Acts 24
1 Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, who presented to the governor their case against Paul.
Y cinco días después descendió el sumo sacerdote Ananías, con los ancianos, y con un cierto orador llamado Tértulo; los cuales comparecieron delante del gobernador contra Pablo.
2 When Paul had been called in, Tertullus opened the prosecution: “Because of you, we have enjoyed a lasting peace, and your foresight has brought improvements to this nation.
Y habiéndole citado, Tértulo comenzó a acusar le, diciendo: Como sea así que por causa tuya vivamos en grande paz, y habiéndose dado buenos reglamentos a esta nación por tu prudencia,
3 In every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, we acknowledge this with all gratitude.
Siempre y en todo lugar lo recibimos con todo hacimiento de gracias, oh excelente Félix.
4 But in order not to burden you any further, I beg your indulgence to hear us briefly.
Empero por no detenerte más largamente, ruégote que nos oigas brevemente conforme a tu equidad.
5 We have found this man to be a pestilence, stirring up dissension among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes,
Porque hemos hallado que este hombre es pestilencial, y levantador de sediciones entre todos los Judíos por todo el mundo; y jefe de la sediciosa secta de los Nazarenos.
6 and he even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him.
El cual también tentó a violar al templo; y prendiéndole le quisimos juzgar conforme a nuestra ley.
Mas sobre viniendo el tribuno Lisias, con grande violencia le quitó de nuestras manos,
8 By examining him yourself, you will be able to learn the truth about all our charges against him.”
Mandando a sus acusadores que viniesen a ti: del cual tú mismo examinando, podrás entender de todas estas cosas de que le acusamos.
9 The Jews concurred, asserting that these charges were true.
Y añadieron también los Judíos, diciendo estas cosas ser así.
10 When the governor motioned for Paul to speak, he began his response: “Knowing that you have been a judge over this nation for many years, I gladly make my defense.
Entonces Pablo, habiéndole hecho señal el gobernador de que hablase, respondió: Porque sé que ha muchos años que eres Juez de esta nación, con mayor ánimo me defenderé.
11 You can verify for yourself that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship.
Que tú puedes entender que no ha más de doce días que subí a adorar a Jerusalem.
12 Yet my accusers did not find me debating with anyone in the temple or riling up a crowd in the synagogues or in the city.
Y ni me hallaron en el templo disputando con alguno, ni haciendo concurso de la multitud, ni en las sinagogas, ni en la ciudad:
13 Nor can they prove to you any of their charges against me.
Ni te pueden probar las cosas de que ahora me acusan.
14 I do confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets,
Esto empero te confieso, que conforme a aquel camino que llaman ellos herejía, así sirvo al Dios de mis padres, creyendo todas las cosas que en la ley, y en los profetas están escritas:
15 and I have the same hope in God that they themselves cherish, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
Teniendo esperanza en Dios, como ellos mismos también la tienen, de que ha de haber resurrección de los muertos, así de los justos, como de los injustos.
16 In this hope, I strive always to maintain a clear conscience before God and man.
Y por esto yo procuro tener siempre conciencia sin ofensa acerca de Dios, y acerca de los hombres.
17 After several years, then, I returned to Jerusalem to bring alms to my people and to present offerings.
Mas pasados muchos años, vine a hacer limosnas a mi nación y ofrendas,
18 At the time they found me in the temple, I was ceremonially clean and was not inciting a crowd or an uproar. But there are some Jews from the province of Asia
Cuando me hallaron santificado en el templo, (no con multitud, ni con alboroto, ) unos Judíos de Asia:
19 who ought to appear before you and bring charges, if they have anything against me.
Los cuales convenía que fueran presentes delante de ti, y acusar, si contra mí tenían algo:
20 Otherwise, let these men state for themselves any crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin,
O si no, que estos mismos digan aquí, si hallaron en mí alguna cosa mal hecha cuando yo estuve delante del concilio;
21 unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”
Sino que sea por esta sola voz que clamé estando entre ellos: Que de la resurrección de los muertos soy hoy juzgado por vosotros.
22 Then Felix, who was well informed about the Way, adjourned the hearing and said, “When Lysias the commander comes, I will decide your case.”
Entonces oídas estas cosas, teniendo Félix mejor conocimiento de aquel camino, les puso dilación, diciendo: Cuando descendiere el tribuno Lisias, acabaré de conocer de vuestro negocio.
23 He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard, but to allow him some freedom and permit his friends to minister to his needs.
Y mandó al centurión, que Pablo fuese guardado, y que fuese relajado, y que no vedase a ninguno de los suyos de servir le, o venir a él.
24 After several days, Felix returned with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
Y algunos días después, viniendo Félix con Drusila su mujer, la cual era Judía, llamó a Pablo, y oyó de él sobre la fe que es en Cristo.
25 As Paul expounded on righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “You may go for now. When I find the time, I will call for you.”
Y razonando él de la justicia, y de la continencia, y del juicio venidero, espantado Félix, respondió: Por ahora vete; que teniendo lugar oportuno te llamaré:
26 At the same time, he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe. So he sent for Paul frequently and talked with him.
Esperaba también, que de parte de Pablo le sería dado dinero, porque le soltase; por lo cual haciéndole venir muchas veces, hablaba con él.
27 After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.
Mas cumplidos dos años, Félix tuvo por sucesor a Porcio Festo; y queriendo Félix ganar la gracia de los Judíos, dejó preso a Pablo.
