< Acts 1 >

1 In my first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach,
ⲁ̅ⲡϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲛⲗⲟⲅⲟⲥ ⲁⲓⲧⲁⲙⲓⲟϥ ⲱ ⲑⲉⲟⲫⲓⲗⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲥ ⲁⲣⲭⲉⲓ ⲛⲁⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ
2 until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.
ⲃ̅ϣⲁϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲁⲛⲁⲗⲁⲙⲃⲁⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲁϥϩⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲁⲡⲟⲥⲧⲟⲗⲟⲥ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲉⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲙⲡⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲥⲟⲧⲡⲟⲩ
3 After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
ⲅ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁϩⲟϥ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉϥⲟⲛϩ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ⲧⲣⲉϥⲙⲟⲩ ϩⲛ ϩⲁϩ ⲙⲙⲁⲉⲓⲛⲛϩⲙⲉ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
4 And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss.
ⲇ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲉϥⲡⲁⲣⲁⲅⲅⲓⲗⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲗⲏⲙ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉϭⲱ ⲉⲡⲉⲣⲏⲧ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲧⲙⲉϥ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲧ
5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
ⲉ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲁϥⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲥⲉⲛⲁⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ϩⲁϩ ⲁⲛ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϣⲁ ⲧⲡⲉⲛⲧⲏⲕⲟⲥⲧⲏ
6 So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
ⲋ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ϭⲉ ⲁⲩⲥⲱⲟⲩϩ ⲁⲩϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉⲛ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲕⲛⲁϯ ⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲓⲏⲗ
7 Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.
ⲍ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲱⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲥⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲟⲓϣ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲭⲣⲟⲛⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲕⲁⲁⲩ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁϥ
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
ⲏ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁϫⲓ ⲛⲟⲩϭⲟⲙ ⲉⲣϣⲁⲛⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲉⲓ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱⲧⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲗⲏⲙ ⲙⲛ ϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲥⲁⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ϣⲁ ⲁⲣⲏϫϥ ⲙⲡⲕⲁϩ
9 After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.
ⲑ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲕⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ϫⲓⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩϥⲓ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧⲟⲩ
10 They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
ⲓ̅ⲉⲩⲉⲓⲟⲣⲙ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲉϥⲃⲏⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲛⲉⲩⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧⲟⲩ ϩⲓϫⲱⲟⲩ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛϩⲃⲥⲱ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲟⲃϣ
11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲁϩⲣⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲓⲥ ⲛⲧⲁⲩϥⲓⲧϥ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉϥⲛⲁⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near the city, a Sabbath day’s journey away.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲑⲓⲗⲏⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϣⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲛϫⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲏⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲗⲏⲙ ⲛⲟⲩϩⲓⲏ ⲛⲥⲁϣϥ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩⲧⲛ
13 When they arrived, they went to the upper room where they were staying: Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲉⲓ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲩⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲛⲉⲩⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲓⲁⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲛⲇⲣⲉⲁⲥ ⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲑⲱⲙⲁⲥ ⲃⲁⲣⲑⲟⲗⲟⲙⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲙⲁⲑⲑⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲓⲁⲕⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲁⲗⲫⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲍⲏⲗⲱⲧⲏⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲓⲁⲕⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ
14 With one accord they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲩⲡⲣⲟⲥⲕⲁⲣⲧⲉⲣⲓ ⲉⲡⲉϣⲗⲏⲗ ⲙⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲧⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥⲥⲛⲏⲩ
15 In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (a gathering of about a hundred and twenty) and said,
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲓϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲁϥⲧⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲏⲏϣⲉ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲣⲁϣⲉ ϫⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲛⲣⲁⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ
16 “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit foretold through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲉⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲛⲉϩⲁⲡⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲧⲉⲓⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲓⲛ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲧⲧⲁⲡⲣⲟ ⲛⲇⲁⲩⲓⲇ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ⲙⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲛⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϭⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲓⲥ
17 He was one of our number and shared in this ministry.”
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲁⲩⲟⲡϥ ⲡⲉ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲙⲡⲉⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲓⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲓⲁ
18 (Now with the reward for his wickedness Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong and burst open in the middle, and all his intestines spilled out.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲡⲁⲓ ϭⲉ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛⲟⲩϭⲱⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲃⲉⲕⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϥϫⲓ ⲛϭⲟⲛⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϩⲉ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲉϥϩⲟ ⲁϥⲡⲱϣ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲛⲉⲧⲡⲉϥϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲡⲱⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
19 This became known to all who lived in Jerusalem, so they called that field in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲡⲉⲓϩⲱⲃ ϭⲱⲗⲡ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲏϩ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲗⲏⲙ ϩⲱⲥⲧⲉ ⲛⲥⲉⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲡϭⲱⲙ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲩⲁⲥⲡⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲕⲉⲗⲇⲁⲙⲁⲭ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡϭⲱⲙ ⲙⲡⲉⲥⲛⲟϥ
20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’ and, ‘May another take his position.’
ⲕ̅ϥⲥⲏϩ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲙ ⲡϫⲱⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲯⲁⲗⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲁⲣⲉⲧⲉϥⲣⲥⲱ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϫⲁⲓⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲣⲧⲣⲉϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲏϩ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲁ ⲛϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲉⲡⲓⲥⲕⲟⲡⲟⲥ ⲙⲁⲣⲉⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ϫⲓⲧⲥ
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ϣϣⲉ ϭⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲛ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲓⲥ
22 beginning from John’s baptism until the day Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲉⲁϥⲁⲣⲭⲉⲓ ϫⲓⲛ ⲡⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲙⲁ ⲛⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ϣⲁϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲁⲩϥⲓⲧϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲛ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲁⲥⲓⲥ
23 So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲧⲁϩⲉ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲁⲧⲟⲩ ⲓⲱⲥⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲧⲉϣⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲃⲁⲣⲥⲁⲃⲁⲥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲩϯⲣⲓⲛϥ ⲉⲓⲟⲩⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲁⲑⲓⲁⲥ
24 And they prayed, “Lord, You know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲩϣⲗⲏⲗ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲫⲏⲧ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲟⲩⲁ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲕⲥⲟⲧⲡϥ
25 to take up this ministry and apostleship, which Judas abandoned to go to his rightful place.”
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲉϫⲓ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲧⲉⲓⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲓⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲡⲟⲥⲧⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲙⲁ ⲙⲙⲓⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
