2 Samuel 10
1 Some time later, the king of the Ammonites died and was succeeded by his son Hanun.
কালক্রমে, অম্মোনীয়দের রাজা মারা গেলেন, ও তাঁর ছেলে হানূন রাজারূপে তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন।
2 And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to console Hanun concerning his father. But when they arrived in the land of the Ammonites,
দাউদ ভেবেছিলেন, “আমি নাহশের ছেলে হানূনের প্রতি সহানুভূতি দেখাব, ঠিক যেভাবে তাঁর বাবা আমার প্রতি দয়া দেখিয়েছিলেন।” অতএব দাউদ হানূনের বাবার প্রতি তাঁর সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করার জন্য একদল লোককে তাঁর প্রতিনিধি করে পাঠালেন। দাউদের লোকজন যখন অম্মোনীয়দের দেশে এসেছিল,
3 the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Has not David instead sent his servants to explore the city, spy it out, and overthrow it?”
অম্মোনীয় সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতিরা তাদের মনিব হানূনকে বলল, “আপনি কি মনে করছেন যে দাউদ লোকজন পাঠিয়ে আপনার বাবাকে সম্মান জানাচ্ছেন? দাউদ কি নগরের খোঁজখবর নিয়ে চরবৃত্তি করে এটি ধ্বংস করে দেওয়ার জন্যই আপনার কাছে তাদের পাঠাননি?”
4 So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the hips, and sent them away.
তাই হানূন দাউদের পাঠানো লোকজনকে ধরে, তাদের দাড়ির অর্ধেকটা করে কেটে দিয়ে, তাদের কাপড়চোপড়ও নিতম্বদেশ পর্যন্ত ছিঁড়ে দিয়ে তাদের ফেরত পাঠালেন।
5 When this was reported to David, he sent messengers to meet the men, since they had been thoroughly humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
দাউদকে যখন একথা বলা হল, তিনি তখন সেই লোকদের সাথে দেখা করার জন্য কয়েকজন দূত পাঠালেন, কারণ তারা অত্যন্ত লজ্জিত হয়েছিল। রাজামশাই বললেন, “যতদিন না তোমাদের চুল-দাড়ি না বড়ো হচ্ছে, ততদিন তোমরা যিরীহোতেই থাকো, পরে তোমরা এখানে ফিরে এসো।”
6 When the Ammonites realized that they had become a stench to David, they hired twenty thousand Aramean foot soldiers from Beth-rehob and Zoba, as well as a thousand men from the king of Maacah and twelve thousand men from Tob.
অম্মোনীয়রা যখন বুঝেছিল যে তারা দাউদের দৃষ্টিতে আপত্তিকর হয়ে গিয়েছে, তখন তারা বৈৎ-রহোব ও সোবা থেকে 20,000 অরামীয় পদাতিক সৈন্য, তথা মাখার রাজার কাছ থেকে এক হাজার জন, ও টোব থেকে 12 হাজার জন লোক ভাড়া করল।
7 On hearing this, David sent Joab and the entire army of mighty men.
একথা শুনতে পেয়ে, দাউদ লড়াকু লোকবিশিষ্ট সমস্ত সৈন্যদল সমেত যোয়াবকে সেখানে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
8 The Ammonites marched out and arrayed themselves for battle at the entrance of the city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the open country.
অম্মোনীয়রা বেরিয়ে এসে তাদের নগরের প্রবেশদ্বারে সৈন্যদল সাজিয়ে রেখেছিল, আবার সোবা ও রহোবের অরামীয়রা এবং টোব ও মাখার লোকজনও খোলা মাঠে আলাদা করে গিয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিল।
9 When Joab saw the battle lines before him and behind him, he selected some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
যোয়াব দেখেছিলেন যে তাঁর আগে পিছে সৈন্যদল সাজিয়ে রাখা হয়েছে; তাই তিনি ইস্রায়েলের সেরা কয়েকজন সৈন্য বেছে নিয়ে অরামীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে তাদের মোতায়েন করলেন।
10 And he placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother Abishai, who arrayed them against the Ammonites.
বাকি সৈন্যদের তিনি তাঁর ভাই অবীশয়ের কর্তৃত্বাধীন করে রেখেছিলেন, এবং তারা অম্মোনীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে মোতায়েন হল।
11 “If the Arameans are too strong for me,” said Joab, “then you will come to my rescue. And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to your rescue.
যোয়াব বললেন, “অরামীয়রা যদি আমার চেয়ে বেশি শক্তিশালী হয়ে যায়, তবে তোমরা আমাকে রক্ষা করার জন্য এগিয়ে আসবে; কিন্তু অম্মোনীয়রা যদি তোমাদের চেয়ে বেশি শক্তিশালী হয়ে যায়, তবে আমি তোমাদের রক্ষা করার জন্য এগিয়ে আসব।
12 Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
শক্তিশালী হও, এসো—আমরা আমাদের জাতির ও আমাদের ঈশ্বরের নগরগুলির জন্য বীরের মতো লড়াই করি। সদাপ্রভুই তাঁর দৃষ্টিতে যা ভালো বোধ হয়, তাই করবেন।”
13 So Joab and his troops advanced to fight the Arameans, who fled before him.
পরে যোয়াব ও তাঁর সৈন্যদল অরামীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করার জন্য এগিয়ে গেলেন, ও তারা তাঁর সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেল।
14 When the Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they too fled before Abishai, and they entered the city. So Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.
অম্মোনীয়রা যখন বুঝতে পেরেছিল যে অরামীয়রা পালিয়ে যাচ্ছে, তখন তারাও অবীশয়ের সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেল ও নগরের ভিতরে ঢুকে পড়ল। তখন যোয়াব অম্মোনীয়দের ছেড়ে জেরুশালেমে ফিরে এলেন।
15 When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they regrouped.
অরামীয়রা যখন দেখেছিল যে তারা ইস্রায়েলীদের সামনে ছত্রভঙ্গ হয়েছে, তখন তারা আবার দল বেঁধেছিল।
16 Hadadezer sent messengers to bring more Arameans from beyond the Euphrates, and they came to Helam with Shobach the commander of Hadadezer’s army leading them.
হদদেষর ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর ওপার থেকে অরামীয়দের আনিয়েছিলেন; তারা হেলমে গেল, ও হদদেষরের সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি শোবক তাদের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন।
17 When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, and went to Helam. Then the Arameans arrayed themselves against David and fought against him.
দাউদকে যখন একথা বলা হল, তিনি সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলকে একত্রিত করলেন, জর্ডন নদী পার হলেন ও হেলমে গেলেন। অরামীয়রা দাউদের সামনে তাদের সৈন্যদল সাজিয়ে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করল।
18 But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
কিন্তু তারা ইস্রায়েলের সামনে থেকে পালিয়ে গেল, ও দাউদ তাদের মধ্যে 700 সারথি এবং 40,000 পদাতিক সৈন্যকে হত্যা করলেন। এছাড়াও তিনি তাদের সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি শোবককেও আঘাত করলেন, ও তিনি সেখানে মারা গেলেন।
19 When all the kings who were subject to Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became subject to them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the Ammonites anymore.
যখন হদদেষরের দাসানুদাস সব রাজা দেখেছিলেন যে ইস্রায়েলের কাছে তারা ছত্রভঙ্গ হয়েছেন, তখন তারা ইস্রায়েলীদের সঙ্গে শান্তিচুক্তি করলেন ও তাদের বশীভূত হলেন। তাই অরামীয়রা আর কখনও অম্মোনীয়দের সাহায্য করার সাহস পায়নি।
