2 Kings 14
1 In the second year of the reign of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz over Israel, Amaziah son of Joash became king of Judah.
Dans la deuxième année du règne de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d’Israël, Amacia, fils de Joas, devint roi de Juda.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan; she was from Jerusalem.
Agé de vingt-cinq ans lors de son avènement, il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Yehoaddân, de Jérusalem.
3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had done. He did everything as his father Joash had done.
Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Eternel, non à la vérité autant que son aïeul David, mais il suivit en tout l’exemple de Joas, son père.
4 Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
Néanmoins, les hauts-lieux ne disparurent pas: le peuple continua d’offrir des sacrifices et de l’encens sur les hauts-lieux.
5 As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, Amaziah executed the servants who had murdered his father the king.
Lorsque la royauté se trouva consolidée entre ses mains, il frappa ses serviteurs qui avaient assassiné le roi son père.
6 Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
Mais il ne fit point périr les enfants des meurtriers, suivant en cela ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la Loi de Moïse, promulguée par l’Eternel: "Les parents ne seront pas mis à mort à cause des enfants, ni les enfants à cause des parents; mais chacun subira la mort pour son seul méfait."
7 Amaziah struck down 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He took Sela in battle and called it Joktheel, which is its name to this very day.
Le même Amacia tua à Edom, dans la vallée du Sel, dix mille hommes et conquit Séla par la guerre. Il donna à cette ville le nom de Yokteël, qu’elle porte encore aujourd’hui.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to the king of Israel Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
Ensuite Amacia envoya des messagers à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, lui faisant dire: "Allons nous mesurer ensemble!"
9 But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah: “A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle.
Joas, roi d’Israël, adressa à son tour ce message à Amacia, roi de Juda: "Le buisson sur le Liban fit dire au cèdre dix Liban: Accorde ta fille comme épouse à mon fils. Mais une bête sauvage du Liban vint à passer et écrasa le buisson.
10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has become proud. Glory in that and stay at home. Why should you stir up trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
A la vérité, tu as battu Edom et ton cœur s’est gonflé. Garde ton honneur et reste à la maison. Pourquoi courir au-devant d’un désastre et t’exposer à tomber, toi et Juda avec toi?"
11 But Amaziah would not listen, and Jehoash king of Israel advanced. He and King Amaziah of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh in Judah.
Mais Amacia ne voulut rien entendre. Alors Joas, roi d’Israël, monta, et ils en vinrent aux mains, lui et Amacia, roi de Juda, à Beth-Chémech, sur le territoire de Juda.
12 And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his home.
Juda essuya une défaite devant Israël, et ils s’enfuirent tous dans leurs tentes.
13 There at Beth-shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section of four hundred cubits.
Quant à Amacia, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d’Achazia, Joas, roi d’Israël, le fit prisonnier à Beth-Chémech; ensuite, il se rendit à Jérusalem, dont il abattit le rempart, depuis la porte d’Ephraïm jusqu’à la porte de l’Angle, sur une longueur de quatre cents coudées.
14 He took all the gold and silver and all the articles found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the royal palace, as well as some hostages. Then he returned to Samaria.
Il enleva tout l’or et l’argent, et tous les vases qui se trouvaient dans la maison de Dieu et dans les trésors du palais royal ainsi que les otages, et s’en retourna à Samarie.
15 As for the rest of the acts of Jehoash, along with his accomplishments, his might, and how he waged war against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Quant au surplus des faits accomplis par Joas, ses exploits et ses luttes avec Amacia, roi de Juda, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
16 And Jehoash rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. And his son Jeroboam reigned in his place.
Joas s’endormit avec ses aïeux et fut enterré à Samarie à côté des rois d’Israël. Jéroboam, son fils, lui succéda dans la royauté.
17 Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel.
Après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d’Israël, Amacia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, régna encore quinze ans.
18 As for the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
Le reste des actes d’Amacia se trouve consigné dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
19 And conspirators plotted against Amaziah in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. But men were sent after him to Lachish, and they killed him there.
On forma un complot contre lui à Jérusalem; il se réfugia à Lakhich. On envoya des gens à sa poursuite dans cette ville, et ils l’y mirent à mort.
20 They carried him back on horses and buried him in Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.

21 Then all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
Tout le peuple de Juda prit Azaria, alors âgé de seize ans, et le proclama roi à la place de son père Amacia.
22 Azariah was the one who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah after King Amaziah rested with his fathers.
Il rebâtit Elat et la restitua à Juda, après que le roi se fut endormi avec ses aïeux.
23 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Amaziah son of Joash over Judah, Jeroboam son of Jehoash became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria forty-one years.
La quinzième année d’Amacia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam, fils de Joas, devint roi d’Israël à Samarie, où il régna quarante et un ans.
24 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not turn away from all the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
Il fit le mal aux yeux de l’Eternel, et n’évita aucun des pêchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qui avait égaré Israël.
25 This Jeroboam restored the boundary of Israel from Lebo-hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word that the LORD, the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath-hepher.
Il rétablit la frontière d’Israël depuis les environs de Hamat jusqu’à la mer de la Plaine, accomplissant la parole de l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, énoncée par l’organe de son serviteur Jonas, fils d’Amittaï, le prophète originaire de Gath-Hahêfer.
26 For the LORD saw that the affliction of the Israelites, both slave and free, was very bitter. There was no one to help Israel,
L’Eternel avait, en effet, vu la misère extrêmement cruelle d’Israël, son manque de ressources, grandes ou petites, sans personne pour lui prêter assistance.
27 and since the LORD had said that He would not blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
Ne voulant pas effacer le nom d’Israël de dessous les cieux, l’Eternel leur porta secours par la main de Jéroboam, fils de Joas.
28 As for the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, along with all his accomplishments and might, and how he waged war and recovered both Damascus and Hamath for Israel from Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, tous les faits accomplis par lui, les victoires qu’il remporta et qui lui permirent de restituer à Israël Damas et Hamat, jadis possessions de Juda, tout cela est consigné dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
29 And Jeroboam rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. And his son Zechariah reigned in his place.
Jéroboam s’endormit avec ses aïeux, les rois d’Israël, et son fils Zacharie lui succéda sur le trône.
