Deuteronomy 22
1 If you see your brother’s ox or sheep straying, you must not ignore it; be sure to return it to your brother.
Si tu vois le bœuf ou la brebis de ton frère égarés dans les champs, tu ne t’en détourneras pas, mais tu les ramèneras à ton frère.
2 If your brother does not live near you, or if you do not know who he is, you are to take the animal home to remain with you until your brother comes seeking it; then you can return it to him.
Si ton frère n’habite pas près de toi et que tu ne le connaisses pas, tu recueilleras l’animal dans ta maison, et il restera chez toi jusqu’à ce que ton frère le recherche, et alors tu le lui rendras.
3 And you shall do the same for his donkey, his cloak, or anything your brother has lost and you have found. You must not ignore it.
Tu feras de même pour son âne, et tu feras de même pour son manteau, et tu feras de même pour tout objet perdu, que ton frère aurait perdu et que tu trouverais; tu ne dois pas t’en détourner.
4 If you see your brother’s donkey or ox fallen on the road, you must not ignore it; you must help him lift it up.
Si tu vois l’âne de ton frère ou son bœuf s’abattre dans le chemin, tu ne t’en détourneras pas; tu ne manqueras pas de l’aider à les relever.
5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, and a man must not wear women’s clothing, for whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD your God.
Une femme ne portera pas un habit d’homme, et un homme ne mettra pas un vêtement de femme; car quiconque fait ces choses est en abomination à Yahweh, ton Dieu.
6 If you come across a bird’s nest with chicks or eggs, either in a tree or on the ground along the road, and the mother is sitting on the chicks or eggs, you must not take the mother along with the young.
Si tu rencontres dans ton chemin un nid d’oiseau, sur un arbre ou sur la terre, avec des petits ou des œufs, et la mère couchée sur les petits ou sur les œufs, tu ne prendras pas la mère avec les petits;
7 You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days.
tu ne manqueras pas de laisser aller la mère, et tu ne prendras pour toi que les petits, afin que tu sois heureux et que tu prolonges tes jours.
8 If you build a new house, you are to construct a railing around your roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt on your house if someone falls from it.
Quand tu bâtiras une maison neuve, tu feras une balustrade autour de ton toit, afin de ne pas mettre du sang sur ta maison, dans le cas où quelqu’un viendrait à tomber de là.
9 Do not plant your vineyard with two types of seed; if you do, the entire harvest will be defiled —both the crop you plant and the fruit of your vineyard.
Tu n’ensemenceras pas ta vigne de deux sortes de semences; de peur que le tout ne soit déclaré chose sainte, et la graine que tu as semée, et le produit de la vigne.
10 Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.
Tu ne laboureras pas avec un bœuf et un âne attelés ensemble.
11 Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
Tu ne porteras pas un vêtement d’un tissu mélangé de laine et de lin réunis ensemble.
12 You are to make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.
Tu feras des glands aux quatre coins du vêtement dont tu te couvriras.
13 Suppose a man marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to hate her,
Si un homme, après avoir pris une femme et être allé vers elle, vient à éprouver pour elle de l’aversion,
14 and he then accuses her of shameful conduct and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman and had relations with her, but I discovered she was not a virgin.”
et lui impute des choses déshonorantes et porte atteinte à sa réputation, en disant: « J’ai pris cette femme et, quand je suis venu vers elle, je ne l’ai pas trouvée vierge »,
15 Then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring the proof of her virginity to the city elders at the gate
le père et la mère de la jeune femme prendront les signes de sa virginité, et les produiront devant les anciens de la ville, à la porte.
16 and say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he has come to hate her.
Le père de la jeune fille dira aux anciens: « J’ai donné ma fille pour femme à cet homme et, l’ayant prise en aversion,
17 And now he has accused her of shameful conduct, saying, ‘I discovered that your daughter was not a virgin.’ But here is the proof of her virginity.” And they shall spread out the cloth before the city elders.
il lui impute des choses déshonorantes en disant: Je n’ai pas trouvé ta fille vierge. Or voici les signes de virginité de ma fille. » Et ils déploieront son vêtement devant les anciens de la ville.
18 Then the elders of that city shall take the man and punish him.
Alors les anciens de la ville saisiront cet homme et le châtieront;
19 They are also to fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given a virgin of Israel a bad name. And she shall remain his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.
en outre, ils lui imposeront une amende de cent sicles d’argent, qu’ils donneront au père de la jeune femme, pour avoir porté atteinte à la réputation d’une vierge d’Israël. Elle restera sa femme, et il ne pourra pas la renvoyer, tant qu’il vivra.
20 If, however, this accusation is true, and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found,
Mais si ce fait est vrai et que la jeune femme ne soit pas trouvée vierge,
21 she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house, and there the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an outrage in Israel by being promiscuous in her father’s house. So you must purge the evil from among you.
on fera sortir la jeune femme à l’entrée de la maison de son père, et elle sera lapidée par les gens de sa ville, jusqu’à ce qu’elle meure, parce qu’elle a commis une infamie en Israël, en se prostituant dans la maison de son père. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
22 If a man is found lying with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.
Si l’on trouve un homme couché avec une femme mariée, ils mourront tous deux, l’homme qui a couché avec la femme, et la femme aussi. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu d’Israël.
23 If there is a virgin pledged in marriage to a man, and another man encounters her in the city and sleeps with her,
Si une jeune fille vierge est fiancée à quelqu’un, et qu’un homme la rencontre dans la ville et couche avec elle,
24 you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has violated his neighbor’s wife. So you must purge the evil from among you.
vous les amènerez tous deux à la porte de la ville, et vous les lapiderez, jusqu’à ce qu’ils meurent: la jeune fille pour n’avoir pas crié dans la ville, et l’homme pour avoir déshonoré la femme de son prochain. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
25 But if the man encounters a betrothed woman in the open country, and he overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who has done this must die.
Mais si c’est dans les champs que cet homme rencontre la jeune fille fiancée, et qu’il lui fasse violence et couche avec elle, l’homme qui aura couché avec elle mourra seul.
26 Do nothing to the young woman, because she has committed no sin worthy of death. This case is just like one in which a man attacks his neighbor and murders him.
Tu ne feras rien à la jeune fille; il n’y a pas en elle de crime digne de mort, car c’est comme lorsqu’un homme se jette sur son prochain et le tue; le cas est le même.
27 When he found her in the field, the betrothed woman cried out, but there was no one to save her.
L’homme l’a rencontrée dans les champs, la jeune fille fiancée a crié, mais il n’y avait personne pour la secourir.
28 If a man encounters a virgin who is not pledged in marriage, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered,
Si un homme rencontre une jeune fille vierge non fiancée, la saisit et couche avec elle, et qu’ils soient surpris,
29 then the man who lay with her must pay the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she must become his wife because he has violated her. He must not divorce her as long as he lives.
l’homme qui a couché avec elle donnera au père de la jeune fille cinquante sicles d’argent, et elle sera sa femme, parce qu’il l’a déshonorée, il ne pourra pas la renvoyer, tant qu’il vivra.
30 A man is not to marry his father’s wife, so that he will not dishonor his father’s marriage bed.
Nul ne prendra la femme de son père et ne soulèvera la couverture du lit de son père.
