்து உண்டான குரலை நீங்கள் கேட்டீர்கள். அப்போது உங்கள் கோத்திரங்களின் தலைவர்களும் உங்கள் சபைத்தலைவர்களும் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து சொன்னதாவது:

24 and you said, “Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.

“எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா தமது மகிமையையும் மகத்துவத்தையும் எங்களுக்குக் காட்டியிருக்கிறார். நாங்கள் நெருப்பிலிருந்து வருகிற அவர் குரலைக் கேட்டோம். இறைவன் ஒரு மனிதனோடு பேசிய பின்பும் அவன் உயிரோடிருப்பான் என்பதை இன்று கண்டோம்.

25 But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.

ஆனாலும் இப்பொழுது ஏன் நாங்கள் சாகவேண்டும்? இந்தப் பெரிய நெருப்பு எங்களை எரித்து அழித்துவிடும். தொடர்ந்து நாங்கள் எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் குரலைக் கேட்டால், நாங்கள் இறந்துபோவோம்.

26 For who of all flesh has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire, as we have, and survived?

நாங்கள் இன்று கேட்டதுபோல உயிருள்ள இறைவனின் குரல் நெருப்பிலிருந்து பேசுவதைக் கேட்டும் உயிர்த்தப்பியிருக்கிற மனிதர் யார்?

27 Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we will listen and obey.”

நீரே கிட்டப்போய் நமது இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா சொல்வதெல்லாவற்றையும் கேளும். பின் எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உமக்குச் சொல்லும் அனைத்தையும் எங்களுக்குச் சொல்லும். நாங்கள் அதற்குச் செவிகொடுத்துக் கீழ்ப்படிவோம்” என்றீர்கள்.

28 And the LORD heard the words you spoke to me, and He said to me, “I have heard the words that these people have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.

நீங்கள் என்னோடு பேசுவதை யெகோவா கேட்டார். அவர் என்னிடம், “இந்த மக்கள் உனக்குச் சொன்னவற்றை எல்லாம் நான் கேட்டேன். அவர்கள் சொன்னதெல்லாம் நல்லதே.

29 If only they had such a heart to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever.

அவர்களுடைய இருதயங்கள் எனக்குப் பயந்து, எப்பொழுதும் என் கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொண்டால் அவர்களும் அவர்களுடைய பிள்ளைகளும் என்றென்றைக்கும் நலமாய் இருப்பார்களே!

30 Go and tell them: ‘Return to your tents.’

“நீ போய் அவரவர் கூடாரங்களுக்குப் போகும்படி அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்.

31 But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”

ஆனால் நீயோ இங்கே என்னிடம் தங்கியிரு. அவர்கள் உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளும்படி நான் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கிற நாட்டில், அவர்கள் பின்பற்றும்படி நீ அவர்களுக்குப் போதிக்கவேண்டிய எல்லா கட்டளைகளையும், விதிமுறைகளையும், சட்டங்களையும் நான் உனக்குக் கொடுப்பேன்” என்றார்.

32 So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you are not to turn aside to the right or to the left.

ஆகவே நீங்கள் உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறதை கைக்கொள்ளக் கவனமாயிருங்கள். அதைவிட்டு வலதுபக்கமோ, இடது பக்கமோ விலகிப்போக வேண்டாம்.

33 You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிற வழிகளிலெல்லாம் நடவுங்கள், அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளும் அந்த நாட்டில் வாழ்ந்து, செழித்து நீடித்திருப்பீர்கள்.
