< Deuteronomy 2 >

1 Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.
Awo ne tukyuka ne tuddayo mu ddungu nga twolekera Ennyanja Emyufu, nga Mukama bwe yandagira. Ne tumala ennaku nnyingi nnyo nga tutambulira mu nsi ey’ensozi ey’e Seyiri.
2 At this time the LORD said to me,
Mukama n’aŋŋamba nti,
3 “You have been wandering around this hill country long enough; turn to the north
“Mu nsi eno ey’ensozi mutambuliddemu ekiseera kiwanvu, era kimala; kale kaakano mukyuke mulage mu bukiikakkono.
4 and command the people: ‘You will pass through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so you must be very careful.
Abantu bawe ebiragiro bino nti, ‘Muli kumpi okutuuka mu nsi ya baganda bammwe, abazzukulu ba Esawu ababeera mu Seyiri, bajja kubatya, kyokka mubeegendereza nnyo.
5 Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as his possession.
Temubasosonkerezaako lutalo, kubanga mmwe sijja kubawa ku ttaka lyabwe, wadde akatundu akatono awagya ekigere ky’omuntu. Kubanga ensi ey’ensozi eya Seyiri nagiwa dda Esawu okuba obutaka bwe obwenkalakkalira.
6 You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”
Mubagulangako emmere gye munaalyanga nga mugisasulira n’ensimbi, n’amazzi ag’okunywa nago nga mugasasulira ensimbi.’”
7 Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
Mukama Katonda wo akuwadde omukisa mu mirimu gyonna gy’okola n’emikono gyo. Amanyi nti otambulira mu ddungu lino eddene ennyo bwe lityo. Era Mukama Katonda wammwe abadde akulabirira emyaka gino gyonna amakumi ana, ng’abeera naawe, era nga buli kye weetaaga akikuwa.
8 So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned away from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion-geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
Bwe tutyo ne tweyongerayo mu lugendo lwaffe nga tuyita ku baganda baffe abazzukulu ba Esawu ababeera mu Seyiri. Ne tuleka ekkubo ly’Alaba eririnnyalinnya okuva Erasi ne Eziyonigeba, ne tukwata ekkubo eriyita mu ddungu lya Mowaabu.
9 Then the LORD said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
Awo Mukama Katonda n’aŋŋamba nti, “Abamowaabu temubasunguwaza wadde okubasosonkerezaako olutalo, kubanga sigenda mmwe kubawa ku ttaka lyabwe mu Ali, ettaka eryo namala dda okuliwa bazzukulu ba Lutti okubeera obutaka bwabwe.”
10 (The Emites used to live there, a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites.
Abemi be baabeeranga mu kitundu ekyo, nga basajja banene, nga ba maanyi, nga bangi nnyo, era nga bawanvu okwenkana nga Abanaki.
11 Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
Baayitibwanga Baleefa okufaanana nga Abanaki bwe baayitibwanga, naye Abamowaabu nga bo babayita Bemi.
12 The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
Mu biseera eby’edda Abakooli nabo baabeeranga mu Seyiri, okutuusa bazzukulu ba Esawu bwe baabasiguukulula ne babagobamu ne babazikiriza, ensi eyo ne bagyetwalira, bo ne bagibeeramu; okufaananako ng’Abayisirayiri bwe balikola mu nsi Mukama Katonda gye yabawa ey’obusika bw’obutaka bwabwe obw’enkalakkalira.
13 “Now arise and cross over the Brook of Zered.” So we crossed over the Brook of Zered.
Mukama n’agamba nti, “Musituke musomoke akagga Zeredi.” Ne tusomoka.
14 The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.
Olwo nga kasookedde tuva mu Kadesubanea okutuusa lwe twasomoka akagga Zeredi gyali giweze emyaka amakumi asatu mu munaana. Ekiseera ekyo we kyaggweerako ng’abasajja abalwanyi bonna mu lusiisira lw’abaana ba Isirayiri, ab’omu mulembe ogwo, nga bafudde baweddewo, nga Mukama Katonda bwe yabalayirira.
15 Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.
Kubanga Mukama Katonda yamalirira okubazikiriza n’omukono gwe okutuusa ng’abamaliddemu ddala mu lusiisira lwabwe.
16 Now when all the fighting men among the people had died,
Awo olwatuuka abasajja abalwanyi bonna bwe baamala okufa, nga bazikiridde baweddewo mu bantu,
17 the LORD said to me,
Mukama Katonda n’aŋŋamba nti,
18 “Today you are going to cross the border of Moab at Ar.
“Olwa leero munaasala ensalo ya Mowaabu mu Ali.
19 But when you get close to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
Naye bwe musemberera Abamoni temubasunguwaza so temubasosonkerezaako lutalo, kubanga mmwe sigenda kubawa ku ttaka ly’Abamoni n’akatono okuba obutaka bwammwe, kubanga ettaka eryo namala dda okuliwa bazzukulu ba Lutti okubeera obutaka bwabwe obw’enkalakkalira.”
20 (That too was regarded as the land of the Rephaim, who used to live there, though the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
Ekitundu ekyo era kyali kiyitibwa nsi ya Baleefa, kubanga Abaleefa be baabeerangamu naye Abamoni nga babayita Bazamuzumu.
21 They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
Baali basajja ba maanyi era nga bangi nnyo, nga bawanvu ng’Abanaki. Naye Mukama Katonda n’abawaayo eri Abamoni ne babazikiriza, ne batwala ensi yaabwe ne bagituulamu.
22 just as He had done for the descendants of Esau who lived in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
Ne kifaananako nga Mukama bwe yazikiriza Abakooli abaalinga mu Seyiri, ensi yaabwe n’agiwa bazzukulu ba Esawu okuba obutaka bwabwe obw’enkalakkalira n’okutuusa leero.
23 And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, were destroyed by the Caphtorites, who came out of Caphtor and settled in their place.)
Abavi abaabeeranga mu byalo ebyesuddeko okutuuka e Gaza, Abakafutoli abaava e Kafutoli bajja ne babazikiriza ne batwala ensi yaabwe bo ne bagibeeramu.
24 “Arise, set out, and cross the Arnon Valley. See, I have delivered into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.
“Musituke mutambule muyite mu kiwonvu ekya Alunoni. Otegeere kino nga Sikoni Omwamoli Kabaka w’e Kesuboni mmugabudde mu mukono gwo n’ensi ye yonna. Kale tandika okumutabaala, n’ensi ye ogyetwalire efuukire ddala yiyo ya butaka bwo.
25 This very day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon all the nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and tremble in anguish because of you.”
Okutandika n’olunaku lwa leero amawanga gonna ag’oku nsi nzija kugateekamu entiisa bakankane nga bawulidde ettutumu lyo babeere mu kutiitiira n’okunyolwa ku lulwo.”
26 So from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of Heshbon, saying,
Nga tuli mu ddungu ly’e Kedemosi natumira Sikoni Kabaka w’e Kesuboni n’obubaka obw’okuteesa emirembe nga mmugamba nti,
27 “Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
“Tukkirize tuyite mu nsi yo. Tujja kutambulira mu luguudo mwokka nga tetuwunjuseeko kulaga ku ludda olwa ddyo oba olwa kkono.
28 You can sell us food to eat and water to drink in exchange for silver. Only let us pass through on foot,
Onootuguzanga emmere gye tunaalyanga nga tugisasulira ensimbi, n’amazzi ge tunaanywangako, nago nga tugasasulira ensimbi. Naye tuleke tuyite mu nsi yo nga tutambula n’ebigere,
29 just as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for us, until we cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.”
nga bazzukulu ba Esawu abaabeeranga mu Seyiri, n’Abamowaabu abaabeeranga mu Ali bwe baatuleka, okutuusa lwe tulimala okusomoka Yoludaani ne tutuuka mu nsi Mukama Katonda waffe gy’ategese okutuwa.”
30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through, for the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as is the case this day.
Naye Sikoni Kabaka wa Kesuboni n’atatukkiriza kuyitawo. Kubanga Mukama Katonda wammwe yali akakanyazizza omwoyo gwe era ng’awaganyazizza omutima gwe, alyoke amugabule mu mukono gwammwe nga bwe kiri leero.
31 Then the LORD said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”
Awo Mukama Katonda n’aŋŋamba nti, “Laba, ntandise okugabula Sikoni n’ensi ye mu mukono gwo. Kale tandika okuwangula ensi ye yonna, olyoke ogyefunire okubeera obusika bwo era obutaka bwo obw’enkalakkalira.”
32 So Sihon and his whole army came out for battle against us at Jahaz.
Kabaka Sikoni n’eggye lye lyonna ne batulumba mu lutabaalo olw’e Yakazi.
33 And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him and his sons and his whole army.
Mukama Katonda waffe n’agabula Sikoni n’eggye lye lyonna, ne batabani be, mu mukono gwaffe ne tubawangula.
34 At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.
Mu kaseera ako twawamba ebibuga bye byonna ne tubizikiriza n’abantu bonna, abasajja, n’abakazi, n’abaana abato, tetwalekerawo ddala.
35 We carried off for ourselves only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we captured.
Naye ente ne tuzeetwalira awamu n’omunyago gwe twaggya mu bibuga bye twawamba.
36 From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
Okuva ku Aloweri ekiri ku lukugiro lw’Ekiwonvu Alumoni, n’okuva ku kibuga ekiri mu kiwonvu ekyo, n’okutuukira ddala mu Gireyaadi, tewaaliwo kibuga na kimu ekyatusukkirira amaanyi. Mukama Katonda waffe byonna yabitugabula mu mukono gwaffe.
37 But you did not go near the land of the Ammonites, or the land along the banks of the Jabbok River, or the cities of the hill country, or any place that the LORD our God had forbidden.
Naye ebifo, Mukama Katonda waffe bye yatulagira obutabisemberera, y’ensi y’abazzukulu ba Amoni, ne ku mbalama zonna ez’omugga Yaboki, n’ebibuga eby’omu nsi ey’ensozi; ebyo byo yatugaana okubikwatirako ddala.
