2 Chronicles 21
1 And Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son Jehoram reigned in his place.
Giô-sa-phát qua đời, được an táng với tổ phụ mình trong Thành Đa-vít. Con ông là Giô-ram lên ngôi kế vị cha.
2 Jehoram’s brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; these were all sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
Anh em của Giô-ram—con trai của Giô-sa-phát—là A-xa-ria, Giê-hi-ên, Xa-cha-ri, A-xa-ra, Mi-ca-ên, và Sê-pha-tia; tất cả họ là con trai của Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa.
3 Their father had given them many gifts of silver and gold and precious things, as well as the fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.
Vua cha đã cho họ nhiều tặng phẩm bằng bạc, vàng, bảo vật, với các thành kiên cố trong nước Giu-đa, nhưng giao vương quyền cho Giô-ram vì là trưởng nam.
4 When Jehoram had established himself over his father’s kingdom, he strengthened himself by putting to the sword all his brothers along with some of the princes of Israel.
Vì muốn củng cố quyền hành, Giô-ram sát hại tất cả em ruột mình cùng một số lãnh đạo Ít-ra-ên.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years.
Giô-ram được ba mươi hai tuổi khi lên ngôi và trị vì tám năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
6 And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
Vua đi theo đường lối các vua Ít-ra-ên và gian ác như Vua A-háp, vì vua cưới con gái A-háp làm vợ. Vậy, Giô-ram làm điều ác trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
7 Yet the LORD was unwilling to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant He had made with David, and since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.
Tuy nhiên, Chúa Hằng Hữu không muốn tiêu diệt gia tộc Đa-vít, vì giao ước Ngài đã lập với Đa-vít, và hứa rằng con cháu của ông sẽ tiếp tục cai trị và chiếu sáng như ngọn đèn mãi mãi.
8 In the days of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against the hand of Judah and appointed their own king.
Dưới đời trị vì của Giô-ram, người Ê-đôm nổi dậy chống Giu-đa và lập vua cho riêng mình.
9 So Jehoram crossed into Edom with his officers and all his chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night.
Giô-ram cùng toàn đội quân và các đoàn chiến xa, ban đêm thức dậy kéo quân tấn công quân đội Ê-đôm đang dùng chiến xa bao vây quân Giu-đa.
10 So to this day Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah. Likewise, Libnah rebelled against his rule at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
Dù vậy, Ê-đôm vẫn thoát ách thống trị của Giu-đa cho đến ngày nay. Cùng lúc đó, Líp-na cũng phản nghịch với Giô-ram. Tất cả điều này xảy ra vì vua đã lìa bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, là Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình.
11 Jehoram had also built high places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves and had led Judah astray.
Giô-ram cũng lập các miếu thờ tà thần trên các đỉnh đồi núi xứ Giu-đa, gây cho dân chúng Giê-ru-sa-lem và Giu-đa phạm tội thờ tà thần và đi vào con đường sai lạc.
12 Then a letter came to Jehoram from Elijah the prophet, which stated: “This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah,
Tiên tri Ê-li gửi thông điệp cho Giô-ram như sau: “Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Đa-vít tổ phụ của vua, đã phán: Ngươi không đi theo đường lối của Giô-sa-phát, cha ngươi, cũng chẳng đi theo đường lối của ông nội ngươi là A-sa, vua Giu-đa,
13 but you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab prostituted itself. You have also killed your brothers, your father’s family, who were better than you.
nhưng lại đi theo đường lối của vua Ít-ra-ên, xúi giục người Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem phạm tội thờ hình tượng như Vua A-háp đã làm trong Ít-ra-ên. Hơn nữa, ngươi tàn sát các em ruột ngươi là những người tốt hơn ngươi.
14 So behold, the LORD is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a serious blow.
Này, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ đổ tai họa lớn trên dân tộc ngươi, trên các con ngươi, trên các vợ ngươi, và trên tài sản ngươi.
15 And day after day you yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a disease of your bowels, until it causes your bowels to come out.’”
Còn chính ngươi sẽ mắc bạo bệnh trong gan ruột, ngày càng trầm trọng cho đến khi gan ruột ngươi đứt rời ra.”
16 Then the LORD stirred against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and Arabs who lived near the Cushites.
Chúa Hằng Hữu lại thúc giục người Phi-li-tin và người A-rập, sống ở gần nước Ê-thi-ô-pi, kéo quân tấn công Giô-ram.
17 So they went to war against Judah, invaded it, and carried off all the possessions found in the king’s palace, along with his sons and wives; not a son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest.
Họ chiếm đóng Giu-đa, cướp đoạt các tài sản trong cung điện, bắt các con trai và các vợ của vua. Chỉ còn lại người con út là A-cha-xia.
18 After all this, the LORD afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels.
Sau hết, Chúa Hằng Hữu hành hạ Giô-ram, phạt vua bị bạo bệnh trong ruột.
19 This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
Ngày tháng trôi qua, bệnh càng trầm trọng; đến năm thứ nhì, ruột gan của Giô-ram đứt rời ra và vua qua đời trong một cơn đau khủng khiếp. Dân chúng không xông thuốc thơm để ướp xác vua như họ đã làm cho tổ phụ của vua.
20 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He died, to no one’s regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Giô-ram được ba mươi hai tuổi khi lên ngôi và trị vì tám năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Khi vua qua đời, chẳng một người thương tiếc. Người ta an táng vua trong Thành Đa-vít, chứ không đặt trong khu lăng mộ các vua.
