2 Samuel 20
1 Now a worthless man named Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjamite, happened to be there, and he blew the ram’s horn and shouted: “We have no share in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Every man to his tent, O Israel!”
Hallábase allí un hijo de Belial, que se llamaba Seba, hijo de Bicrí, benjaminita; el cual tocó la trompeta y dijo: “Nosotros no tenemos parte con David, ni herencia con el hijo de Isaí. ¡Cada uno a su tienda, oh Israel!”
2 So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
Y todos los hombres de Israel abandonaron a David y siguieron a Seba, hijo de Bicrí, quedando fieles al rey solo los hombres de Judá, desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén.
3 When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to care for the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.
Llegó, pues, David a Jerusalén, a su casa; y tomó el rey a las diez mujeres secundarias que había dejado al cuidado de la casa, y las puso en clausura. Las sustentó, pero no se llegó más a ellas. Estuvieron encerradas hasta el día que murieron, viviendo como viudas.
4 Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.”
Dijo el rey a Amasá: “Convócame dentro de tres días a los hombres de Judá; y tú también estate aquí presente.”
5 So Amasa went to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time allotted him.
Fue Amasá a convocar a Judá, mas no guardó el plazo fijado.
6 And David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom. Take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us.”
Por lo cual dijo David a Abisai: “Ahora Seba, hijo de Bicrí, va a hacernos más mal que Absalón. Toma, pues, tú los siervos de tu señor, y sigue tras él, no sea que halle para sí ciudades fortificadas y se escape de nuestra vista.”
7 So Joab’s men, along with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, marched out of Jerusalem in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.
Y salieron en pos de él los hombres de Joab, los cereteos y los feleteos y todos los hombres valientes. Salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Seba, hijo de Bicrí.
8 And while they were at the great stone in Gibeon, Amasa joined them. Now Joab was dressed in military attire, with a dagger strapped to his belt. And as he stepped forward, he slipped the dagger from its sheath.
Estando ellos junto a la piedra grande que había en Gabaón, se presentó Amasá delante de ellos. Vestía Joab su túnica militar, sobre la cual tenía ceñida a sus lomos una espada en su vaina, que saliéndose se le cayó.
9 “Are you well, my brother?” Joab asked Amasa. And with his right hand Joab grabbed Amasa by the beard to kiss him.
Dijo Joab a Amasá: “¿Te va bien, hermano mío?”, y con la mano derecha tomó a Amasá de la barba para besarlo.
10 Amasa was not on guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach and spilled out his intestines on the ground. And Joab did not need to strike him again, for Amasa was dead. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.
Amasá no se fijó en la espada que Joab tenía en la mano, de modo que este pudo herirlo con ella en el vientre y derramar por tierra sus entrañas; y sin golpe murió Amasá. Luego Joab y su hermano Abisai continuaron la persecución de Seba, hijo de Bicrí.
11 One of Joab’s young men stood near Amasa and said, “Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!”
Uno de los soldados de Joab se apostó junto a Amasá y decía: “¡Quien es del partido de Joab y quien está con David que siga tras Joab!”
12 But Amasa wallowed in his blood in the middle of the road, and when the man saw that all the troops were stopping there, he dragged the body off the road into a field and threw a garment over it.
Mientras tanto Amasá se revolcaba en su sangre, en medio del camino. Mas viendo ese hombre que todo el pueblo se paraba, trasladó a Amasá del camino al campo y lo cubrió con una ropa; pues se había dado cuenta de que todos los que pasaban se detenían junto a él.
13 As soon as Amasa’s body was removed from the road, all the men went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bichri.
Apartado ya del camino, toda la gente siguió adelante en pos de Joab, en persecución de Seba, hijo de Bicrí.
14 Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel-beth-maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and followed him.
Joab recorrió todas las tribus de Israel hasta Abel de Betmaacá; y también todos los bicritas se reunieron y le siguieron.
15 And Joab’s troops came and besieged Sheba in Abel-beth-maacah and built a siege ramp against the outer rampart of the city. As all the troops with Joab were battering the wall to topple it,
Llegaron, pues, y sitiaron (a Seba) en Abel de Betmaacá y levantaron contra la ciudad un baluarte que llegaba hasta el vallado, y toda la gente que estaba con Joab estaba batiendo el muro para destruirlo.
16 a wise woman called out from the city, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come here so that I may speak with him.”
Entonces una mujer sabia gritó desde la ciudad: “¡Oíd! ¡Oíd! ¡Os ruego que digáis a Joab que se llegue aquí, para que yo hable con él!”
17 When he had come near to her, the woman asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he replied. “Listen to the words of your servant,” she said. “I am listening,” he answered.
Se le acercó Joab y la mujer preguntó: “¿Eres tú Joab?” “Yo soy”, contestó él. Entonces ella le dijo: “Escucha las palabras de tu sierva.” A lo que dijo él: “Escucho.”
18 Then the woman said, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Seek counsel at Abel,’ and that is how disputes were settled.
Luego habló ella, diciendo: “Antiguamente se solía decir: ‘Hay que pedir consejo en Abel’; y así se arreglaba todo asunto.
19 I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel, but you are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the LORD’s inheritance?”
Yo soy una de las (ciudades) pacíficas y fieles en Israel; tú procuras destruir una ciudad y una madre en Israel. ¿Por qué quieres devorar la herencia de Yahvé?”
20 “Far be it!” Joab declared. “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy!
Joab respondió: “¡Muy lejos de mí la idea de devorar y destruir!
21 That is not the case. But a man named Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”
El caso no es así, sino es que un hombre de la montaña de Efraím que se llama Seba, hijo de Bicrí, ha levantado la mano contra el rey David. Entregadme ese hombre solo y me retiraré de la ciudad.” Repuso la mujer a Joab: “He aquí que se te arrojará su cabeza por encima de la muralla.”
22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise counsel, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the ram’s horn and his men dispersed from the city, each to his own home. And Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.
Entonces la mujer se dirigió a todo el pueblo con tanta cordura que cortaron la cabeza a Seba, hijo de Bicrí, y se la echaron a Joab; el cual tocó la trompeta y las tropas se dispersaron retirándose de la ciudad, cada una hacia su tienda; y Joab se volvió a Jerusalén, al rey.
23 Now Joab was over the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites;
Joab estaba al frente del ejército de Israel; Banaías, hijo de Joiadá, era capitán de los cereteos y feleteos;
24 Adoram was in charge of the forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
Aduram, inspector de los tributos; Josafat, hijo de Aquilud, cronista;
25 Sheva was the scribe; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
Sivá, secretario, y Sadoc y Abiatar eran sacerdotes.
26 and Ira the Jairite was David’s priest.
También Irá de Jaír era ministro de David.
