Deuteronomy 17
1 You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep with any defect or serious flaw, for that is detestable to the LORD your God.
Să nu sacrifici DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău vreun taur sau vreo oaie, în care să fie vreun cusur, sau vreun lucru rău, pentru că este o urâciune înaintea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău.
2 If a man or woman among you in one of the towns that the LORD your God gives you is found doing evil in the sight of the LORD your God by transgressing His covenant
Dacă se găseşte printre voi, în vreuna din porţile tale, pe care DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ţi le dă, un bărbat sau o femeie care a lucrat stricăciuni înaintea ochilor DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău, încălcând legământul lui,
3 and going to worship other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or moon or any of the host of heaven—which I have forbidden—
Şi care a mers şi a servit altor dumnezei şi li s-a închinat, fie soarelui sau lunii sau vreunuia din oştirea cerului, ceea ce nu am poruncit;
4 and if it is reported and you hear about it, you must investigate it thoroughly. If the report is true and such an abomination has happened in Israel,
Şi ţi se va spune şi vei fi auzit, să cercetezi cu atenţie; şi, iată, dacă este adevărat şi dacă lucrul este sigur, că s-a făcut această urâciune în Israel,
5 you must bring out to your gates the man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you must stone that person to death.
Atunci să scoţi afară la porţile tale pe acel bărbat sau pe acea femeie care a făcut acest lucru stricat, adică pe acel bărbat sau pe acea femeie, şi să îi ucizi cu pietre până când mor.
6 On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but he shall not be executed on the testimony of a lone witness.
Din gura a doi martori, sau a trei martori, să fie ucis cel care va fi demn de moarte, dar să nu fie ucis din gura unui singur martor.
7 The hands of the witnesses shall be the first in putting him to death, and after that, the hands of all the people. So you must purge the evil from among you.
Mâinile martorilor să fie primele asupra lui ca să îl ucidă şi după aceea mâinile întregului popor. Astfel să îndepărtezi răul din mijlocul vostru.
8 If a case is too difficult for you to judge, whether the controversy within your gates is regarding bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults, you must go up to the place the LORD your God will choose.
Şi dacă se va ridica un lucru prea greu de judecat pentru tine, între sânge şi sânge, între ceartă şi ceartă şi între lovitură şi lovitură, fiind cazuri de neînţelegere înăuntrul porţilor tale, atunci să te ridici şi să te urci la locul pe care îl va alege DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău.
9 You are to go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who presides at that time. Inquire of them, and they will give you a verdict in the case.
Şi să vii la preoţi, la leviţi şi la judecătorul care va fi în acele zile şi să întrebi; şi ei îţi vor arăta hotărârea de judecată,
10 You must abide by the verdict they give you at the place the LORD will choose. Be careful to do everything they instruct you,
Şi să faci conform hotărârii, pe care ţi-o vor arăta cei din locul pe care îl va alege DOMNUL; şi să iei seama să faci toate cele ce te vor instrui ei,
11 according to the terms of law they give and the verdict they proclaim. Do not turn aside to the right or to the left from the decision they declare to you.
Să faci conform hotărârii legii care te vor învăţa ei şi conform judecăţii pe care ţi-o vor spune ei; să nu te abaţi nici la dreapta, nici la stânga de la hotărârea pe care ţi-o vor spune ei.
12 But the man who acts presumptuously, refusing to listen either to the priest who stands there to serve the LORD your God, or to the judge, must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel.
Şi bărbatul care se va purta cu îngâmfare şi nu va da ascultare preotului care stă să servească acolo înaintea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău, sau judecătorului, chiar bărbatul acela să moară; şi să îndepărtezi răul din Israel.
13 Then all the people will hear and be afraid, and will no longer behave arrogantly.
Şi tot poporul să audă şi să se teamă şi să nu se mai poarte cu mândrie.
14 When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,”
După ce vei fi intrat în ţara pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău şi o vei stăpâni şi vei locui în ea şi vei spune: Voi pune un împărat peste mine, asemenea tuturor naţiunilor care sunt împrejurul meu;
15 you are to appoint over yourselves the king whom the LORD your God shall choose. Appoint a king from among your brothers; you are not to set over yourselves a foreigner who is not one of your brothers.
Să pui împărat peste tine pe acela pe care îl va alege DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, să pui împărat peste tine pe unul dintre fraţii tăi; nu poţi să pui peste tine pe un străin, care nu este fratele tău.
16 But the king must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire more horses, for the LORD has said, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’
Numai să nu aibă mulţi cai şi să nu facă pe popor să se întoarcă în Egipt, pentru a-şi înmulţi caii, văzând că DOMNUL v-a spus: Să nu vă mai întoarceţi pe acea cale.
17 He must not take many wives for himself, lest his heart go astray. He must not accumulate for himself large amounts of silver and gold.
Nici să nu aibă multe soţii, ca să nu i se abată inima; nici să nu îşi înmulţească mult argint şi aur.
18 When he is seated on his royal throne, he must write for himself a copy of this instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.
Şi va fi astfel: când şade pe tronul împărăţiei sale, să îşi scrie o copie a acestei legi într-o carte, după cea care este înaintea preoţilor, a leviţilor.
19 It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by carefully observing all the words of this instruction and these statutes.
Şi ea să fie cu el şi să citească din ea în toate zilele vieţii sale, ca să înveţe să se teamă de DOMNUL Dumnezeul său, ca să păzească toate cuvintele legii acesteia şi statutele acestea, ca să le facă,
20 Then his heart will not be exalted above his countrymen, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left, in order that he and his sons may reign many years over his kingdom in Israel.
Ca să nu i se înalţe inima deasupra fraţilor săi şi să nu se abată de la poruncă nici la dreapta, nici la stânga, pentru ca să îşi prelungească zilele în împărăţia sa, el şi copiii lui, în mijlocul lui Israel.
