2 Chronicles 26
1 All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
Tout le peuple de Juda prit Ozias, qui était âgé de seize ans; et on l’établit roi à la place de son père, Amasias.
2 Uzziah was the one who rebuilt Eloth and restored it to Judah after King Amaziah rested with his fathers.
Ozias rebâtit Elath et la ramena à Juda, après que le roi fut couché avec ses pères.
3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jecoliah; she was from Jerusalem.
Ozias avait seize ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère se nommait Jéchélia, de Jérusalem.
4 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.
Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, selon tout ce qu’avait fait Amasias, son père.
5 He sought God throughout the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. And as long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.
Il fut disposé à honorer Dieu pendant la vie de Zacharie, qui lui apprenait à craindre Dieu; et dans le temps qu’il honorait Yahweh, Dieu le fit prospérer.
6 Uzziah went out to wage war against the Philistines, and he tore down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod. Then he built cities near Ashdod and among the Philistines.
Il partit en guerre contre les Philistins; il renversa le mur de Geth, le mur de Jabnia et le mur d’Azot, et construisit des villes dans le territoire d’Azot et parmi les Philistins.
7 God helped him against the Philistines, against the Arabs living in Gur-baal, and against the Meunites.
Dieu l’aida contre les Philistins, contre les Arabes qui habitaient à Gur-Baal, et contre les Maonites.
8 The Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, for he had become exceedingly powerful.
Les Ammonites faisaient des présents à Ozias, et sa renommée parvint jusqu’à l’entrée de l’Égypte, car il devint très puissant.
9 Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, the Valley Gate, and the angle in the wall, and he fortified them.
Ozias bâtit des tours à Jérusalem sur la porte de l’angle, sur la porte de la vallée et sur l’angle, et il les fortifia.
10 Since he had much livestock in the foothills and in the plain, he built towers in the desert and dug many cisterns. And since he was a lover of the soil, he had farmers and vinedressers in the hill country and in the fertile fields.
Il bâtit des tours dans le désert, et il creusa beaucoup de citernes, parce qu’il avait là de nombreux troupeaux, ainsi que dans la Séphéla et sur les plateaux, et des laboureurs et des vignerons dans les montagnes et au Carmel, car il aimait l’agriculture.
11 Uzziah had an army ready for battle that went out to war by assigned divisions, as recorded by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officers.
Ozias avait une armée de guerriers qui allaient au combat par troupes, comptées d’après leur dénombrement par le secrétaire Jéhiel et le commissaire Maasias, sous les ordres de Hananias, l’un des chefs du roi.
12 The total number of family leaders of the mighty men of valor was 2,600.
Le nombre total des chefs de maisons, vaillants guerriers, était de deux mille six cents.
13 Under their authority was an army of 307,500 trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.
Ils commandaient à une armée de trois cent sept mille cinq cents hommes, qui faisaient la guerre avec une grande puissance, pour soutenir le roi contre l’ennemi.
14 Uzziah supplied the entire army with shields, spears, helmets, armor, bows, and slingstones.
Ozias leur procura, à toute cette armée, des boucliers, des lances, des casques, des cuirasses, des arcs et des frondes pour lancer des pierres.
15 And in Jerusalem he made skillfully designed devices to shoot arrows and catapult large stones from the towers and corners. So his fame spread far and wide, for he was helped tremendously so that he became powerful.
Il fit construire à Jérusalem des machines inventées par un ingénieur, et destinées à être placées sur les tours et sur les angles des murs, pour lancer des flèches et de grosses pierres. Sa renommée s’étendait jusqu’au loin, car il fut merveilleusement aidé, jusque là qu’il devint puissant.
16 But when Uzziah grew powerful, his arrogance led to his own destruction. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
Mais lorsqu’il fut devenu puissant, son cœur s’éleva jusqu’à la ruine. Péchant contre Yahweh, son Dieu, il entra dans le temple de Yahweh pour brûler des parfums sur l’autel des parfums.
17 Then Azariah the priest, along with eighty brave priests of the LORD, went in after him.
Le prêtre Azarias entra après lui, avec quatre-vingts prêtres de Yahweh, hommes courageux;
18 They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
ils s’opposèrent au roi Ozias et lui dirent: « Ce n’est pas à toi, Ozias, d’offrir des parfums à Yahweh, mais aux prêtres, fils d’Aaron, qui ont été consacrés pour brûler des parfums. Sors du sanctuaire, car tu as péché, et cela ne tournera pas à ton honneur devant Yahweh Dieu. »
19 Uzziah, with a censer in his hand to offer incense, was enraged. But while he raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of incense, leprosy broke out on his forehead.
Ozias, qui tenait un encensoir à la main pour offrir des parfums, fut saisi de colère et, comme il s’irritait contre les prêtres, la lèpre se leva sur son front, en présence des prêtres, dans la maison de Yahweh, devant l’autel des parfums.
20 When Azariah the chief priest and all the priests turned to him and saw his leprous forehead, they rushed him out. Indeed, he himself hurried to get out, because the LORD had afflicted him.
Le grand prêtre Azarias et tous les prêtres s’étant tournés vers lui, voici qu’il avait la lèpre au front. Ils le mirent précipitamment dehors, et lui-même se hâta de sortir, parce que Yahweh l’avait frappé.
21 So King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He lived in isolation, leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to govern the people of the land.
Le roi Ozias fut lépreux jusqu’au jour de sa mort, et il demeura dans une maison écartée, comme lépreux, car il fut exclu de la maison de Yahweh. Joatham, son fils, était à la tête de la maison du roi, jugeant le peuple du pays.
22 As for the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from beginning to end, they are recorded by the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.
Le reste des actes d’Ozias, les premiers et les derniers, Isaïe, fils d’Amos, le prophète les a écrits.
23 And Uzziah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in a field of burial that belonged to the kings; for the people said, “He was a leper.” And his son Jotham reigned in his place.
Ozias se coucha avec ses pères dans le champ de la sépulture des rois, car on disait: « Il est lépreux. » Joatham, son fils, régna à sa place.
