1 Samuel 8

1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.

൧ശമൂവേൽ വൃദ്ധനായപ്പോൾ തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ യിസ്രായേലിന് ന്യായാധിപന്മാരാക്കി.

2 The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second was Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.

൨അവന്റെ ആദ്യജാതനു യോവേൽ എന്നും രണ്ടാമത്തെ മകന് അബീയാവ് എന്നും പേർ. അവർ ബേർ-ശേബയിൽ ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

3 But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside toward dishonest gain, accepting bribes and perverting justice.

൩ശമുവേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ അവനെപ്പോലെ അല്ലായിരുന്നു. അവർ ദുരാഗ്രഹികളും, കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങുന്നവരും, അനീതി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരും ആയിരുന്നു.

4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.

൪അതുകൊണ്ട് യിസ്രായേൽമൂപ്പന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി, രാമയിൽ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്ന്, അവനോട്:

5 “Look,” they said, “you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us like all the other nations.”

൫“നീ വൃദ്ധനായിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ നിന്റെ വഴിയിൽ നടക്കുന്നില്ല; അതിനാൽ എല്ലാ ജാതികൾക്കും ഉള്ളതുപോലെ, ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ നിയമിച്ചുതരേണം”. എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6 But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.

൬ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് രാജാവിനെ തരേണമെന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം ശമൂവേലിന് ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല. ശമൂവേൽ യഹോവയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു.

7 And the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.

൭യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോട് ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: “ജനം നിന്നോട് പറയുന്ന സകലത്തിലും അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേൾക്കുക, അവർ നിന്നെയല്ല, ഞാൻ അവരെ ഭരിക്കാതിരിക്കുവാൻ, എന്നെയാണ് ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

8 Just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.

൮ഞാൻ അവരെ മിസ്രയീമിൽനിന്ന് വിടുവിച്ച ദിവസംമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ അവർ എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും, അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ സേവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവർ അതുപോലെ തന്നെ നിന്നോടും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

9 Now listen to them, but you must solemnly warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”

൯അതുകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേൾക്കണം; എന്നാൽ അവരെ ഭരിക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനരീതി അവരോടു കൃത്യമായി വിവരിക്കേണം.

10 So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.

൧൦അങ്ങനെ രാജാവിനായി അപേക്ഷിച്ച ജനത്തോട് ശമൂവേൽ യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ എല്ലാം അറിയിച്ചു:

11 He said, “This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them to his own chariots and horses, to run in front of his chariots.

൧൧“നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനരീതി ഇതായിരിക്കും: അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെ അവന് തേരാളികളും കുതിരച്ചേവകരും ആക്കും; അവന്റെ രഥങ്ങൾക്കു മുമ്പെ അവർ ഓടേണ്ടി വരും.

12 He will appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of fifties, and others to plow his ground, to reap his harvest, to make his weapons of war, and to equip his chariots.

൧൨അവൻ അവരെ ആയിരം പേർക്കും അമ്പത് പേർക്കും മേലധികാരികളാക്കും; തന്റെ നിലം കൃഷി ചെയ്യുവാനും തന്റെ വിള കൊയ്യുവാനും തന്റെ യുദ്ധ ആയുധങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കുവാനും അവരെ നിയമിക്കും.

13 And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.

൧൩അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ, വാസനതൈലം വിൽക്കുന്നവരും, പാചകക്കാരികളും പലഹാരം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നവരും ആയി നിയമിക്കും.

14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his servants.

൧൪അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല നിലങ്ങളും, മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും, ഒലിവുതോട്ടങ്ങളും തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർക്ക് കൊടുക്കും.

15 He will take a tenth of your grain and grape harvest and give it to his officials and servants.

൧൫അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ധാന്യങ്ങളിലും മുന്തിരികളിലും ദശാംശം എടുത്ത് തന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്കും ഭൃത്യന്മാർക്കും കൊടുക്കും.

16 And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and donkeys and put them to his own use.

൧൬അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദാസന്മാരെയും ദാസിമാരെയും, സുന്ദരന്മാ‍രായ യുവാക്കളെയും കഴുതകളെയും പിടിച്ച് തനിക്ക് വേല ചെയ്യുന്നവർ ആക്കും.

17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.

൧൭അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ആടുകളിൽ പത്തിലൊന്ന് എടുക്കും; നിങ്ങൾ അവന് ദാസന്മാരായ്തീരും.

18 When that day comes, you will beg for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you on that day.”

൧൮നിങ്ങൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവ് കാരണം നിങ്ങൾ അന്ന് നിലവിളിക്കും; എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അന്ന് ഉത്തരമരുളുകയില്ല”.

19 Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.

൧൯എന്നാൽ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുവാൻ ജനത്തിന് മനസ്സില്ലായിരുന്നു: “അല്ല, ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു രാജാവ് വേണം,

20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to judge us, to go out before us, and to fight our battles.”

൨൦എല്ലാ ജാതികളെയും പോലെ ഞങ്ങളും ആകേണ്ടതിന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവ് ഞങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുകയും ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നായകനായി പുറപ്പെടുകയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളെ നയിക്കുകയും വേണം” എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.

21 Samuel listened to all the words of the people and repeated them in the hearing of the LORD.

൨൧ശമൂവേൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകേട്ട് യഹോവയോട് അറിയിച്ചു.

22 “Listen to their voice,” the LORD said to Samuel. “Appoint a king for them.” Then Samuel told the men of Israel, “Everyone must go back to his city.”

൨൨യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോട്: “അവരുടെ വാക്ക് കേട്ട് അവർക്ക് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ കൊടുക്കുക” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ശമൂവേൽ യിസ്രായേല്യരോട്: “നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോരുത്തരും അവരവരുടെ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്ക് പൊയ്ക്കൊൾക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
