Deuteronomy 25
1 If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court to be judged, so that the innocent may be acquitted and the guilty condemned.
यदि दो व्यक्ति अपना विवाद लेकर न्यायालय को जाते हैं, और न्यायाध्यक्ष उनके विवाद पर अपना निर्णय दे देते हैं, निर्दोष को न्याय प्राप्त हो जाता है और दुष्ट को दंड.
2 If the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall have him lie down and be flogged in his presence with the number of lashes his crime warrants.
तब यदि न्याय के अंतर्गत दुष्ट को पीटा जाना तय किया गया है, तब न्यायाध्यक्ष उसे भूमि पर लेट जाने का आदेश देगा और उसी न्यायाध्यक्ष की उपस्थिति में उतने ही वार किए जाएं जितने निर्णय के अनुसार उसके कुकर्म के लिए घोषित किए गए थे.
3 He may receive no more than forty lashes, lest your brother be beaten any more than that and be degraded in your sight.
संभवतः उस पर चालीस प्रहार किए जाएं, मगर इससे अधिक नहीं, उसे यदि इनसे अधिक प्रहार किए जाएं तो वह तुम सब की नजर में अपमानित हो जाएगा.
4 Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
तुम दांवनी करते बैल के मुख को मुखबन्धनी न बांधना.
5 When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
जब सब भाई एक ही परिवार में निवास कर रहे हैं और उनमें से एक की मृत्यु हो जाती है, जबकि उसके कोई संतान नहीं है, तब उसकी पत्नी का विवाह परिवार के बाहर किसी अपरिचित व्यक्ति से न किया जाए. उस स्त्री के पति का भाई उससे विवाह कर मृत पति के भाई की जवाबदारी पूरी करेगा.
6 The first son she bears will carry on the name of the dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
इस संयोग से पैदा पहलौठा उस मृत भाई का नाम धारण करेगा, जिससे कि मृत भाई का नाम इस्राएल से खत्म न हो जाए.
7 But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, she is to go to the elders at the city gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel. He is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law for me.”
मगर यदि वह व्यक्ति अपने भाई की पत्नी को स्वीकार करना न चाहे, तो उसके भाई की पत्नी नगर प्रवेश द्वार पर नगर पुरनियों के सामने जाएगी और उन्हें यह सूचित करेगी, “मेरे पति का भाई अपने मरे हुए भाई का नाम इस्राएल में स्थायी रखने के विषय में सहमत नहीं है. वह मेरे साथ पति के भाई की जवाबदारी निभाने के लिए तैयार नहीं है.”
8 Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak with him. If he persists and says, “I do not want to marry her,”
तब नगर पुरनिए उसे वहां उपस्थित होने का आदेश देंगे, उसे समझाने का प्रयास करेंगे. यदि वह हठ करते हुए कहे, “मैं उस स्त्री से विवाह नहीं करना चाहता,”
9 his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, remove his sandal, spit in his face, and declare, “This is what is done to the man who will not maintain his brother’s line.”
तब उसके भाई की पत्नी पुरनियों की उपस्थिति में ही उसके पांवों से उसकी चप्पल उतारेगी और उसके मुख पर थूक कर कहेगी, “ऐसे व्यक्ति के साथ यही किया जाता है, जो अपने भाई के वंश को बनाए रखना नहीं चाहता.”
10 And his family name in Israel will be called “The House of the Unsandaled.”
इस्राएल में उसका नाम प्रचलित हो जाएगा, “बैथ हलूज़ हन्नाएल, अर्थात् उसका घर जिसकी चप्पल उतारी गई है.”
11 If two men are fighting, and the wife of one steps in to rescue her husband from the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his genitals,
यदि दो इस्राएली व्यक्तियों में हाथापाई हो रही है और उनमें से एक की पत्नी अपने पति की रक्षा के उपक्रम में निकट आकर अन्य व्यक्ति के अंडकोश को दबोच लेती है,
12 you are to cut off her hand. You must show her no pity.
तब तुम उस स्त्री पर बिना कृपा दिखाए उसका हाथ काट डालोगे.
13 You shall not have two differing weights in your bag, one heavy and one light.
तुम अपनी झोली में एक ही माप, भिन्न-भिन्न माप नहीं रखोगे; एक गुरुतर और अन्य लघुतर.
14 You shall not have two differing measures in your house, one large and one small.
तुम अपने घर में एक ही माप के भिन्न-भिन्न माप नहीं रखोगे; एक गुरुतर और एक लघुतर.
15 You must maintain accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
तुम्हारे माप पूरा और सही-सही ही हों, कि उसे देश में, जो याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें प्रदान कर रहे हैं, तुम लंबी आयु पाओ.
16 For everyone who behaves dishonestly in regard to these things is detestable to the LORD your God.
क्योंकि जो कोई ये सारे काम करता है, जिसका पालन करना गलत है, याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर के लिए घृणित है.
17 Remember what the Amalekites did to you along your way from Egypt,
यह याद रखना कि मिस्र से निकलकर मार्ग में अमालेक ने तुम्हारे साथ क्या किया था.
18 how they met you on your journey when you were tired and weary, and they attacked all your stragglers; they had no fear of God.
कैसे उस स्थिति में, जब तुम शांत और शिथिल हो चुके थे उन्होंने उन लोगों पर हमला किया था; जो समूह में सबसे पीछे थे उन्हें परमेश्वर का ज़रा भी भय न था.
19 When the LORD your God gives you rest from the enemies around you in the land that He is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you are to blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
फिर अब तो होगा यह कि याहवेह, तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें उस देश में, जो याहवेह तुम्हारे परमेश्वर तुम्हें मीरास के रूप प्रदान कर रहे हैं, कि तुम उस पर अधिकार करो, तुम्हारे पास वाले सारे शत्रुओं से विश्रान्ति प्रदान कर चुके होंगे, तुम पृथ्वी पर से अमालेक की याद ही मिटा दोगे; यह तुम भुला न देना!
