2 Samuel 17
1 Furthermore, Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men and set out tonight in pursuit of David.
Entonces Aquitofel dijo a Absalom: Yo escogeré ahora doce mil hombres, y me levantaré, y seguiré a David esta noche.
2 I will attack him while he is weak and weary; I will throw him into a panic, and all the people with him will flee; I will strike down only the king
Y daré sobre él, que él estará cansado y flaco de manos, yo le atemorizaré, y todo el pueblo que está con él huirá: y heriré el rey solo:
3 and bring all the people back to you as a bride returning to her husband. You seek the life of only one man; then all the people will be at peace.”
Y tornaré a todo el pueblo a ti: y cuando ellos hubieren vuelto, ( pues aquel hombre es el que tú quieres, ) todo el pueblo estará en paz.
4 This proposal seemed good to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.
Esta razón pareció bien a Absalom y a todos los ancianos de Israel.
5 Then Absalom said, “Summon Hushai the Archite as well, and let us hear what he too has to say.”
Y dijo Absalom: Yo te ruego que llames también a Cusai Araquita, para que oigamos también lo que él dirá.
6 So Hushai came to Absalom, who told him, “Ahithophel has spoken this proposal. Should we carry it out? If not, what do you say?”
Y como Cusai vino a Absalom, Absalom le habló, diciendo: Así ha dicho Aquitofel: ¿Seguiremos su consejo, o no? Di tú.
7 Hushai replied, “This time the advice of Ahithophel is not sound.”
Entonces Cusai dijo a Absalom: El consejo que ha dado esta vez Aquitofel no es bueno.
8 He continued, “You know your father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Moreover, your father is a man of war who will not spend the night with the troops.
Y dijo también Cusai: Tú sabes que tu padre y los suyos son hombres valientes, y que están ahora con amargura de ánimo, como la osa en el campo cuando la han quitado los hijos. Además de esto, tu padre es hombre de guerra, y no tendrá la noche con el pueblo.
9 Surely by now he is hiding in a cave or some other location. If some of your troops fall first, whoever hears of it will say, ‘There has been a slaughter among the troops who follow Absalom.’
He aquí, él estará ahora escondido en alguna cueva, o en algún otro lugar. Y si al principio cayeren algunos de los tuyos, oírlo ha quien lo oyere, y dirá: El pueblo que sigue a Absalom ha sido muerto.
10 Then even the most valiant soldier with the heart of a lion will melt with fear, because all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man who has valiant men with him.
Y aunque sea valiente hombre, cuyo corazón sea como corazón de león, sin duda desmayará; porque todo Israel sabe, que tu padre es valiente hombre, y que los que están con él son esforzados.
11 Instead, I advise that all Israel from Dan to Beersheba—a multitude like the sand on the seashore—be gathered to you, and that you yourself lead them into battle.
Mas yo aconsejo, que todo Israel se junte a ti desde Dan hasta Beer-seba que será en multitud como la arena que está a la orilla de la mar, y que tu rostro vaya en la batalla.
12 Then we will attack David wherever we find him, and we will descend on him like dew on the ground. And of all the men with him, not even one will remain.
Entonces vendremos a él en cualquier lugar que se pudiere hallar, y daremos sobre él, como cuando el rocío cae sobre la tierra, y ni uno dejaremos de él, y de todos los que están con él.
13 If he retreats to a city, all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it down to the valley until not even a pebble can be found.”
Y si se recogiere en alguna ciudad, todos los de Israel traerán sogas a aquella ciudad, y traerla hemos arrastrando hasta el arroyo, que nunca más parezca de ella piedra.
14 Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than that of Ahithophel.” For the LORD had purposed to thwart the good counsel of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom.
Entonces Absalom, y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Cusai Araquita es mejor que el consejo de Aquitofel. Porque Jehová había mandado, que el consejo de Aquitofel, que era bueno, fuese disipado, para que Jehová hiciese venir mal sobre Absalom.
15 So Hushai told Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, “This is what Ahithophel has advised Absalom and the elders of Israel, and this is what I have advised.
Y Cusai dijo a Sadoc y a Abiatar sacerdotes: Así y así aconsejó Aquitofel a Absalom, y a los ancianos de Israel, y yo aconsejé así y así.
16 Now send quickly and tell David, ‘Do not spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but be sure to cross over. Otherwise the king and all the people with him will be swallowed up.’”
Por tanto enviád luego, y dad aviso a David, diciendo: No quedes esta noche en las campañas del desierto, sino pasa luego el Jordán, porque el rey no sea consumido, y todo el pueblo que con él está.
17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En-rogel, where a servant girl would come and pass along information to them. They in turn would go and inform King David, for they dared not be seen entering the city.
Y Jonatán y Aquimaas estaban junto a la fuente de Rogel, y fue allá una criada, la cual les dio el aviso, y ellos fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David: porque ellos no podían mostrarse viniendo a la ciudad.
18 But a young man did see them and told Absalom. So the two left quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed down into it.
Y fueron vistos por un mozo, el cual lo dijo a Absalom, mas los dos se dieron priesa a caminar, y llegaron a casa de un hombre en Bajurim, que tenía un pozo en su patio, dentro del cual ellos descendieron.
19 Then the man’s wife took a covering and spread it over the mouth of the well, scattering grain over it so nobody would know a thing.
Y tomando la mujer una manta, extendióla sobre la boca del pozo, y tendió sobre ella del trigo majado; y el negocio no fue entendido.
20 When Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house, they asked, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” “They have crossed over the brook,” she replied. The men searched but did not find them, so they returned to Jerusalem.
Y llegando los criados de Absalom a la casa a la mujer, dijéronle: ¿Dónde están Aquimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les respondió: Ya han pasado el vado de las aguas. Y como ellos los buscaron, y no los hallaron, volviéronse a Jerusalem.
21 After the men had gone, Ahimaaz and Jonathan climbed up out of the well and went to inform King David, saying, “Get up and cross over the river at once, for Ahithophel has given this advice against you.”
Y después que ellos se hubieron ido, estotros salieron del pozo, y fuéronse, y dieron el aviso al rey David, y dijéronle: Levantáos, y dáos priesa a pasar las aguas, porque Aquitofel ha dado tal consejo contra vosotros.
22 So David and all the people with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By daybreak, there was no one left who had not crossed the Jordan.
Entonces David se levantó, y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y pasaron el Jordán antes que amaneciese, sin faltar ni uno, que no pasase el Jordán.
23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.
Y Aquitofel viendo que no se hizo su consejo, enalbardó su asno, y levantóse, y fuése a su casa, y a su ciudad, y ordenó su casa, y se ahorcó, y murió, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.
24 Then David went to Mahanaim, and Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.
Y David vino en Mahanaim, y Absalom pasó el Jordán con todos los varones de Israel.
25 Absalom had appointed Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Amasa was the son of a man named Ithra, the Ishmaelite who had married Abigail, the daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah the mother of Joab.
Y Absalom constituyó a Amasa sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab, el cual Amasa fue hijo de un varón de Israel llamado Jetra, el cual había entrado a Abigal, hija de Naas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.
26 So the Israelites and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.
Y asentó campo Israel con Absalom en tierra de Galaad.
27 When David came to Mahanaim, he was met by Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, Machir son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim.
Y como David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi, hijo de Naas de Rabba, de los hijos de Ammón, y Maquir, hijo de Ammiel de Lo-dabar, y Berzellai Galaadita de Rogelim,
28 They brought beds, basins, and earthen vessels, as well as wheat, barley, flour, roasted grain, beans, lentils,
Trajeron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él, camas, y lebrillos, y vasijas de barro, trigo, y cebada, y harina, y trigo tostado, habas, lentejas, y garbanzos, tostados,
29 honey, curds, sheep, and cheese from the herd for David and his people to eat. For they said, “The people have become hungry, exhausted, and thirsty in the wilderness.”
Miel, manteca, ovejas, y quesos de vacas, para que comiesen; porque dijeron entre sí: Aquel pueblo está hambriento, y cansado, y tendrá sed en el desierto.
