1 Thessalonians 5
1 Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.
he bhrātaraḥ, kālān samayāṁścādhi yuṣmān prati mama likhanaṁ niṣprayojanaṁ,
2 For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
yato rātrau yādṛk taskarastādṛk prabho rdinam upasthāsyatīti yūyaṁ svayameva samyag jānītha|
3 While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
śānti rnirvvinghatvañca vidyata iti yadā mānavā vadiṣyanti tadā prasavavedanā yadvad garbbhinīm upatiṣṭhati tadvad akasmād vināśastān upasthāsyati tairuddhāro na lapsyate|
4 But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.
kintu he bhrātaraḥ, yūyam andhakāreṇāvṛtā na bhavatha tasmāt taddinaṁ taskara iva yuṣmān na prāpsyati|
5 For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
sarvve yūyaṁ dīpteḥ santānā divāyāśca santānā bhavatha vayaṁ niśāvaṁśāstimiravaṁśā vā na bhavāmaḥ|
6 So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.
ato 'pare yathā nidrāgatāḥ santi tadvad asmābhi rna bhavitavyaṁ kintu jāgaritavyaṁ sacetanaiśca bhavitavyaṁ|
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
ye nidrānti te niśāyāmeva nidrānti te ca mattā bhavanti te rajanyāmeva mattā bhavanti|
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.
kintu vayaṁ divasasya vaṁśā bhavāmaḥ; ato 'smābhi rvakṣasi pratyayapremarūpaṁ kavacaṁ śirasi ca paritrāṇāśārūpaṁ śirastraṁ paridhāya sacetanai rbhavitavyaṁ|
9 For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
yata īśvaro'smān krodhe na niyujyāsmākaṁ prabhunā yīśukhrīṣṭena paritrāṇasyādhikāre niyuktavān,
10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.
jāgrato nidrāgatā vā vayaṁ yat tena prabhunā saha jīvāmastadarthaṁ so'smākaṁ kṛte prāṇān tyaktavān|
11 Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.
ataeva yūyaṁ yadvat kurutha tadvat parasparaṁ sāntvayata susthirīkurudhvañca|
12 But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction.
he bhrātaraḥ, yuṣmākaṁ madhye ye janāḥ pariśramaṁ kurvvanti prabho rnāmnā yuṣmān adhitiṣṭhantyupadiśanti ca tān yūyaṁ sammanyadhvaṁ|
13 In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
svakarmmahetunā ca premnā tān atīvādṛyadhvamiti mama prārthanā, yūyaṁ parasparaṁ nirvvirodhā bhavata|
14 And we urge you, brothers, to admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.
he bhrātaraḥ, yuṣmān vinayāmahe yūyam avihitācāriṇo lokān bhartsayadhvaṁ, kṣudramanasaḥ sāntvayata, durbbalān upakuruta, sarvvān prati sahiṣṇavo bhavata ca|
15 Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
aparaṁ kamapi pratyaniṣṭasya phalam aniṣṭaṁ kenāpi yanna kriyeta tadarthaṁ sāvadhānā bhavata, kintu parasparaṁ sarvvān mānavāṁśca prati nityaṁ hitācāriṇo bhavata|
16 Rejoice at all times.
sarvvadānandata|
17 Pray without ceasing.
nirantaraṁ prārthanāṁ kurudhvaṁ|
18 Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
sarvvaviṣaye kṛtajñatāṁ svīkurudhvaṁ yata etadeva khrīṣṭayīśunā yuṣmān prati prakāśitam īśvarābhimataṁ|
19 Do not extinguish the Spirit.
pavitram ātmānaṁ na nirvvāpayata|
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt,
īśvarīyādeśaṁ nāvajānīta|
21 but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.
sarvvāṇi parīkṣya yad bhadraṁ tadeva dhārayata|
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
yat kimapi pāparūpaṁ bhavati tasmād dūraṁ tiṣṭhata|
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
śāntidāyaka īśvaraḥ svayaṁ yuṣmān sampūrṇatvena pavitrān karotu, aparam asmatprabho ryīśukhrīṣṭasyāgamanaṁ yāvad yuṣmākam ātmānaḥ prāṇāḥ śarīrāṇi ca nikhilāni nirddoṣatvena rakṣyantāṁ|
24 The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.
yo yuṣmān āhvayati sa viśvasanīyo'taḥ sa tat sādhayiṣyati|
25 Brothers, pray for us as well.
he bhrātaraḥ, asmākaṁ kṛte prārthanāṁ kurudhvaṁ|
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
pavitracumbanena sarvvān bhrātṛn prati satkurudhvaṁ|
27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
patramidaṁ sarvveṣāṁ pavitrāṇāṁ bhrātṛṇāṁ śrutigocare yuṣmābhiḥ paṭhyatāmiti prabho rnāmnā yuṣmān śapayāmi|
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
asmākaṁ prabho ryīśukhrīṣṭasyānugrate yuṣmāsu bhūyāt| āmen|
