2 Samuel 10
1 Some time later, the king of the Ammonites died and was succeeded by his son Hanun.
Después de esto aconteció que murió el rey de los hijos de Ammón, y le sucedió en el reino su hijo Hanún.
2 And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to console Hanun concerning his father. But when they arrived in the land of the Ammonites,
Dijo entonces David: “Mostraré benevolencia a Hanún, hijo de Nahás, como su padre usó de benevolencia conmigo.” Envió, pues, David a sus siervos para consolarle (de la muerte) de su padre. Pero llegados que hubieron los siervos de David al país de los hijos de Ammón,
3 the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Has not David instead sent his servants to explore the city, spy it out, and overthrow it?”
dijeron los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón a Hanún, su señor: “¿Crees tú que para honrar a tu padre, David te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No te habrá mandado David sus siervos para examinar y explorar la ciudad, a fin de destruirla?”
4 So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the hips, and sent them away.
Entonces tomó Hanún a los siervos de David, les rapó la mitad de la barba y les cortó la mitad inferior de los vestidos, hasta la cintura, y los despachó.
5 When this was reported to David, he sent messengers to meet the men, since they had been thoroughly humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
Cuando David tuvo conocimiento de esto, envió mensajeros a su encuentro, porque esos hombres estaban sumamente avergonzados. Les mandó, pues, el rey: “Quedaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y luego volveréis.”
6 When the Ammonites realized that they had become a stench to David, they hired twenty thousand Aramean foot soldiers from Beth-rehob and Zoba, as well as a thousand men from the king of Maacah and twelve thousand men from Tob.
Viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, enviaron mensajeros y tomaron a sueldo veinte mil soldados de los sirios de Bet-Rehob y de los sirios de Soba, mil del rey de Maacá y doce mil de los hombres de Tob.
7 On hearing this, David sent Joab and the entire army of mighty men.
Cuando lo supo David, envió a Joab y todo el ejército, todas las tropas valientes.
8 The Ammonites marched out and arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance of the city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the open country.
Salieron los hijos de Ammón y se formaron en orden de batalla a la entrada de la puerta, mientras los sirios de Soba y de Rehob, así como los hombres de Tob y de Maacá, estaban aparte en el campo.
9 When Joab saw the battle lines before him and behind him, he selected some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
Al ver Joab los (dos) frentes de batalla, uno por delante, y otro por las espaldas, escogió de entre todos los escogidos de Israel (un cuerpo) que puso en orden de batalla contra los sirios,
10 And he placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother Abishai, who arrayed them against the Ammonites.
entregando el resto del pueblo en manos de Abisai, su hermano, el cual los formó en orden de batalla contra los hijos de Ammón.
11 “If the Arameans are too strong for me,” said Joab, “then you will come to my rescue. And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to your rescue.
Y dijo (Joab): “Si los sirios prevalecieren contra mí, tú me ayudarás; y si los hijos de Ammón prevalecieren contra ti, iré yo a ayudarte.
12 Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
¡Ten buen ánimo, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y que haga Yahvé lo que sea de su mayor agrado!”
13 So Joab and his troops advanced to fight the Arameans, who fled before him.
Efectivamente, cuando Joab y la gente que con él estaba avanzaron para atacar a los sirios, estos huyeron delante de él.
14 When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they too fled before Abishai, and they entered the city. So Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.
Y al ver los hijos de Ammón que huían los sirios huyeron ellos también delante de Abisai, retirándose a la ciudad. Entonces Joab volvió de la guerra contra los hijos de Ammón y vino a Jerusalén.
15 When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they regrouped.
Viendo los sirios que habían sido vencidos por los hijos de Israel, concentraron todas sus fuerzas,
16 Hadadezer sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, and they came to Helam with Shobach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
y Hadadéser hizo venir a los sirios que habitaban al otro lado del río, los cuales vinieron a Helam, capitaneados por Sobac, general de las tropas de Hadadéser.
17 When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, and went to Helam. Then the Arameans arrayed themselves against David and fought against him.
De lo cual informado David, reunió a todo Israel, pasó el Jordán y llegó a Helam. Los sirios se pusieron en orden de batalla contra David y trabaron con él combate.
18 But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
Pero huyeron delante de Israel; y David les mató los caballos de setecientos carros de guerra y cuarenta mil hombres de a caballo; hirió también a Sobac, general del ejército, que murió allí mismo.
19 When all the kings who were subject to Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became subject to them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the Ammonites anymore.
Y todos los reyes vasallos de Hadadéser, viéndose vencidos por Israel, hicieron paces con Israel y se sometieron; y los sirios no se atrevieron más a ayudar a los hijos de Ammón.
