2 Chronicles 10
1 Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king.
Roboam fue a Siquem, porque todo Israel había acudido a Siquem para hacerle rey.
2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.
Cuando Jeroboam hijo de Nabat se enteró de ello (pues estaba en Egipto, donde había huido de la presencia del rey Salomón), Jeroboam volvió de Egipto.
3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said,
Enviaron y lo llamaron; y vino Jeroboam y todo Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:
4 “Your father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should lighten the burden of your father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
“Tu padre hizo gravoso nuestro yugo. Ahora, pues, aligera el penoso servicio de tu padre y el pesado yugo que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos”.
5 Rehoboam answered, “Come back to me in three days.” So the people departed.
Les dijo: “Volved a mí después de tres días”. Así que la gente se fue.
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you advise me to respond to these people?” he asked.
El rey Roboam consultó a los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón, su padre, cuando aún vivía, diciendo: “¿Qué consejo me dais sobre cómo responder a esta gente?”
7 They replied, “If you will be kind to these people and please them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”
Le hablaron diciendo: “Si eres amable con esta gente, la complaces y les hablas con buenas palabras, entonces serán tus siervos para siempre.”
8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders; instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up with him and served him.
Pero abandonó el consejo de los ancianos que le habían dado, y tomó consejo con los jóvenes que habían crecido con él, que estaban delante de él.
9 He asked them, “What message do you advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
Les dijo: “¿Qué consejo les dais para que respondamos a esta gente, que me ha hablado diciendo: “Aligera el yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros”?”
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you should make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!
Los jóvenes que se habían criado con él le hablaron diciendo: “Así dirás al pueblo que te habló diciendo: “Tu padre hizo pesado nuestro yugo, pero aligéralo sobre nosotros”; así les dirás: “Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que la cintura de mi padre”.
11 Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.’”
Ahora bien, mientras mi padre os cargó con un yugo pesado, yo añadiré a vuestro yugo. Mi padre os castigó con látigos, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones’”.
12 After three days, Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”
Entonces Jeroboam y todo el pueblo vinieron a Roboam al tercer día, tal como el rey lo había pedido, diciendo: “Volved a mí al tercer día”.
13 And the king answered them harshly. King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders
El rey les respondió con aspereza; y el rey Roboam abandonó el consejo de los ancianos,
14 and spoke to them as the young men had advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.”
y les habló según el consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: “Mi padre hizo pesado vuestro yugo, pero yo lo aumentaré. Mi padre os castigó con látigos, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones”.
15 So the king did not listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might fulfill the word that He had spoken through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.
Así que el rey no escuchó al pueblo, pues esto fue provocado por Dios, para que Yahvé confirmara su palabra, que habló por medio de Ahías el silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.
16 When all Israel saw that the king had refused to listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
Cuando todo Israel vio que el rey no los escuchaba, el pueblo respondió al rey diciendo: “¿Qué parte tenemos en David? ¡No tenemos herencia en el hijo de Isaí! ¡Cada uno a sus tiendas, Israel! Ahora ocúpate de tu propia casa, David”. Y todo Israel se fue a sus tiendas.
17 but Rehoboam still reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of Judah.
Pero en cuanto a los hijos de Israel que vivían en las ciudades de Judá, Roboam reinó sobre ellos.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King Rehoboam mounted his chariot in haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
Entonces el rey Roboam envió a Hadoram, que estaba a cargo de los hombres sometidos a trabajos forzados, y los hijos de Israel lo mataron a pedradas. El rey Roboam se apresuró a subir a su carro, para huir a Jerusalén.
19 So to this day Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David.
Así se rebeló Israel contra la casa de David hasta el día de hoy.
